Welcome to the sunny southeast and our beautiful apartment in Youghal where nothing is overlooked but the sea. The sun shines in the South of Ireland far more than anywhere else in this beautiful country. We call it the Irish riviera. The people are very friendly and laid back, and you will feel at home immediately.
The apartment is on an elevated site with spectacular views overlooking Youghal bay. It is part of a 4 star Bord failte holiday complex which boasts an outdoor heated pool( july and august), professional tennis courts, childrens play area, croquet lawn and bowling green all on site. Childrens club available during July and August. It is a ground floor apartment and is in a quiet part of the complex. The patio doors open up onto a large open green area with the view of Youghal bay in the background. In the immediate vicinity of the complex ( walking distance) there is : an 18 hole golf course and 2 blue flag beaches.
Youghal town centre with its many fine restaurants and historic features, is a 10 minute walk away. Youghal is a great location from which to explore the entire southern region. Cork City and airport (they think they are the capital) are a half hour's drive away. Visit its museums: The Titanic's last port of call was Cobh county Cork, and there is a wonderful multimedia museum in Cobh dedicated to its memory, or indulge in its wonderful shopping. Visit Fota island wildlife park where animals roam in wide open spaces or play a round of golf in Fota Island golf course (half an hour's drive) or at Youghal golf links (just outside the holiday complex)
Cork is the gourmet capital of Ireland, and if you are a serious "foody" you will not want to leave. Visit trendy gourmet kinsale and Darina Allen's famous cookery school and restaurant at ballymaloe house. And of course do not forget the heritage town of Lismore and the Waterford crystal factory and shop (45 minute drive).
There are two wonderful sandy blue flag beaches within walking distance of the complex. They stretch for miles and are very safe for children. Lifegaurds are on site all day during July and August. There are numerous water sports available on the Blackwater River, and you can rent a boat and go shark fishing and whale watching. Go mackerel fishing off the pier in Youghal (last year we were picking them out with our hands).
The area is a paradise for walkers/hikers in the nearby Knockmealdown and Comeragh mountains. Finally, at the end of the day, which may have been as hectic or as relaxed as you wanted it, relax and have a guinness in one of the many traditional pubs, take in the atmosphere of a real Irish music session, and wonder to yourself whether God could have improved on this place.
