Location: Domme, Aquitaine, France, Europe (80 kms from International Airport of Bergerac)
Accommodations: Village House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.25 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)
Situated in the very heart of one of the most beautiful villages in France, lies a hidden gem, Les Rosiers. A unique 15th Century stone house that has been beautifully restored to provide very comfortable holiday accommodation for eight people.
Bought as a ruin in 1995, we discovered amongst our excavations remnants of a secret underground tunnel that is reputed to have connected with other tunnels under the village during what is known as the 100 year war (but was actually 116 years) in the years 1337 to 1453. The remnants of this tunnel have been preserved to create the access to the fabulous four poster bedroom. The house itself it believed to date from sometime in the 15th Century; records are scarce, and this supposition is purely based on a local historian's wealth of knowledge.
Les Rosiers is situated on the town walls and we have also preserved the 11th Century arrow slit complete with stone seats at the bottom of the garden. This unique feature makes the recreation of the historical events that this tiny hilltop town has endured that much more imaginable. We have aimed to provide the very best in home comfort at Les Rosiers, and our policy of providing whatever it is that you find is missing in order to make your holiday complete is sincere.
We provide all the house linen, including pool towels so you don't have to worry about bringing anything other than your personal possessions.
The kitchen is fully equipped for those amongst you who like to indulge in the French Art of Cooking. The living areas, outside and in, are cosy, comfortable and a pleasure to unwind and relax in. The mattresses are all comfortable, the bed linen crisp and pretty. Soft, thick bath towels adorn the bathrooms. In the cooler months, you will arrive to find the heating on and the wood burner burning merrily in the lounge area. At all times of the year, there will be a chilled bottle of white wine in the fridge alongside orange juice, spring water and strawberry biscuits.
For our younger guests, there is everything provided upon request free of charge: stroller, changing mat, crib, bedding, baby listening device, toys, books, play pen, high chair, baby bouncer etc. If what you need is not visible on the list above then let me know and I shall make sure that it is there waiting for your youngest loved one upon arrival at Les Rosiers. For our teenage guests, having a few of them ourselves, we understand the need to provide a DVD player and a VHS alongside a choice of hundreds of films (VHS format). The accessibility of the village of Domme makes is ideal for adolescents as they can wander off to their hearts content. There is even the possibility of walking down to Cenac (a short stroll) to Kayak or Canoe on the river Dordogne and float gently past the 1001 Chateaux that adorn this valley. There is a tennis court in the village, a train that does sightseeing tours, underground caves, bars that stay open late and wonderful attractions such as paint balling (this involves stalking other humans with a gun that shoots coloured paint pellets) and the possibility of playing Tarzan in one of the Air Parcs (not for the faint hearted mind you!).
The house consists of the following. Upon arrival, you access the house through a beautiful oak door into the hallway that has access to the garden. To the right of this door is the first bedroom; the triple bedroom with one single bed and bunk beds. Decorated prettily in blue with matching bedding. Along the secret tunnel to the Four Poster bedroom. A fabulous room with exposed stone walls and an adjoining shower room with toilet and sink. This room has its own back door into the garden and the swimming pool. Up the stone stairs to the first floor where there is a separate toilet. Here is the main room of the house, the gorgeous kitchen/diner. Off down from here is the living room with soft comfortable furniture, a wood burning stove and entertainment, also a table for playing cards writing letters.
The stairs from the living room lead to the thrid floor where you will find the single bedroom and also the 2nd double bedroom with ensuite bathroom.
