Owner's Map of Maggie Valley
My brothers & my husband had shared a vision of expanding my fathers buffalo ranch when additional property became available to purchase. With all our knowledge & experiences combine we have built 3 log homes & have been renting them out since 2004. All the furniture in this cabin has been handmade by the wood on the property! Even the covered wagon bed, that was custom built my my father. Once my husband retires from the US Army in about 8 yrs our dream will be to build our log cabin on the property & be more hands on. God has blessed us beyond our wildest dreams. We hope you love the mountains like we have all come to love being transplants from a very flat NY!

We had a awesome time...the grandkids (and adult kids) loved the bison, Llamas, ponies and rabbits. The playground was fun too. The cabin was very nice and we had plenty of room with every game imaginable available. The hot tub was superb...my grand daughter and I were the two top contenders for the most times in....LOL Memories made for sure!!!! If I went again I think I would choose the cabin just above us...even more private....a wonderful view too!

My family and I were very happy with Bison Overlook Lodge...I spent the whole week sitting on the back deck watching the Bison roam below. You cant go wrong with this place. The kids really enjoyed all the game tables that were available to them. The kitchen was completely stocked and I had no problems cooking our Thanksgiving dinner right there in the cabin. My brother lives in the area and he and his wife spent the whole week up with us. We had plans to visit him at his place one night for dinner, but did not want to leave the lodge..Thank you Cheryl for the great time!!

Our family, especially the kids, had a really good time at Bison Overlook Lodge. We truly experienced the Great Outdoors at this property. The cabin was very nicely appointed, spacious, cozy, with nice views overlooking the hills. We had 4 kids 5 - 10 years old, and they all had a great time. So much to do ... playing basketball, air hockey, puzzles, shuffleboard, pool ... all in the warm basement. Then, we headed outside to feed the goats, the rabbits, horses, ... they all loved it. We could see the buffalo warming and grazing on the hill a few hundred yards away. We even caught a couple of fish in the small pond on the property. Hiking through the woods to the exclusive playground was also a treat for the kids. At night, we all gathered around a roaring fire in the backyard fire pit, burning plenty of wood provided by Cheryl. The hot tub was okay, and the kids enjoyed it, but it wasn't hot enough, and the water level was low. All in all, the lodge was a great experience, and worth the money, we made a good choice and would recommend it to anyone who has kids who need some outdoor time. You truly have that "middle of nowhere" feel at this lodge. Future tenants need to be aware that to get to the cabin, you have to travel on a dirt/gravel road, and drive up a very steep hill. You don't need a four wheel drive necessarily, but don't go there in a nice car. It was raining when we go there, and our minivan barely made it up. We made some nice memories, and enjoyed a beautiful Autumn weekend in the North Carolina mountains. I recommend visiting nearby Lake Junaluska for a walk, and downtown Waynesville.

This was our second year at the Lodge. During this trip, our children and grandchildren went with us and stayed over the weekend, then my husband and I had the place to ourselves for the rest of the time. The Lodge is great for adults with kids. The basement is stocked with a pool table, shuffle board, ping pong, hoops game, and air hockey. In addition, hiking about the property and feeding the goats, llamas, and rabbits kept everyone happy; the boys ages 8-15 weren't bored for a second. The lodge kitchen is well-stocked with everything you need if you want to cook, or nearby towns have plenty of good restaurants (both popular franchised and family-owned). The rest of the lodge space is appointed so that we feel right at home. There's lots to do and places to go for day excursions; a book is provided in the lodge with pamphlets from area attractions and towns so that we could make plans for each day. We feel especially bonded to the family owners since we have goats too. We shared our stories about raising our animals at each visit. We've gotten llama "kisses" each time. Be aware of a steep hill to the lodge; front-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive is a must. I can't say enough good things about the Lodge or the family members who own it, except to say that I'm sure we will go back next year!

This cabin was in excellent condition and was in a great location. I was impressed by the number of pots, pans, dishes, etc. in the kitchen- there was even a crock pot. There was also a great number of baby items in closet available for our use (highchair, crib, toddler toys, changing table). It really cut down on the # of items we needed to pack. We had farm fresh eggs and bison steaks delivered to our door, and we were minutes away from a farm stand where we bought fresh fruit and veggies. I couldn't have asked for anything more.
Owner response:Dear Jen, So glad you all were able to came to Buffalo Creek, thank you for the kind words! Cheryl

We hhad an amazing week at Bison Overlook!! The kids thoroughly enjoyed all of the animals, the playground, the game room, and the hot tub. We all loved the river...spent hours exploring and skipping rocks... We were fortunate to be able to travel to various attractions in the western part of the state! The Linville Caverns and Rafting were our favorites!! The cabin itself was terrific...everything we needed was there! Thanks for a wonderful visit...we'll be back to the mountains soon!!

A perfect family getaway; you're heading to the Smokies -- yet everything is within reach - Cataloochee, Gatlinburg, Asheville, Pigeon Forge, and a lot more. My kids loved playing with goats, bunnies are quite entertaining; there's a wonderful hidden playground; mighty bison are very impressive. Thank you Cheryl for a wonderful opportunity to get close to the nature!

My husband, 2 daughters (10 & 6), mother, aunt & myself stayed at Bison Overlook Lodge in April. We had not seen my aunt in 4 years & this was a wonderful place to catch up & make memories. My kids were so excited to see all the animals, buffalo, goats, horses, mini horses, bunnies & more. They also loved the playground. The cabin was beautiful & a great place to relax after our days out. The area were the cabin is located is lovely & it is easy to get to highways for our sightseeing & white water rafting trips. We would love to stay here again.

Our family of 5 had a great time at Bison Overlook Lodge. We have 2 small children & even brougt our dog. There was plenty to do, from feeding the goats to playing in the gameroom. The playground was a nice diversion too, but we most enjoyed exploring the property around the cabin. Our days there started with a wlkd down the driveway to tell the Bison good morning. We hope to go back one day!
