Water Island is a noncommercialized 500 acre island just off the coast of St thomas. It is a great place to enjoy private beaches and avoid cruise ship crowds. There are no hotels or condos. Most residents drive golf carts. A cart is provided with Palm Cottage. Palm Cottage is a short ride away from Honeymoon and Sprat Beaches. There are great views along the way.
Land at the only airport on St Thomas. (STT) Take a short taxi ride to Crown Bay Marina (7min). The Water Island ferry docks at Crown Bay Marina where there is a grocery store, internet cafe, and marina store. The ferry to Water Island is about 5 minutes. You are on the beach in no time!
Palm Cottage is a cozy romantic place for a couple. Or a great place for a family vacation. There is one large bedroom with sitting area. The TV is in the sitting area. On the large screened deck are two futon couches for sitting and that covert to double beds for children or a second couple. The screened deck surrounds the house for lots of living space and dining. The kitchen is a galley kitchen with everything you need including UV water filter and disposal. The bathroom is large with a shower, towels, hairdryer and clothes hanging space. The views of the blue Caribbean and St Thomas are spectacular from the cottages deck.
The Cottage is in the Sprat Bay private residential area (only approx 19 houses on more than 100 acres) giving our guests access to private beaches where you often find yourselves all alone. Sprat also offers tennis courts, and a covered shaded sitting area with chairs to guests. Snorkeling is good right off Sprat Beach. There are several shell hunting beaches that are short walks from the road. These beaches are rarely visited and we always find great shells on them. I will provide you with maps and information to help you explore parts of Water Island others never see.
The larger public beach is Honeymoon Beach. There is great swimming, snorkleing along with sunny and shady places to sit.
The harmless wildlife on the island is great fun to see. The red footed tortises will eat right from your hand. The pelicans dive on Honeymoon and Sprat. Hummingbirds are everywhere as there is always something blooming. Lizards are plentiful in all shapes and sizes. The iquana are a little shy but are seen dashing into the woods.
Water Island is a place where you can really get away from it all. Yet St. Thomas and its shops and restaurants are just a short ferry ride away.
My property manager will meet you at the WI ferry dock, take you to the house and be available during your stay for an questions or issues that arise.

Sprat Bay offers several private beaches where you'll often have the beach to yourself. Views along the way to the beaches are beautiful.

- Telephone : AT&T cell service works wells here. Verizon has worked recently. I suggest you check with your carrier.
- WiFi (Wireless Internet) : There is currently no wireless internet at the Cottage. Tickles Restaraunt at Crown Bay is a "hot spot" . There is also a computer internet location at Crown Bay where you can log on.

- There are a variety of "activies" on Water Island. Heidi cooks lunch on Honeymoon Beach most days. Heidi cooks a wonderful dinner some Saturday nights on Honeymoon Beach. She sets up tables with laterns. Monday night is "drive in" movie night on Honeymoon Beach where they show a movie on a screen tied between two palms! Just pull up in your golf cart. It is great fun. Hot dog, popcorn and drinks are available. Joe's bar, at the far end of Honeymoon makes mixed and frozen drinks during the day. Other events going on during the week will be posted on the board at the ferry dock. Activities may be limited by weather conditions and vary season to season.

Why the Owner Chose USVI - Water Island
My family visited several islands over the years on vacation. We love vacationing in the clear caribbean waters. We stumbled upon Water Island thru a friend of a friend of the family. We had never heard of it. Water Island had everything we were looking for in a vacation spot and now second home location. It is small, safe, clean, and friendly. There is no traffic to fight. Golf carts are great fun! Beaches are incredible and there is much wildlife and amazing flowers and other plants. Every visit is an adventure.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Palm Cottage is within the private area of Sprat Bay. It is on an acre of land. Our guests can enjoy VERY private beaches within Sprat as well as beautiful Honeymoon Beach. We have had several honeymooning couples, sailing couples, and families with children stay at the Cottage. Everyone has loved it. The house is furnished with everything you need except food and clothing.

This was our second year coming to Water Island and each time we fall more in love with the island. We had such a wonderful time at the Palm Cottage. We loved the open feel with the enormous screened in porch, it provided a great cool breeze all day long. The cottage had everything that we needed- plenty of pots and pans, gas grill, lots of towels,extra bedding and beach chairs. It was very clean and nicely decorated The cottage was also so private and had a wonderful view. We had fun exploring Sprat and other little beaches on that side of the island. And of course Honeymoon beach is fantastic. I am always sad to leave Water Island, but we look forward to returning to Palm Cottage next year. Thanks so much, Sonja and Josh Bauer

Three of us just spent a week at Palm Cottage and never was I more sad to leave a vacation. Not only was the cottage comfortable, clean and private - the entire island was amazing. We really enjoyed the screened porch area with a great view of St. Thomas. We watched cruise ships come and go, sunsets and the moonrises. Two of us slept on the futons on the porch - just like sleeping outside. We enjoyed Sprat Beach and Honeymoon Beach, each with their own beauty. If ever one wanted a white sand, palm trees, warm tropical breezes, seashell covered beach kind of vacation, this is the place! We found the natives to be most friendly and really enjoyed Heidi's beach cooking and drive in movie. Saw lots of wildlife - iguanas and turtles. Lots of flowers in bloom. The view from the bunker was 360 degrees of beautiful. Came home to northern California cold and rain and asked myself why I didn't just stay on Water Island. :)

I have visited Water Island with my husband four times over the last several years. I came upon it surfing the internet. Looking for a quiet peaceful place to vacation. I saw a rental for Palm Cottage! I made the best choice ever! Palm Cottage is a very unique place. Surrounded by beautiful palm trees, wildlife and it sits in the midst of so much foliage you can't even see another house or cottage around you. Sitting out on the screened in porch in the evenings, seeing St. Thomas across the way beautifully lit up is breathtaking. Watching the sunrises and sunsets is so romantic! I would never stay anywhere else when I visit. The property owner has always made sure that our visit was everything we had hoped it would be. Clean, well decorated and just the best place to stay! The beaches are gorgeous, The movies on Honey moon beach are fun. You can swim, fish, snorkel or just read a good book on the beach. Palm Cottage is our Paradise and I would recommend it very highly to anyone looking for a great vacation. Diane A. 9/23/2011

Palm Cottage exceeded our every expectation. It was very private, had great views, and was very comfortable. The house sits amoung the palms. I felt as if I was in a tree house overlooking the blue caribbean sea. We had a wonderful time exploring all the beaches in Sprat including the ship wreck. The fort was especially great a night for views of the stars. Water Island is a special place. Palm Cottage is the most romantic house on the island.

Palm Cottage is my new favorite vacation spot! I never knew there was such a private island in the USVI. The Cottage is soooo nice. The view is great. It is very cozy and private. It sure beats staying at the Westin!

Palm Cottage was the perfect vaction spot for us. It was private, a little rustic and very romantic. We loved being hidden amoung the palm trees for a week! Sprat Beach was beautiful. Driving a golf car around was great fun and easy. We will be back!

Palm Cottage has an intimate charm that makes it a perfect getaway. There's nothing quite like watching the ships come in from your four-poster colonial bed! And having access to the private Sprat Bay waterfront is the icing on the cake.

We had a great time in Palm Cottage. It was great fun watching the cruise ships from the deck. We also saw huge tortises in the yard and lots of exotic birds. We went to Sprat Beach on Wednesday. We spent most of our time on Honeymoon Beach. It only rained one day. Palm Cottage is very well done--very cute. Thanks!!
