This luxury mountain lodge on 90 acres sits on a point with panoramic views. Built years ago as a family retreat, it has been bought by 4 families from Florida and recently renovated and professionally decorated. It is situated on the eastern brow of Lookout Mountain approximately 8 miles from Mentone, AL, near the many camps for which the Mentone and Cloudland area is famous. Not too far from metropolitan areas, it is 40 miles south of Chattanooga and 100 miles from Birmingham or Atlanta. Located in an area of million dollar properties, the lodge is offered to the discriminating client. Guests relax in the Adirondack chairs on the point and see the views that are spectacular during any season. A perfect getaway for any nature lover, the 90 acres include mountain laurel, rhododendron, oak leaf hydrangea and trails through hardwood trees.

Whether you are planning a family vacation, a couples getaway, reunion, or wedding, this lodge offers unsurpassed ambiance with beautiful antiques and oriental rugs. The four bedrooms, each with its own bath, are exquisite with beautiful linens, rugs, and draperies. The large master bedroom with king bed has a balcony, fireplace, and windows on three sides.

The well-stocked kitchen has new cabinets and new appliances, with a 6 burner gas stove, a commercial refrigerator and a commercial freezer, state of the art diswasher, and antique marble work island. Step down one step to a huge new dining room with stone floors, and 12 beveled glass doors opening on two sides. A table custom made for the room is of heart pine floors from an 1880s building in Fort Payne, Alabama, and seats 20 people in gorgeous antique chairs.

The living room is large with a huge stone fireplace at one end and an entertainment center at the other. Seating of sofas and chairs and two soft rugs face each end of the room, and a game table and chairs are in one of the room's bay windows. For your enjoyment, a checker board/table and lots of poker chips are stored in the laundry room. Two chairs in the other bay window swivel to enjoy either the conversation or the brow view.

In addition to the four full baths upstairs, there are three 1/2 baths downstairs for convenience. The sunroom has its own fireplace with windows lining the other three walls. An antique oriental rug centers this room with a commercial ice maker, wet bar, another table and chairs for games or dining, and lots of seating for a large party.

    • Dec 13, 2008 - We found the 'Lodge' on VRBO. The write up and pictures were nice but did not begin to do justice. We were captivated by the interior and the view from all the many windows. There is plenty of seating for large groups. The bedrooms were very comfortable and each has a bath. Our family thoroughly enjoyed the firepit. We sat out at night, all bundled up, roasting marshmellows and watching for shooting stars. My grown children, their spouses, and my grandchildren loved our stay in Cloudland. As a matter of fact, we enjoyed it so much, I brought my sisters and brother back the very next weekend! We are already planning another visit in a few weeks and this time we intend to stay longer. Thanks so much for offering such a lovely place for many to enjoy.

    • I spent a weekend in December with some girl friends and the home was some beautiful that I have booked it again for our 25th wedding anniversary. The owners have thought of everything. We didn't need anything but food. We feel like you are in a "Southern Living" home.

    • Perfect for my book club gathering. We loved relaxing on The Brow, sitting in the living area or sun porch and taking in the beauty of the views. The kitchen was perfect for preparing meals. We hope to return.

    • The owners of this property have anticipated every need for guests' comfort whether you use the lodge to the max for a mid-size meeting or a large social event or just for a getaway with friends. The floor plan is ideal to provide privacy and discreet access for the bedroom hall even if the sunroom and dining room are in use for groups. Lots of places to find privacy and excellent spaces for large parties. The kitchen will suit family or professional cooks. Owners have struck a fine balance between comfort and style, with classic appointments among comfortable chairs. Good places to read or stare into the beautiful valley below. Enthusiasm for the lodge all pales in view of the splendid site, allowing unobstructed views to the east over farmland and distant mountains. This is the right vacation property to select if you want mountain isolation without a hint of "roughing it." Note that there are three restrooms on the ground floor, but all bedrooms and full baths are upstairs -- just something to keep in mind if your group includes someone unable to climb stairs. This is probably not a good property for toddlers. The bluff, the fine furnishings, and the absence of playthings all suggest it's meant for responsible adults. Our group of six loved the place, and all look forward to spending more time just at the lodge now that we've explored the surrounding area. If you want to read, write, think, or enjoy quiet conversations, this IS the right place.
