Aloha mai kakou!

We are really fortunate to live on this side of the island! The Ko'olau Mountains are so spectacular and the gorgeous white sand beaches are so inviting. Our mornings usually start with a symphony of birds singing outside, while at night we fall asleep to the sounds of the surf pounding in the distance.

Ka'a'awa is located on the windward side of O'ahu between Kane'ohe and North Shore. Unlike Waikiki, you can enjoy our white sand beaches without fighting your way through crowds. The water is a gorgeous blue and there's a natural reef several hundred yards off the coast that keep the waves from being too big and dangerous near the shore.

Our three bedroom, two bath home is fully furnished and tastefully decorated in a Hawaiian hula theme. Wood floors in front, nice carpet in the bedrooms. The kitchen is fully stocked with all of the appliances and utensils you would want. Bathrooms are done in Italian marble. There is a queen bed in the master bedroom and two full beds in the other two bedrooms. Additionally, we have a full-size futon couch in the living room and fold-up mattresses for keiki.

Outside, the property is surrounded by lush tropical foliage, providing a nice secluded feeling at the house. Our daughter's favorite is the beautiful, fragrant plumeria tree in the backyard that blooms pretty white and yellow flowers.

This is a great place for families or couples, as well as wedding parties. Plus it's a good value! There are several other rental homes in the area that are right on or across from the beach. These properties are quite nice, but they also command much higher rental costs. When you stay at our place, you save money and you are also a block off the main highway, which means less traffic and noise.

Come and stay with us... peaceful, relaxing, tropical and clean.

Conveniently located:
* In the Ka'a'awa Valley where Jurassic Park was filmed
* The Polynesian Cultural Center is about 15 minutes away
* The world famous North Shore is about 25 minutes away
* Honolulu airport is about 40 minutes away
* Waikiki is about 45 minutes away

If you have any questions about our wonderful vacation rental or about Hawai'i in general, don’t hesitate to ask. Whether you rent from us or not, we would be glad to do anything we can to make your vacation special and memorable.

Mahalo, malama pono

Why the Owner Chose Kaaawa

The windward side and Ka'a'awa in particular have special meaning for our 'ohana. Many of our fondest memories have taken place on these windward beaches. And we are so glad that Pono Loa has become a gathering place for our 'ohana, friends and haumana!

Aloha Bob and Laura, Mahalo again for everything, we had a great time, the house was impeccable, we loved Kaaawa. We even got to climb the mountain behind to check out the view from up there. We will recommend it to everyone.

A Vacation to Remember

Aloha Keahiloa and mahalo to you and your family for the use of your home. We found the house to be well-stocked with everything we needed for our family's three week stay. We enjoyed getting to know our neighbors and our kids really enjoyed meeting their kids. The daily rains were refreshing and the mild temps made us forget the Texas heat. Our adventures took us all over the island of Oahu. The central location of your home made it easy to get to all them. Some of our favorite destinations included the Bishop Museum, Iolani Palace, and the USS Arizona Memorial and other exhibits within the Pearl Harbor Visitor's Center. As for outdoor activities, we found the summertime current at North Shore beaches to be ideal for all of us. The swimming, snorkeling, kayaking were all great. (Now as for the surfing...we still need a few lessons!) My husband and his dad were able to get some mountain hiking in thanks to the nearby Ko'Olau Mountains while I drove the kids up Tantalus Drive to Pu'u Ualaka'a for an awesome view of Honolulu and Diamond Head crater. This was also a nice area to bird watch. While our days were busy, we were always glad to return to our quiet and comfortable home away from home. Yes the local rooster does crow early, but not for long. Thank you again for your hospitality!

Owner response:Mahalo nui! so glad you and your 'ohana (family) had a great time and that our home served you well as a resting spot in-between all the wonderful activities. come back and stay anytime! return guests always have priority as well as preferred discounted rates! Aloha!

I stayed here a week with my friends. Very spacious, clean, comfortable house. It was VERY close to the beach. I kept traveling to Waikiki (it was a bit of a drive but I didn't mind since I'm used to Los Angeles traffic) and got to enjoy the drive next to the ocean. The house had everything we needed. I hope to stay here again in the future. Thank you for sharing your home with us! Mahalo!

Aloha Keahiloa and Family, We wanted to thank you very much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home during the week of our vacation. It was such a memorable experience. Whenever I travel to Hawaii I usually stay in Waikiki, and it's fine if you want to do the 'tourist thing', but staying at Pono Loa was a real vacation. I woke up every morning to the roosters crowing, drank coffee on the porch with an awesome view of the mountains, met wonderful locals and ate great Hawaiian food. We spent a lot of time at Papa 'Ole's (maybe more time than we should have... Oops!). Spent most of our beach time in Waimea Bay, the drive is breathtaking, or Swanzy Beach which is a convenient walk away. It truly felt like home away from home. Thank you again for lending us your home, it was more than we could've asked. All of your information and suggestions were greatly appreciated and helped a lot. I can’t wait to go back. Mahalo and God Bless,

Aloha Keahiloa, We loved Pono-Loa! Our daughter from California and her husband joined us and they both loved the place too. They said that they would definitely stay there if they came back to Hawai'i. We couldn't believe how well everything was stocked - bedding, bathroom supplies, etc. My husband who loves to cook was really impressed with how well the kitchen was stocked. The kids had fun with the snorkeling gear and boogie boards. The only thing that was a bother was the early crowing of the roosters, but there's not much you can do about that. We understand completely as they are all over Hawaii. My son-in-law figured out a quick fix though... he bought a pair of ear plugs which worked for him. Again, thank you for letting us share your lovely home and we hope that things continue to go well for you.

Hi Keahiloa, Just wanted to say "thanks again" one more time! My newlywed wife and I really enjoyed your beautiful house. It was the perfect place for us following our wedding. We especially appreciated the thoughtful welcome gifts of beverages and snacks. Wanted to also let you know that several of our relatives came to visit and they plan to call you about renting the house for future vacations. thank you again and a "BIG MAHALO" for your gracious hospitality!

We were so grateful to have one week at Pono-Loa. Thank you for sharing your vacation home with us. The location was perfect for us to visit with family on the island but also be able to explore on our own. Kaaawa is a great community in itself, close to great beaches, parks, north shore destinations such as Sharks Cove, Polynesian Cultural Center and far from the crowds. It was right where we wanted to be. The house was comfortable, full of aloha and well stocked with everything we needed and more. We loved how fast the tradewinds would cool off the house once we came home and opened the jalousies! And of course waking up to the roosters' sound was classic Hawaii! We look forward to our next stay at Pono-Loa!
