Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2004
I am a retired nurse, a photographer and a writer. I have travelled around the world in my lifetime and lived in many unusual and intriquing places. I settled in Kauai a few years back because i found it to be a " world apart" right here in america. I lived here with my family until life and the mainland called to them.
The home is in a very special area known by the locals to have " good mana". So when I say it is whispered that dreams can come true here, I am serious , if you can tune in that is.
Although the house was too big for me alone, I decided to stay here and share the magic it offers. .I have rented it now for almost 4 years and have met vacationers from all around the world and every walk of life. . Its magic seems to attract , for the most part, unique and delightful people and I feel blessed by that.
The tranquility of the property and the gentle sounds of water and birds make writing and daydreaming easy., The local people are full of life and heart.. You can learn the meaning of aloha here just by hanging out with them.
In my travels I was drawn to the richness of life, the multifacited human experience, so Kauai has been perfect for me. Aparently it is one of the most diversely populated places in America.
It is not for those who seek a bland and homogenous experience. I say that to warn off any travellers who lean towards the resort hotel vacation.
This is a safe place, probably as safe as any you can find, but it is not sterile. Someone might yell at you when you "' hog" the bridge, and once in awhile you hear a wild boar hunt way off in the jungle or a sky shaking thunderstorm passes through , leaving us sparkling clean and wide awake.
Now that my life is winding down , I want to become more than I was rather than less. I want to hear the whole forest of birds sing and not miss out on that because I'm zeroed in on the rooster's morning crow. Kauai is perfect for that kind of " adventure" . It is saturated with the sacred.
.
Why the Owner Chose Hanalei
I did not chose a vacation rental. It was the last thing on my mind. It just worked out that way.
The Unique Benefits of this House
I enjoy all the benefits that I have mentioned already. I forgot to mention though that this place is never without a story, a new screen play or a new experience of some multileveled kind. If you are a photographer you will never lack the perfect picture. They are constantly unfolding everywhere. If you want to be part of the community here you can get involved. There is a lot going on to get involved in. There is an ongoing development and encouragement towards sustainable living and best of all there is a spark of a movement back to the old ways of Ohana ( shared living and caring) kuleana (respect and responsibilty) and aloha..which is heart.

A fabulous piece of paradise, and Dawn is a warm and caring owner. We had our son, daughter in law and 19 month old grandson with us. The house is beautiful and baby friendly, the beaches are fabulous and Hanalei is a magical place. We hope to be back next year. Dawn was a great help on where to go and what to do. The grounds on the property offered a place to relax and listen to the many birds. We enjoyed a fabulous Luau just minutes away. We loved the trade winds blowing a beautiful breeze through the house. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday - this is where you should be!

We stayed at the Hyatt Kauai on the South Shore for the first part of the stay, but our experience at Red Ginger/Song of the Jungle retreat was by far the best part of our visit on the island. The home was clean and inviting. The owner was very cordial and responsive as well. There was everything provided for the beach as well as pointers on hiking, etc. Hanalei town was just a short drive away and has such character...a must see. We are very clean people and can't believe the "fluke" reviews that have been made recently since our stay was in the first part of March 2011. Every accomodation was made, even in the tsunami scare that we experienced. The rental owner provided an abundance of food and water in the event of a natural disaster, as well as kept us consantly informed on a local level. We wouldn't hesitate to reccommend this property to anyone and wouldn't think twice about calling the owner again on our next visit to Kauai.

We stayed at three different houses while we were on Kauai and we loved this one the best. It is off the beaten path but close to Hanalei town. The pictures do not do this property justice!!! You are completely surrounded by lush, beautiful plants. There is tons of rad bamboo and wild native plants. We awoke every morning to rain and watching the sunshine on the green mountains all around us, NOT to roosters like everywhere else we stayed. It has a beautiful open floor plan. The master bed was SO comfy, clean and large. We have a 16 month old daughter and it was safe and clean for her also. Thank you soooo much Dawn, we had an amazing time.

Close enough to town to "run a quick errand", but far enough from everything to wake up only to the sound of bird calls, soft rain or crickets. No traffic noises, no other noises at all. The cottage is beautiful, clean and peaceful inside, we especially loved the massage chair, what a great way to unwind! And the view, especially in the main bedroom is quite amazing. It was so nice to get up and cook breakfast in the full kitchen, with everything provided but the food, and then go have breakfast on the lanai. Couldn't ask for a more peaceful spot to relax after a day of exploring the island. Highly recommend this place!

I had an absolutely wonderful time! Your beautiful home was more beautiful than I had hoped it would be and you made my stay very easy and pleasant. It was great having the cats around too, they really added to the charm. The breezes and the rain at night give your special corner of the world the perfect measure of mystery and soul. I was just settling in and now I have to go! Such is life. But I will be back! I can't wait! Mahalo John Kane ( entered from house quest book 10/2/ 09)..
