Location: Paris Arrondissement 3, Paris, Ile-de-France (Paris Area), France, Europe (MARAIS - PARIS)
Accommodations: Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)
Keywords: Paris Vacation Rental - Marais
The apartment is located in the heart of the Marais, within a few minutes walk of some of Paris’ most significant attractions. The Place De Vosges, Picasso and Carnavalet Museums are all within touching distance of the front door. Indeed the area is France’s largest historical district and home to a 700 year old Jewish quarter. But the Marais is no ghetto, its 17th Century architecture acting as a stunning backdrop to one of the city’s most vibrant neighbourhoods. An area which boasts some of Paris’ finest restaurants and cafes and which poses a challenge to even the most serious and sophisticated of shoppers.
In keeping with its historic surroundings, the apartment is located on the second floor of ‘Hôtel Herouet’, one of the Marais’ ‘Hôtel Particuliers’. These ‘Hôtel’ were the smart townhouses built and occupied by the aristocracy, intellectuals and nobility of Paris’ 17th Century court. The unit, one of only five apartments in the building, is accessed through large wooden doors on the street and then via the sanctuary of a private courtyard. The unusual triple aspect of the apartment and its floor to ceiling windows provide an abundance of light and tranquillity. Whilst the rich hues of the traditional walnut floor and comfortable furniture give the apartment a warm and intimate feel.
Although the 17th Century beams and other period features have been lovingly retained, the apartment was completely remodelled by a leading Paris architect in 2006. The unit includes 2 marble bathrooms with power showers, 2 walk-in closets, air-conditioning and a luxurious kitchen. A fully equipped utility room includes separate Miele washer and dryer. Bath and bed linens are of the finest quality and have been specially selected and imported from London.
The space is tailor made for a group of friends or young family to sample life at the heart of this unique pre-revolutionary quarter of Paris. The apartment comfortably sleeps six with two double bedrooms with king sized beds and a double sofa bed designed for everyday use. A 36”plasma TV, DVD, cable TV, high speed wireless internet and free calls to fixed lines in over 70 countries (including US, Canada, Australia and UK) are the finishing touches that combine the privacy and comforts of home with an historic Parisian setting.

We founds this apartment on SlowTrav. I emailed the owner and received a response right away. It was exactly what we were looking for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath in the heart of Paris. I loved staying in the Marais, lots of cafes, upscale shops (although some were closed b/c it was august holiday). The apartment was perfect for 4 of us, as my nephew and son could share one bathroom and my husband the other. The sofa bed was also ideal for my nephew to sleep on. The apartment is about 800 square feet which is rather large for Paris so we had plenty of room. The free wifi was great (although it would sometimes disconnect). The bedrooms are small, but comfortable. There is some noise at night b/c the Marais is a lively area and the bedrooms face Rue des Franc Bourgeois, but nothing ear plugs or couple glass of wine/champagne can't take care of. The apartment manager Barbara is very nice and takes care of everything. The owner Jonathan replies quickly to any questions and is very helpful.

we had our reservations: 6 adults (2 parents/2 children with spouses)but once settled in the location actually enhanced our visit. plenty of space, parents had their own restroom, easy access to food, cafes and all of paris'attractions. very cost effective relative to 3 hotel rooms. highly recommend this unit and the marais district.

With a pre-arranged taxi at the airport upon arrival, and again upon departure, our stay in Paris began on a very positive note. But then we saw the wonderful apartment and we knew this was going to be one of our best Paris visits ever. The apartment was immaculate, roomy, extraordinary neighborhood, with high ceilings and a kitchen for meals of any sort. Le Marais has become my favorite arrondissement, with great bakeries, shops, museums, and cathedrals all within walking distance. But it was the location of this apartment and it's cozy yet roomy feeling that made this trip most memorable. I've been coming to Paris since 1964 (and named my only daughter Paris) and from this point on will only stay in this arrondissement and specifically this apartment. We were 4 for this visit, my daughter of 15, son of 20, and wife of mid-50's We all want to return to this apartment, and we will. Fantastique!

I booked this apartment with some concern that it would not be as advertised, but immediately upon arrival I realized that my fears were unfounded. The apartment was exactly what I had hoped for and it was a perfect home base for my family on summer vacation. The apartment arrangement worked well with the girls (ages 7 and 10) sharing one bedroom and parents in the other, and then two well-appointed full-baths. Although the bedrooms were small, everything was clean and fresh and we felt we had ample space for our needs (the kitchen is small if you are planning heavy-duty cooking, but just fine for breakfast, snacks, or a light dinner.) The location was superb, with food, shopping, museums, and transportation all in striking distance. Having laundry in the unit was especially appreciated, as -- let's face it -- even on vacation this chore cannot be avoided. Internet worked well, too, and the free phone calls back to the States were a plus. Jonathan's careful notes were very helpful, and we appreciated his level of professionalism. All in all I would highly recommend this apartment.

We had a wonderful time in Paris, and quickly felt at home in the apartment. Thanks so much Jonathan! We actually shopped and cooked quite a bit, having a traditional Christmas dinner there of oysters, white sausage, along with escargot, risotto, salad. A feast! We loved exploring Paris, but enjoyed "our" neighborhood as much or more than any other. We also appreciated Andy's help getting to your place. He was gracious enough to also put us in touch with Jacques who had a van and could carry all five of us back to the Airport when we left. We'll definitely recommend your Apt. and the web site to friends. Thanks again Jonathan!

Just got back from a girls getaway and this apartment was absolutely fantastic. I would recommend it to any of my friends and family travelling to Paris. The apartment is located in the heart of the Marais on a gorgeous cobbled street filled with cafes, bakeries and trendy shops. It's very lively during the day and more chilled-out in the evening. While there are many little lovely bars and bistros around the corner, it's not a heaving party area. That said, taxis are plentiful and pretty cheap by European standards and given it's in such a central part of the city, it never cost us more than 8 or 9 euros to go to the Champs-Élysées, the Latin Quarter or the Bastille (although this is in walking distance too). It's about a 4 or 5 minute walk to St Paul metro stop or to the river, and there are plenty of shops, sites and museums in the area. There are also plenty of little supermarkets dotted around. Although you would be best to eat out and sample all the yummy foods in the area, the apartment has a great modern state of the art designer kitchen. While it's small, it has every appliance and utensil needed if cooking and eating in. And if you are eating in, theres a great plasma tv in the living room with a wide selection of DVDs. The apartment itself is really spacious and luxurious, with wooden floor boards throughout and great furniture to match. It has 2 full separate bathrooms and a further separate laundry with both washing machine and dryer. The beds are extremely comfortable with crisp white linin and soft Harrods towels. The place was really fantastic and the property manager Barbara was the warmest and welcoming host. Communication with the owner was excellent and he left us a folder of all sorts of useful tips and bistro reccommendations along with Paris guide books. Also, they offer free international calls to any landline in almost every city in the world. The only people I would not recommend this apartment to are those with mobility difficulties; because it is in an old fashioned building there are no lifts and the stairs are a quite narrow. I would not hesitate staying again and we all felt we had hit the jackpot as soon as we arrived. Thanks for making our trip to Paris so wonderful and memorable!

just got home tonight Jonathan and wanted to tell you how much we loved your apartment in Paris and how wonderful Barbara was as well. We have good friends from NY who have been working in Paris a lot this year and were going to recommend your place to their parents so I'll let you know if anything comes of that. We'll pass the word around Detroit as well but all was lovely. Best, Sarah
