Great time for the family

Guest: Christina (Charlotte, NC)
Date of Stay: 04/05/12 Review Submitted: 04/16/12

We had a wonderful time at the lodge. The animals were friendly and gave the kids something to do. They loved how they would just walk up to the cabin. The only down side was that the pool table is in a hard spot to play. Was afraid of marking up the walls and we could never get the hot tub hot enough to sit in and enjoy. Other than that... everything was great. We will be going back again.

Owner response:Dear Christina, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am glad you all enjoyed your stay. I am very sorry to hear that the hot tub didn't get hot while you were there, I wasn't aware of it until the next guest called us. We have had it repaired & I will be happy to refund your hot tub fee of $50. You will see the credit shortly. We would love to have you as our guest again at Buffalo Creek. Sincerely, Cheryl Hillis

We Loved This Place!!!!

Date of Stay: 03/25/12 Review Submitted: 04/11/12

Hello!! We just came back from our girls' spring break from March 25-29th and we stayed here at Bison Overlook!! Let me first state that the pictures does NOT justify just how beautiful this place is really like!! My girls loved to go feed and look at the animals every morning when they would get up and we just enjoyed the very clean, nice cabin!! We definitely had enough room for us 4 plus our dog! We enjoyed the game room and hot tub every night!! On the last day we got to meet the owners parents--super nice and the girls even both got to ride the miniature horses!! They just made our trip extra special!! We also enjoyed the Pigeon River. Cheryl was very great to work with, answered all my questions and just great overall to deal with:) We would definitely come back and stay here-maybe around the Fall time!! We also enjoyed going into downtown Waynesville and Cataloochee to see the Elks!! Thanks, again for such Great service and this is a very beautiful place!! Loved all the craftsmanship that your brothers, father and friends have done!! Very, very Nice!!

Owner response:Dear Michael & Bonnie, Thank you for your wonderful remarks from your stay. I am so glad you all had such a terrific time. Please let the girls know that Dixie, (the gray mini horse) just had a baby this week! We were very surprised! It looks kind of like Ranger Dan (the daddy :). Would love to have you back again! Cheryl

Bachelor Party!

Guest: Matt (Birmingham, Alabama)
Date of Stay: 03/16/12 Review Submitted: 03/28/12

I brought a group of 9 guys to the lodge for a bachelor party. This cabin couldn't have been more perfect for our group! There is literally nothing that this cabin doesn't have. Nothing like sitting in the hot tub and seeing every star the galaxy has to offer. Waking up and looking out the back to see a hillside full of Bison. It really was everything I expected and more! We definitely want to reserve another trip to Bison Overlook Lodge very soon!

Owner response:Thanks Matt for the nice review..glad you all had fun!! Hope you all have a great time at the wedding!

Bison Overlook was absolutely beautiful! The cabin is very spacious, clean, well furnished and very kid friendly! Our children had so much fun exploring and hiking around the cabin and petting the miniature horses and goats. They also enjoyed watching the Buffalo and Llamas. We all had a great time in the game rooms and in the hot tub! Mrs. Hillis was very nice and very quick to respond to all of my questions. I will definitely be vacationing at Bison Overlook again!

Owner response:Thanks Stephanie, glad you all enjoyed your stay!! I really appreciate your comments..look forward to having you all at the ranch again.

Great Mountain Retreat!

Guest: Shannon Lambert (Marietta, GA)
Date of Stay: 02/17/12 Review Submitted: 02/23/12

We had a great time at Bison Overlook Lodge. There was plenty of room for 2 families (4 adults and 3 children). The basedment was a hit with the kids and adults too, with a pool table, ping pong, shuffle board and basketball. The back deck had a great view of the vast land and the animals roaming. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub after we put the kids to bed. The kids throughly enjoyed the hot tub as well! The location was great and I couldn't get enough of the mountain views and watching the bison, goats, ponies, and llamas roam the land. The fire pit outside was a nice area to relax around the fire and make smores. I defiantely recommend this place for your next mountain exercusion. Cheryl was great to work with and answered any questions that we had.

We had a awesome time...the grandkids (and adult kids) loved the bison, Llamas, ponies and rabbits. The playground was fun too. The cabin was very nice and we had plenty of room with every game imaginable available. The hot tub was superb...my grand daughter and I were the two top contenders for the most times in....LOL Memories made for sure!!!! If I went again I think I would choose the cabin just above us...even more private....a wonderful view too!

My family and I were very happy with Bison Overlook Lodge...I spent the whole week sitting on the back deck watching the Bison roam below. You cant go wrong with this place. The kids really enjoyed all the game tables that were available to them. The kitchen was completely stocked and I had no problems cooking our Thanksgiving dinner right there in the cabin. My brother lives in the area and he and his wife spent the whole week up with us. We had plans to visit him at his place one night for dinner, but did not want to leave the lodge..Thank you Cheryl for the great time!!

A fun mountain experience

Guest: SPY 1 (Cartersville, GA)
Date of Stay: 10/28/11 Review Submitted: 11/01/11

Our family, especially the kids, had a really good time at Bison Overlook Lodge. We truly experienced the Great Outdoors at this property. The cabin was very nicely appointed, spacious, cozy, with nice views overlooking the hills. We had 4 kids 5 - 10 years old, and they all had a great time. So much to do ... playing basketball, air hockey, puzzles, shuffleboard, pool ... all in the warm basement. Then, we headed outside to feed the goats, the rabbits, horses, ... they all loved it. We could see the buffalo warming and grazing on the hill a few hundred yards away. We even caught a couple of fish in the small pond on the property. Hiking through the woods to the exclusive playground was also a treat for the kids. At night, we all gathered around a roaring fire in the backyard fire pit, burning plenty of wood provided by Cheryl. The hot tub was okay, and the kids enjoyed it, but it wasn't hot enough, and the water level was low. All in all, the lodge was a great experience, and worth the money, we made a good choice and would recommend it to anyone who has kids who need some outdoor time. You truly have that "middle of nowhere" feel at this lodge. Future tenants need to be aware that to get to the cabin, you have to travel on a dirt/gravel road, and drive up a very steep hill. You don't need a four wheel drive necessarily, but don't go there in a nice car. It was raining when we go there, and our minivan barely made it up. We made some nice memories, and enjoyed a beautiful Autumn weekend in the North Carolina mountains. I recommend visiting nearby Lake Junaluska for a walk, and downtown Waynesville.

Our stay Sept 22-29, 2011

Guest: Smith-Wall Farms (Wendell, NC, USA)
Date of Stay: 09/22/11 Review Submitted: 10/05/11

This was our second year at the Lodge. During this trip, our children and grandchildren went with us and stayed over the weekend, then my husband and I had the place to ourselves for the rest of the time. The Lodge is great for adults with kids. The basement is stocked with a pool table, shuffle board, ping pong, hoops game, and air hockey. In addition, hiking about the property and feeding the goats, llamas, and rabbits kept everyone happy; the boys ages 8-15 weren't bored for a second. The lodge kitchen is well-stocked with everything you need if you want to cook, or nearby towns have plenty of good restaurants (both popular franchised and family-owned). The rest of the lodge space is appointed so that we feel right at home. There's lots to do and places to go for day excursions; a book is provided in the lodge with pamphlets from area attractions and towns so that we could make plans for each day. We feel especially bonded to the family owners since we have goats too. We shared our stories about raising our animals at each visit. We've gotten llama "kisses" each time. Be aware of a steep hill to the lodge; front-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive is a must. I can't say enough good things about the Lodge or the family members who own it, except to say that I'm sure we will go back next year!

Guest: Jen (Savannah, GA)
Date of Stay: 07/17/11 Review Submitted: 07/24/11

This cabin was in excellent condition and was in a great location. I was impressed by the number of pots, pans, dishes, etc. in the kitchen- there was even a crock pot. There was also a great number of baby items in closet available for our use (highchair, crib, toddler toys, changing table). It really cut down on the # of items we needed to pack. We had farm fresh eggs and bison steaks delivered to our door, and we were minutes away from a farm stand where we bought fresh fruit and veggies. I couldn't have asked for anything more.

Owner response:Dear Jen, So glad you all were able to came to Buffalo Creek, thank you for the kind words! Cheryl

A perfect family getaway; you're heading to the Smokies -- yet everything is within reach - Cataloochee, Gatlinburg, Asheville, Pigeon Forge, and a lot more. My kids loved playing with goats, bunnies are quite entertaining; there's a wonderful hidden playground; mighty bison are very impressive. Thank you Cheryl for a wonderful opportunity to get close to the nature!

My husband, 2 daughters (10 & 6), mother, aunt & myself stayed at Bison Overlook Lodge in April. We had not seen my aunt in 4 years & this was a wonderful place to catch up & make memories. My kids were so excited to see all the animals, buffalo, goats, horses, mini horses, bunnies & more. They also loved the playground. The cabin was beautiful & a great place to relax after our days out. The area were the cabin is located is lovely & it is easy to get to highways for our sightseeing & white water rafting trips. We would love to stay here again.

Our family of 5 had a great time at Bison Overlook Lodge. We have 2 small children & even brougt our dog. There was plenty to do, from feeding the goats to playing in the gameroom. The playground was a nice diversion too, but we most enjoyed exploring the property around the cabin. Our days there started with a wlkd down the driveway to tell the Bison good morning. We hope to go back one day!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful cabin and farm with our family for Christmas. We had a wonderful time! While only 4 adults stayed at the cabin, 4 more family members meet us there for Christmas dinner. Your kitchen was more than equipped to handle the big meal including baking dishes, roasting pans, and serving pieces. We really enjoyed your taking the time to decorate for the holidays too. We put all our gifts under your tree and lit a fire in the fireplace and had a very cozy eve together. We enjoyed a walk on the farm, meeting all the animals and petting Ranger Dan. The hot tub was such a relief after a full day of family and cooking and fun. We couldn't have asked for more! Thanks again for making our holiday one to remember. We would whole heartedly book with you again. The Paynes

The Cabin had everything we needed for the stay,We made use of all the toys and games, pool table, Sat TV and WiFi. The grocery store is a quick 15min drive away. My son loved the animals and the playground. We went for a ride on the Polar Express in Bryson City and spent a day at the Biltmore in Ashville, both less than an hour drive from the cabin. We are planning another visit for the summer and can't wait for another stay.

We really enjoyed our weekend at Bison Lodge. The Clackett family was so friendly and it was nice that our kids had some other kids to play with a couple hours. They absolutely loved getting to walk the horses, feed the goats and see the bunnies. The cabin was very spacious for our family- views are great from the deck and to see the sunset on the other side is a short walk up the drive towards the other rental. There were plenty of activities around the area, but we never left the property. It has everything a family would need- indoor and out. The basement with pool table, air hockey and ping pong and the playground was a hit!

Cheryl, Our family can only all be together maybe once a year and this was a wonderful place to be together. Your kitchen is the best stocked kitchen we have ever been in! Big enough pans for the 8 of us. A big part of getting together is eating you know. Your bison were cool but the goats won our hearts. One day we had to follow one up the hill, he wasn't the least bit concerned with us behind him. WE LAUGHED SO HARD! Your hot tub is an excellent place to look at the night sky. No town lights and so many stars! And the cabin was decorated for Christmas so nicely. Your location is great also, close to town and highway for our day trips. We all had 4 wheel drive but maybe a little more rock on the road would be great! We had plenty of room to play video games, put together a puzzle, eat, play guitars, play pool, take naps, read books, lay around, sit on the deck/porch and take long walks down the road. Thanks Cheryl

And leaving the windows open to feel the cool breaze was awesome too! Your property is beautiful, all the friendly anamials to the wonderful waterfalls all around...and if thats not enough, I loved the views from the patio...would love to have a house in the area 6 months a year, and it would definately be just like yours......Thank you all....for everything, we couldn't have asked for a more relaxing wonderful time.....

Cheryl, I cannot thank you enough for having us in the Bison Overlook Lodge, Heather could not have had a better birthday. We were sitting around the kitchen table trying to find a way to not go home. We truly fell in love with the decor so much that Heather now wants a log cabin to live in. Your parents stopped by for a quick hello and happy birthday and dropped off a dozen fresh eggs, which were wonderful by the way, and they also invited us to attend church on Sunday(sorry we didn't make it). We went after snow and we actually got a few flurries. We learned a few things while we were there, my truck went up the hills just fine, but my next one will be a 4x4, Ranger Dan is not a man, one of the goats HAS to be pregnant, the stars are much brighter and we felt closer to God than ever. The view is definately intoxicating and I enjoyed waking up and hearing a rooster crowing. One of our best vacations ever.

Thanks for an awesome vacation! My two girls, two nieces, and my nephew loved the playground, animals, and nature! They named each goat, loved “Ranger Dan”, and were a maze by the Bison! Oh yea the dogs also! We are full of hot dogs and smores roasted by the fire… we felt like we could touch the stars! My in-laws and I enjoyed the amazing views, and I loved my walks around the property. Hot tub used many, many times! The perfect fall vacation. We hated leaving the last two the clogging competition in Maggie Valley spoiled by the beauty of nature!

Thank you for sharing this lovely retreat with us. The Buffalo put on a show for us and the goats are charming. We spent most of our time on the blues ridge parkway and except for a small mishap with the motorcycle, we had a memorable time. We would love to visit again. Best wishes.

We enjoyed this "like new" cabin very much. The bison view was great. The kids loved the playground and feeding the goats. The cabin decor was beautiful and exactly what we were looking for..... the approach was a bit steep, but our mini-van made it with a running start. Thanks for the memories we will be back.

Thank you for a great place to vacation, this is much better then a B&B, an infinately better then a motel room. All the animals kept us entertain while we stayed around the cabin & the playground was a winner! But it was the Bison that got us here. I did not know there was a Bison Ranch in NC! I thought I had to go outwest to see them--this is too cool. I love the mountains, & this is just one more reason to come back as often as possible.

Thank you for renting the cabin to us. We had a wonderful time. It is so peaceful & relaxing: we enjoyed dailey visits from the goats & Ranger Dan as well as the hot tub & swings out fronch on the porch were enjoyed a lot.

To Buffalo Creek, This place is a great respite from the pressures of 21st living. Leave the blackberry at home & just enjoy the surroundings. P.S., the castle across the valley looks original to 1,150 ad!

The lodge exceeded our expectations upon arrival. Modern but still comfy lodge, no red and green plaid in sight! Our girls loved being next to the goats and miniature pony. We enjoyed staying on the property and exploring, didn't have to go anywhere to enjoy ourselves. The host family was warm and helpful, including the fresh egss! Very convenient to groceries and anything you need - Maggie Valley, Asheville, Waynesville. The game room was great and the hot tub, too. We brought our dog who was in hound heaven! A perfect place for a family getaway whether you want to stay put or see the sights.
