Perfect Thanksgiving Retreat!
Perfect Thanksgiving Retreat!

We have had the pleasure of visiting Bear Lake Reserve twice now to celebrate a small family Thanksgiving. This year, we chose to stay at the Cedar Cliff Lodge, and couldn't have been more pleased with our accommodations. The home is warm, comfortable and idealy located in our opinion, with lots of privacy and close to the front entrance. My husband, two children (ages 11 and 12) and our 2 dogs all enjoyed 3 nights at Cedar Cliff Lodge. There was plenty of room for us all, and my mom even came to visit for Thanksgiving Day and stayed the night since one of the rooms has a trundle my children shared. We had preordered a Thanksgiving feast from the Bear Lake Lodge, which we picked up on Thanksgiving Day. Everything was splendidly prepared and delicious and with the house being plentifully stocked with serving dishes, wine glasses, placemats, and such, we were able to set the perfect rustic table for all of us to enjoy a hasselfree and memorable Thanksgiving. It couldn't have been more relaxing and wonderful! We especially appreciated the professional and courteous dealings with the property contact, who was seamless in getting us reserved, sending directions and any additional assistance we needed. In fact, having returned home and finding I had left an important item behind, he contacted someone on property to retreive it and mail it back to me! That's going over and beyond in my opinion! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this rental property for your next family vacation. We're hoping to visit during the summer when we can utilize more of the Lodges' facilities, i.e., the pool, lake, outdoor amphitheater, etc. But, there is still plenty to do in the off-season months. The hiking is grand, and there are fishing ponds and many outdoor fireplaces to sit and enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature. Thank you for another wonderful memory of Thanksgiving at Bear Creek Lodge! Look forward to our return.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

This home was lovely and well-appointed. Very comfortable and perfect for my husband and I, 2 children, and one dog. So close to the stocked fish pond too. We were very satisfied and love Bear Lake as a whole. We would definitely recommend this house.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

This was our first trip to Bear Lake Reserve and Cedar Cliff Lodge and hopefully not the last. Our family of 5 (my wife, 8 and 10 year old children and our 2-year old dog felt like we were in a home away from home. We were greeted by Brandon who works with a few of the property managers at Bear Lake. He oriented us to the house and was quite friendly and enthusiastic about what the Reserve and surrounding area has to offer. The cottage is conveniently located near the entrance to the reserve, which we felt was nice given the enormity of the property. While the drive to the lodge was a bit long (5 miles of windy mountain roads which took about 15 minutes), we only spent two out of the seven days there and mostly took day trips to the surrounding area (whitewater rafting, hike to waterfalls, bicycling and visiting Biltmore Estate). I think we preferred to have an easy way out of the Reserve. The lodge and lake access were actually quite nice as well, however being from out of state, we really wanted to experience as much of North Carolina as possible. We wish we played golf because the course looked spectacular with a very dramatic and pristine setting. The cottage is rustic modern and quite comfortable. Although there were neighbors down the road, you really couldn't see or hear them, and the view off the back porch was serene and private. We had easy access to scenic hiking trails which we explored each morning with the dog (she had a blast). We felt very refreshed after the week which was exactly what we were hoping for!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a great time at Bear Lake Reserve- very comfortable and relaxing. The cottage (it's really a very well done and spacious home) was impeccably clean and has comfy (very tasteful) furnishings and is equipped with everything you need for the week stay. We were two families sharing the house - 4 adults and 3 children - we were very pleased with our stay and had a great time at the beautiful lodge/club house. The house is nicely situated in the community and offered privacy because you don't see the neighboring homes although they are there. Photos of the home are accurate, although, it certainly looks better when you are there. The master bedroom is large and has a great bathroom. Our kids were disappointed that we couldn't connect the XBox to the older tv's that were there (yet we didn't go there for video games!). The trails around the house added a bit of adventure, too, and we saw a fox, turkeys and a fisher (just outside the development). The lodge's pool was excellent, the fitness room surpassed expectations and the lodge's restaurant offered a diverse menu and the food was very good. Cell phone reception was poor but the house (generously) has a phone guests can use. Also, the Guest Cottage at the reserve came to the rescue when we needed a business document to quickly fax. We kept ourselves busy- there is absolutely a ton of things to do. We traveled to many areas: Cherokee, Smoky Mountain Natl Park, Looking Glass waterfall, Asheville, and a little bit of local shopping in Sylva. Dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Cullowhee was surprising good and Tenn is only 90 mins away with endless activities as well. Lastly, the overseers of our trip (the people you book your stay with) run an efficient, smooth and very accommodating operation. On just the 4th day from our departure we also got our security back! This was much appreciated as every other rental stay we attended (and we move around quite a bit) take 3 to 4 weeks.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

This home is even better than described, and the photos don't do it justice. The property is extremely clean and well maintained. When you walk in, it feels like home. The owner has paid attention to every detail. I brought cleaning supplies, extra toilet paper etc. You never know what you will get when renting a vacation home. Everything you could possibly need is there, right down to the marshmallow roasting utencils for the outside fireplace. The furniture and beds are very comfortable. The master bed is like one in a five star resort. We slept like babies. I have rented in bear lake before, and this is by far the nicest home that we have stayed in. I highly recommend it, and can't wait to return.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We always love staying at Bear Lake, but this was special because we were there for our wedding! We rented 12 other cabins with our family and friends, but kept this one for ourselves. It is beautifully furnished and situated in a perfect spot. It was close to our friends/family, but one of the few cabins with no neighbors on either side... so we got a little privacy despite the fact that 70 of our nearest and dearest were close by.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

This was a girl's trip where my best friend and I spent 4 nights in this lovely cottage getting "away from it all" including work, husband and kids. The Reserve is fairly isolated and if you are there to relax it is the perfect place to do just that. I was allowed to bring my little dog with me and she had a great time running around in the open area near the stream at the rear of the home. I especially liked the screened back porch with the fireplace. We built a fire and read books by the fire. The kitchen is well equiped and we found all the pots and pans we needed to make a great clam chowder for our stay. We drove up to Saphire Valley and had dinner at the Gamekeepers Tavern one night but the rest of the time ate at the cabin. The cabin is actually not in Cashiers but Tuckasegee. Cashiers is about 20 minutes away. We did go into Cashiers one day but most of the shops were closed for the season. Highlands, NC had more shops open and I recommend going there for a day trip. The bed in the master is incredibly comfortable and my friend said the second bedroom also had a very comfortable mattress. If you are looking for a relaxing time away from a busy and hectic schedule this is a great place to go and it is an unbelievable beautiful area. We loved the Llahmas on the way in!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Three generations of my family had a great trip to the Jordan cottage! It was a perfect set-up for the five of us and offered a great place to gather at the end of long days enjoying the property. We took advantage of everything the reserve had to offer (golf, pontoon boats, fishing, hiking) and spent our afternoons lounging by the pool. Very nice accommodations!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

About the owner: Hi - We're the Jordan's - cottage owners at Bear Lake. In the attached photo we are enjoying the views from the golf course at Bear Lake Reserve. Not pictured is our Boston Terrier Milo, he ran down a trail and missed the photo! We enjoy our cottage as a place to relax and a base for outdoor expeditions. We hope you will visit our place soon and find your way to enjoy the N.C. mountains.
Why the Owner Chose Tuckasegee:
We live in the Atlanta and wanted a mountain retreat that was far away from the city but a convenient weekend drive. Bear Lake offered great cottage construction, amazing outdoor options and amenities of a resort. Over time we enjoy it even more when we meet our friends who return each year.
