My Favourite Apartment

Guest: Steven N
Date of Stay: 10/24/11 Review Submitted: 12/26/11

With a pre-arranged taxi at the airport upon arrival, and again upon departure, our stay in Paris began on a very positive note. But then we saw the wonderful apartment and we knew this was going to be one of our best Paris visits ever. The apartment was immaculate, roomy, extraordinary neighborhood, with high ceilings and a kitchen for meals of any sort. Le Marais has become my favorite arrondissement, with great bakeries, shops, museums, and cathedrals all within walking distance. But it was the location of this apartment and it's cozy yet roomy feeling that made this trip most memorable. I've been coming to Paris since 1964 (and named my only daughter Paris) and from this point on will only stay in this arrondissement and specifically this apartment. We were 4 for this visit, my daughter of 15, son of 20, and wife of mid-50's We all want to return to this apartment, and we will. Fantastique!

we had our reservations: 6 adults (2 parents/2 children with spouses)but once settled in the location actually enhanced our visit. plenty of space, parents had their own restroom, easy access to food, cafes and all of paris'attractions. very cost effective relative to 3 hotel rooms. highly recommend this unit and the marais district.

Great Apartment - wonderful value

Guest: Stacey M
Date of Stay: 08/01/11 Review Submitted: 12/26/11

We founds this apartment on SlowTrav. I emailed the owner and received a response right away. It was exactly what we were looking for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath in the heart of Paris. I loved staying in the Marais, lots of cafes, upscale shops (although some were closed b/c it was august holiday). The apartment was perfect for 4 of us, as my nephew and son could share one bathroom and my husband the other. The sofa bed was also ideal for my nephew to sleep on. The apartment is about 800 square feet which is rather large for Paris so we had plenty of room. The free wifi was great (although it would sometimes disconnect). The bedrooms are small, but comfortable. There is some noise at night b/c the Marais is a lively area and the bedrooms face Rue des Franc Bourgeois, but nothing ear plugs or couple glass of wine/champagne can't take care of. The apartment manager Barbara is very nice and takes care of everything. The owner Jonathan replies quickly to any questions and is very helpful.

Wonderful Marais apartment for family of 4

Guest: Lynn (Washington, DC)
Date of Stay: 08/14/10 Review Submitted: 02/21/11

I booked this apartment with some concern that it would not be as advertised, but immediately upon arrival I realized that my fears were unfounded. The apartment was exactly what I had hoped for and it was a perfect home base for my family on summer vacation. The apartment arrangement worked well with the girls (ages 7 and 10) sharing one bedroom and parents in the other, and then two well-appointed full-baths. Although the bedrooms were small, everything was clean and fresh and we felt we had ample space for our needs (the kitchen is small if you are planning heavy-duty cooking, but just fine for breakfast, snacks, or a light dinner.) The location was superb, with food, shopping, museums, and transportation all in striking distance. Having laundry in the unit was especially appreciated, as -- let's face it -- even on vacation this chore cannot be avoided. Internet worked well, too, and the free phone calls back to the States were a plus. Jonathan's careful notes were very helpful, and we appreciated his level of professionalism. All in all I would highly recommend this apartment.

We had a wonderful time in Paris, and quickly felt at home in the apartment. Thanks so much Jonathan! We actually shopped and cooked quite a bit, having a traditional Christmas dinner there of oysters, white sausage, along with escargot, risotto, salad. A feast! We loved exploring Paris, but enjoyed "our" neighborhood as much or more than any other. We also appreciated Andy's help getting to your place. He was gracious enough to also put us in touch with Jacques who had a van and could carry all five of us back to the Airport when we left. We'll definitely recommend your Apt. and the web site to friends. Thanks again Jonathan!

Just got back from a girls getaway and this apartment was absolutely fantastic. I would recommend it to any of my friends and family travelling to Paris. The apartment is located in the heart of the Marais on a gorgeous cobbled street filled with cafes, bakeries and trendy shops. It's very lively during the day and more chilled-out in the evening. While there are many little lovely bars and bistros around the corner, it's not a heaving party area. That said, taxis are plentiful and pretty cheap by European standards and given it's in such a central part of the city, it never cost us more than 8 or 9 euros to go to the Champs-Élysées, the Latin Quarter or the Bastille (although this is in walking distance too). It's about a 4 or 5 minute walk to St Paul metro stop or to the river, and there are plenty of shops, sites and museums in the area. There are also plenty of little supermarkets dotted around. Although you would be best to eat out and sample all the yummy foods in the area, the apartment has a great modern state of the art designer kitchen. While it's small, it has every appliance and utensil needed if cooking and eating in. And if you are eating in, theres a great plasma tv in the living room with a wide selection of DVDs. The apartment itself is really spacious and luxurious, with wooden floor boards throughout and great furniture to match. It has 2 full separate bathrooms and a further separate laundry with both washing machine and dryer. The beds are extremely comfortable with crisp white linin and soft Harrods towels. The place was really fantastic and the property manager Barbara was the warmest and welcoming host. Communication with the owner was excellent and he left us a folder of all sorts of useful tips and bistro reccommendations along with Paris guide books. Also, they offer free international calls to any landline in almost every city in the world. The only people I would not recommend this apartment to are those with mobility difficulties; because it is in an old fashioned building there are no lifts and the stairs are a quite narrow. I would not hesitate staying again and we all felt we had hit the jackpot as soon as we arrived. Thanks for making our trip to Paris so wonderful and memorable!

Dear Jonathan, We are back from the trip to our hectic life but still have wonderful memories from our stay at your apartment in Paris. The apartment is in a perfect location, bright and full of light, very well designed - we could tell that a lot of thinking was invested in each detail. Also Barbara was nice and friendly. Thanks to your apartment we felt we have a home is Paris. We will be delighted to stay again there when we'll visit Paris and to recommend to all our friends that will be visiting Paris to stay there - we are sure that they will enjoy as well. Thank you again for the wonderful apartment and for all your useful advises. Best regards, Diana and Israel Laban

Dear Jonathan, I just wanted to take this opportunity to tell you once again how much we all enjoyed your apartment and how perfect it is for the four of us. This year, we did not feel compelled to run from museum to museum. Instead, we spent a lot of time walking around the different neighborhoods stopping to share a bottle of wine along the way. We went to the Marche des Enfants Rouge for the first time and had a delicious Moroccan lunch. Yesterday, we went on a day trip to Giverny. But whatever we did, we always spent late afternoons back at the apartment drinking wine, and snacking on baguette, cheese, tapanade, etc. We would relax and refuel and then go out for the evening. Thank you so much for creating a space that is so comfortable for two couples. We are afforded the privacy we desire and the additional room to be together. Jamie and I are talking about taking our daughters to Paris some time during the year, probably in winter. If our plans come to fruition, we will definitely contact you about renting your apartment once again. Until then, Best Regards, Robin Cohen

I recently returned from a stay at this apartment and it was excellent. I was with 5 other adults and we thoroughly enjoyed the surroundings. There was enough space for everyone and the bathrooms / showers worked great. I would absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to my entire family. The area is lively with a number of wonderful bakeries and markets, 2 metro stops nearby, and everything you would possibly need.

We arrived at the apartment and were immediately smitten. Barbara, who was very warm and friendly, was waiting for us and gave us a tour of the apartment. Your apartment was perfect for us because it afforded us the privacy we wanted but gave us plenty of living space to share. Every room was bright and airy, the kitchen and bathroom appliances were very clean and modern, the beds were comfortable and the rooms were all tastefully decorated. (We especially loved the coffee table in the living room.) The walk-in closet gave us ample room for our clothes and we all used it as our dressing room. Since my sister hadn't been to Paris in 25 years and her boyfriend had never been there, we spent the first few days on a whirlwind tour, but really appreciated having an apartment to come home to in the afternoon for wine, cheese and baguettes. We consulted your "book" regularly when dining or going food shopping and loved wandering around the neighborhood making our own discoveries. All in all, we had an incredible time. I want to thank you for creating such a beautiful space and for providing your personal guide book. We hope to rent your apartment again the next time we are in Paris, and will definitely recommend it to our friends and family who travel there. Until then, best regards, Robin Cohen

"Liked: Unbeatable location. We love the Marais district and this place was in a perfect spot. Beautiful, comfortable and spacious appartment. Very happy with our stay. We loved the very popular Le Loir dans la Theiere cafe in rue des rosiers. Delicious cakes and puddings. And also Korcasz cafe was very nice. Great boulangerie in rue vieille du temple. Enjoyed visiting Musee Picasso and Place des Vosges. We found hotel de ville to be the most convenient metro stop for the appartment. And in 3-4 days we got through 5 carnets of metro tickets for a family of 4.

Our stay in the Paris apt was everything Stacy & I were looking for. It was funky, cozy, peaceful & in the perfect area. We checked out your falafel place (wonderful) & found an amazing Moroccan in the 3rd called Restaurant 404 at 69, rue des Gravilliers. I've already decided I will be back again next February, but do not have any firm dates. I've seen the calendar & noticed that the apt. seems to be constantly booked year round. I won't know for sure my dates til later this year (Aug/Sept). I'd like to make this an annual trip, so if you see that February is getting filled pls let me know. Thanks again, Alaina

We had a great time, thanks. Your apartment is lovely and we have always liked that area. Have your children discovered the little shop that sells knitted finger puppets? It a tiny shop on the right hand side in Vielle du Temple on the way to G20. Chloe and Alice loved it, they went in every day, befriended the ladies in there and we ended up bringing about 15 finger puppets home. It was the highlight for them, even compared to all the other sights, sounds and smells Paris has to offer! We have told quite a few people about the apartment and forwarded the web details so you may get some more enquiries. Anyway, yes we'd definitely stay with you again, and sorry we broke one of the mugs. Regards Sally

We had a wonderful time in Paris, the apartment, Barbara, Andy everything was exceptional. The service and attention we were given was beyond we could have imagined. Both Barbara and Andy were kind and helpful and made our arrival so much easier. The apartment has been raved about endlessly from Dublin to Brisbane, don’t be surprised if there is an influx of enquiries from down this way. We have nothing but positives to report from our stay, the apartment was beautiful, and in the most fantastic location, we loved every minute.Thank you for all you assistance with local restaurants, attractions etc. Having a local knowledge made it so much easier when it came to eating out and getting around particularly with the kids and our rather limited French. I cannot gush enough, it was the most wonderful week, thank you so very much. RegardsCaroline Kelly

Paris was phenomenal. The apartment was excellent and in a great location. We would stay there again. The only thing I can think of is you might consider adding the Au Gamin De Paris restaurant to your recommended list. It was recommended to us by a friend and it is just around the corner from your apartment. The food was excellent. We ate there twice. Address is 51 Rue Vielle Du Temple. Overall we couldn’t have stayed in a better place. Andy was a good choice for a taxi driver and right on time. Barbara was helpful as well. We hope to make it back there again someday. Thanks for making our first trip to Paris a pleasant one! By the way do you own any units in London? We are wanting to travel there in the future. -Rick Franks

We're back home remembering all the fun we had both in Nice and in Paris. As for your apartment in Paris, we loved it! The kitchen is nicely equipped - we ate every breakfast and several dinners there, so it worked very well for us. The bathrooms were nice, too. I particularly liked the huge showerhead in the bathroom furthest from the entry door (that's the one Budd and I used). We loved the location of the apartment - it's a wonderful street and close to so many things (including the métro). The "Livre de la Maison" that you've prepared is very helpful. All in all our trip was wonderful! Thank you very much for your part in it. The next time we're heading for Paris maybe you'll hear from us again. Do you have suggestions for London, too?Best wishes,Carolynn
