My family wanted a beach vacation experience this summer and I was super lucky enough to find the Rio Del Mar Beach property. We rented this unit in early July and were so happy we did!!! It was a clean, cheerful well kept property. It had all the amenities that we were looking for in a summer beach rental, plus it's was so close to the beach. The owner warned us that there might be ants due to the rain we had in June, but we didn't see any ants (we promised the owner we would call a.s.a.p. if we saw one). I would HIGHLY recommend this property, and would stay there again. We found everything in our unit functional, very clean, warm and inviting. We also thought the owner was extremely accommodating, and friendly. Thank you so much for a wonderful summer vacation!!

Recommended for:Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Stayed with my family summer of 2011 (just noticed all other reviews are several years old) and all though the owner was very nice, I am sorry to say the place needs some real love. We had ants everywhere and I mean everywhere so bad that we kept all food in the fridge, plates/dishes separated, had to spray and put traps out, it was a major pain and we almost moved out. Breaker would trip in the bathroom with a single hair dryer (she stated they were getting electrical work done that was not finished). There is a grill but it was not clean. The towels and sheets could use a refresh as well. It is really great area, really great location and has the potential of being a nice place but I would not pay that kind of money for that rental in the future. I was reimbursed by the owner my cleaning fee and the ant spray/traps and a few other misc. items that were required by for the stay.

Owner response:I am very sorry for the experience that GB from Scottsdate had this summer. This is not the experience I want my guests to have while they are staying at the beach house. The ants were uexpected and when I looked into it with the exterminator it turns out that due to all the late rain we had, the ants that normally were happy outside, were being flooded out. They had numerous reports of ant activity. I am happy to report that since then no ants have been spotted in the unit. The grill was dirty from use and I have personally cleaned it out. I have had numerous guests stay since GB and all have been happy. I would be more than happy to answer any questions you have about the property to make you feel more comfortable with renting the unit.

I stayed with my two children and baby in Louise's rental. We had the time of our lives. The rental was very comfortable for my children and I. We either ate or prepared all meals there. And, it was big enough that we had enough room for all of our stuff for two weeks and space to relax and hang out in the evenings. The only thing I would say to be aware of is that when staying downstairs, you can hear everything with the upstairs neighbors, so if they are loud, it can be a bit of a challenge. And, it's not baby-proofed if you have a baby. The beach is a very walkable 2 1/2 blocks or so away. Louise provides all beach toys, boogie boards, sliders, etc. And, Louise herself is very kind and down to Earth. As for the beach, the sand was nice and soft, lots of room, lots of kids around to play with, great surf, lots of wonderful wildlife (dolphins, seals, sea birds), bathrooms, and fire pits. We had a blast! Thanks so much, Louise! We will never forget our time in Aptos!!

Owner response:I'm really glad you had a great time! I do apologize for the noise from upstairs. It has not been a problem in the past but we are looking into changing the type of flooring in the upper unit so it does not become consistent problem. As for baby proofing, it's hard to do as I have a variety of guests staying at the house. That being said, I would be happy to accomodate any needs any one has while they are staying (ie. having outlet covers available). So, don't be afraid to ask for anything! Thanks! Louise

This rental was my familys first experience and it was a great one. Everything was so clean. The owner made the transaction so easy. The rental is close everything, the beach, shops, and of course the boardwalk. I have to stress how clean the rental was, we usually take our own pillows and blankets to use, but I was highly satisfied with the linens. No worries whatsoever. I would definitely recommend this rental to everyone. Thanks Louise.

Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your home with us! We had a fantastic time and there truly was everything we needed in the home. We loved to walk to the beach, and went to the boardwalk another day. We hope to use it again in the future. What a nice little town Aptos is, we ate in Capitola one night at casa rositas, (Man, they give you a lot of food, it is good too. ) We ate at Rivas on the SC wharf yesterday, great chowder and fish and chips and prices. We have very good friends in Felton, so this is close enough to visit them.

We stayed here in the upper unit of this building in October of 2008. We had a wonderful time and loved the property. It was a short walk to the beach and short drive to Santa Cruz with lots of great restaurants and shops. It was the perfect location for our trip to the Central Coast. The apartment was comfortable, clean and spacious. The town of Aptos was so cute and quiet, we loved it there. We actually got engaged while on this trip so it will always have a special memory for us. We would love to come back someday!

what a great find! our family of four had a fabulous weekend. it is a great location (close enough to the beach for a pokey 6 year old), with all the amenities we needed (esp. with kids!)& the price is right. we hope to stay here again!!!

Thanks Louise, It was absolutely lovely. Your place is decorated really nicely and was very comfy and so close to the beach- it was perfect. The beds were great, and even the pullout was super-comfy!! It was really quiet inside the condo too even though there was a lot going on in the street!!

We stayed in the bottom unit for almost a week. the location was wonderful - walking to the beach every morning was easy and enjoyable. the unit was very clean and the neighborhood was surprisingly quiet. the kitchen had everything necessary for an enjoyable stay. My only complaint was that the ceiling/upstairs floor was squeaky, so the guests above were noticeable. Even so, I'd stay here again in a heartbeat because of the great location!

We spent a long week July 25-28, 2008 and were very pleased with the 2 bedroom, upstairs unit. The unit is very spacious and clean! Everything you need is there, even beach chairs, umbrella, toys, etc. So, So, So much better than the Rio Sands across the street! The beach was close enough to walk with our 4 yr old and the unit was very child friendly. Stairs were easy to navigate. Unit was so quiet at night. We loved it and will be back!

This is a very nice place to stay me and my family just spent the weekend ,and had a great time. The beach is so close from the condo. The condo is nicely decorated and cozy. The owner provides plenty of towels,blankets, nonstick pots and pans, you name it they got it. Just bring your clothes and food. I gaurantee you will enjoy your stay. Thanks Louise we had fun :)

This is a great place! It's in a quiet neighborhood close to the beach. The unit was very clean and had everything we needed, including beach toys & chairs. Louise (the owner) was wonderful to deal with, friendly & accommodating. We had a great weekend & hope to return soon!

Very accomodating owners. Clean property. Perfect beach property for small family or two couples. We had two small children and it was the perfect property for us. Great access to Rio Del Mar Beach-easily walkable. In a very cute beach neighborhood with great restaurants and coffee houses. We would definitely go back!

My family and I spent 5 days in this unit and we couldn't have asked for a better VRBO experience. The unit was very clean and nicely furnished. I have 2 children under the age of 5 and the beach was a short walk (even for a pregnant mom with 2 kids:) and everything in the unit was very "kid" friendly. Thank you!

We enjoyed our stay in this darling unit. Very clean and newly decorated with everything we needed. The level lot and short walk to the beach made it a perfect vacation spot for my two small grandaughters.
