History: The historic antebellum brick home was built in 1851 by Jacob Rabb, who purchased the lot from the neighboring Methodist Episcopal Church. He constructed the present building, a typical brick single house with a plastered brick gable end and slate roof. Our home is the only survivor of its kind of the Fire of 1861 in Annsonborough, which is evident by the smaller more modest wooden dwellings constructed after the Civil War, such as the freedman's cottages at 14 and 17 Pinckney Street, and the small wooden single houses at 18 and 19 Pinckney Street. The property has had extensive renovations over the past 15 years, receiving several awards for historic preservation, and the Carolopolis Award from the Preservation Society of Charleston. The Jacob Rabb House is protected by a Conservation Easement Donated to Historic Charleston Foundation, 2004.
The charming Annsonborough Neighborhood itself was conceived in 1696 as the first "suburb" of the original walled City of Charles Town. It came to be known as Annsonborough for the colonial naval officer George Anson, the future First Lord of the Admiralty. It was said that he won the rights to the property in a card game with a wealthy local merchant. What great luck! A stroll through the neighborhood will give you examples of amazing historic architecture, grand columns and piazzas, original wrought iron gates, lovely gardens and courtyards, massive live oaks and one of the few original cobblestone streets left in the City.
The property is located on Pinckney Street at Church Street, just one block off famous Market Street. Our perfect location enables you to enjoy every aspect of Charleston's Historic District. Step right out your front piazza door and this grand City is yours! Walk through the Old City Market on your way to stroll the famous Battery on East Bay Street, or take up a few art galleries and antique shops along King Street before a quiet, lovely dinner at one of Charleston's many fine restaurants. Pack a picnic and head to the Waterfront Park or take a private ride around town in a Horse-drawn Carriage. Museums, the Aquarium, The Dock Street Theater, famed House and Garden Tours, and even a evening Ghost Tour are all within walking distance of your vacation rental home.
The Property: Upon entering the property via a gated drive into the well kept garden, you begin to experience the real feel of your visit to Charleston. Take some time to relax a bit in the garden, then ease on up to the piazza, drop into a rocker and take in the sights and sounds of the City. Lets go inside . . .
The first level of the home consists of a formal yet cozy Drawing Room (or sitting room), a formal Dinnng Room, the well appointed Kitchen, and a Powder Room. Moving upstairs to the second level, you come upon the Library, stocked with over 300 great books for your reading enjoyment. Also on the second level you will find the Master Suite, consisting of a beautiful bedroom and stunning bath with a shower, separate tub, and double sinks. The washer/dryer is also located in the master bath for your convenience, although cleverly hidden from view. With the second floor piazza enterance located just outside your bedroom door, you will be tempted to grab a book and rock away while enjoying the views of the garden and City. Finally, up to the third level you will find two well appointed Guestrooms, one with a futon added for a young adult or child. We also have a full bath (shower only) on this level, as well as a small sitting area at the top of the steps.
We are confident you and your family will find our property to be exactly what you are looking for in a rental property for your next visit to Charleston, South Carolina. The experience in our home will send you home with memories for a lifetime. We look forward to meeting you soon. Take care.

This house is truly one of a kind. We have traveled throughout the US and rented VRBO homes and have never stayed in one of this caliber. The house is very well appointed (and we are designers so we don't use that term loosely) and in walking distance to everything that matters. You truly feel like you are a local in the heart of the historic Charleston. You can have a glass of wine on the second floor balcony, watch the horse carriages go by, rock in the rocking chair and bask in the sun with your friends in family. Or if it's too warm outside you can sit in the parlor and have sweet tea and revel in the stories that the walls could tell throughout the year. Seriously, if this house is available, book it without question! Michael was a true pleasure to work with as well. He was relaxed, comfortable and charming. They would do whatever it took to make your stay memorable. They also treated it like a home as opposed to a business so you truly felt welcome, not rushed and that it was yours for the time you were there. Run, don't walk to this amazing home!

The Rabb House is a gorgeous home right in the heart of downtown Charleston. We just spent a fantastic weekend there, and the location could not have been better. We were within walking distance of great restaurants, carriage rides, upscale shopping, nightlife, and the beach. The home itself has all the amenities and reflects the traditional Charleston style. The owner was available to answer all of our questions and made the transaction easy. I highly recommend the home - you will definitely not be disappointed with your stay here!

What a privilete it was for myself, my sister, and my brother (plus spouses) to stay in our great, great grandfather's house on our sibling reunion in Charleston. The house is elegant, and beautifully appointed. We are so appreciative of the wonderful care that Shay and Michael have given to the home. We are still "pinching ourselves" to know that we could stay in the Jacob Rabb home. Thank you, Shay, for looking after all the details that made our stay in your home so enjoyable and meaningful. Our family had a wonderful Thanksgiving in Charleston and the thanks must go to Shay and her lovely Charleston home. The welcoming flowers, the special touches throughout the home, the soaps, fabulous towels, sheets, etc. made for a fabulous stay. We walked everywhere, left our car parked at the door, and had a most pleasant stay. Thanks, Shay!

Our family (5 adults) stayed at the Jacob Rabb House from November 8-11 2007. The house is beautiful: tastefully furnished and decorated, spotlessly clean and centrally located so within easy walking distance of all the sightseeing, shops and restaurants. We did rent a car so the off street parking was great. The owner Shay was a pleasure to deal with and added lovely touches such as fresh fruit and flowers. It even had wireless internet access which is a must have these days. I will be sure to recommend it to friends who might be visiting the area as it is rare to find such a lovely, spacious house for the less than the cost of three rooms at a decent hotel.

We stayed at this beautifully restored house for two weeks. It has everything you'll need. The owner, who went out of her way to be helpful, has decorated and outfitted the house at a level far above what you usually see in a vacation rental. The location is perfect. It is within walking distance of everything in the historic district and downtown area of Charleston.
