We had a great time at the cottage. The interior is really charming with lots of clever craftsmanship using natural timbers. The kitchen is small but well laid out and has good, up to date, appliances. Everything was very clean and well maintained. There are plenty of places to sleep - 2 lofts, sleeping porch, living room and bed room - but, except for the bedroom, they are all pretty much open to each other, and the stairs to the lofts are quite steep. It was the outside that we really loved! We spent most of our time on the back porch or in the pond. The dock and the steps leading into the water make for great swimming and kayaking and the cottage is situated on one of the prettiest parts of the pond.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Our Family Vacations usually consist of Me and My Husband, our daughter, and Houston, the furry human, who's really a dog. Sometimes it's not easy finding places that consist of entertainment for the family, beautiful scenic sights and a place where the dog will feel comfortable being left alone for an hour or two a day. So we rent cabins for this convience. This place was pretty close to perfect for a cabin. Sure the kitchen was a little small, and the shower was on the petite side also, but what cabin's isn't. The sitting area is extremely large and the dining area is very well maintained. I was thrilled to be sleeping on a queen bed (all the other cabin we rented were doubles), just that little extra difference makes for a good nights sleep. (Do I sound like a Serta commercial?) The lofts are adorable, and would be enjoyed by any teenager or young adult. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck every morning with our coffee looking out at the pond and spotting wildlife. We seen eagle's daily, chipmunks were aplently, and if you wanted to fish, all you had to do was sit on the dock before 9 in the morning and they were all around you. We took the kayaks out a few times...we found this to be great fun, it was our first experience with them. Of course Acadia is a must. And driving along the coastlines are just amazing. Also try a Windjammer Cruise, it's very relaxing. There were some pretty good local diners..we tried the Union River Lobster Pot and also Ruth & Wimpys Restaurant. And not to forget the local ice cream parlors that serve some wonderful "Wild Blueberry" ice cream. The owner's stayed just two cabins down and were always helpful whenever needed. Not only were they pleasant and helpful, but extremely friendly and likeable people. They kept maps of the area and flyers of local attractions in the cabin for you. Plus they suggested local diners and shopping, and points of interest for sight seeing. We had an extremely good time saying here and would recommend it to our friends and family. Carlton and Rachael Thanks for a Wonderful Time.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, families with young children, adventure seekers.

We just completed our week's stay at the cabin this morning. I immediately thought about the need to write a review to thank the owners, and let other people know what a great place George's Pond and the Red Cabin are. The other reviews so far are all spot on. The cabin is definitely rustic, but also well equipped. There was always plenty of hot water, and the place was very clean. There were plenty of clean linens and towels. My daughter loved staying up in the loft. We kayaked out to the islands frequently and observed bald eagles hunting! You can also kayak or drive to a sizable beach on the other side of the pond that is ideal for kids (although you can swim from the dock). The owners came by on kayak twice to make sure everything was perfect. They were eager to point out the best attractions and dining destinations. We mentioned that we were out of gas for the large grill on the rear deck, and it was replaced inside 15 minutes. If you are looking for a traditional Maine cabin experience, this place will not disappoint. We will be back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

What a special place! We stayed at the George’s Pond Cabin for a week and enjoyed every second. The location, just steps away from the pond, was perfect for kayaking, canoeing, swimming and just sitting on the porch listening to the loons. There are other cabins nearby and they were occupied the first few nights of our stay but we still felt secluded and noise was not an issue. A nearby long, winding dirt road was ideal for walking the dog and observing wildlife. The fireplace was the perfect remedy for the chilly September evenings, and only added to the cozy ambience. The cabin is centrally located a short 25 minute drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, although we enjoyed the cabin so much that we only ventured out a few days. The owners are very hospitable and accessible should you have a question or concern during your stay. Thank you for a wonderful vacation, it was the best we have ever had!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/3

What a wonderful time we had. The cabin is a bit rustic and the kitchen is small but functional. The cabin was well equipped with all the necessities and clean. We saw bald eagles every day and spent our days on the water, swimming, canoeing, kayaking. We woke up each morning with a view of the pond. George's Pond is well located and an easy drive to Ellsworth. The location and access is great. The best part is the quite. It was a very relaxing week and we just loved it. There is a huge rock past the dock you can swim to a sit on. It is a few inches under the water and flat. You can walk on it. The water was warm and there is a sandy area right off the stairs. Thank you for a great time.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/2

This was our first week at the cabin and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. It can be tough finding a nice cabin that is pet friendly so it was great to have found this place. The fireplace was wonderful as some of our evenings were a bit damp - it took the chill right out of the air. Very private as the camp is at the end of a driveway. You can see other camps but there was no one occupying those on either side of us the entire duration of our stay. Listened to the loons every night and had bald eagles or osprey in a tree next to the camp every day. Great lake to canoe and/or kayak as there was not a lot of motor boat traffic. Plenty of room for guests. Master bedroom was cozy but would have liked to have a bit more room to store our clothes. You really can't go wrong with this camp. ENJOY!Did you find this review helpful? I just wanted to add, as the guest who wrote to the camp owner in the 8/30/07 comment, my husband and I are still talking about how what great a time we all had. As the oldest child will be a senior this year and the next right behind, we know family vacations will become few and far between. Our time on Georges Pond will for sure be a time we all look back on with fond memories. Hopefully we get to return with the youngest for many more, as he is determined to get the fish his brother let "get away". Thank you again.Did you find this review helpful? We wanted to thank you both for the great vacation we enjoyed in your cabin! My husband and I were previous business owners and spent the past few years unable to truly enjoy time off, never mind relax. We not only had a fun and relaxing vacation, but we have added a lake home onto our goal list. The house was perfect for the kids as well. They loved the paddle boating, fishing and swimming. Even the dog had her "sea legs" by the third day. The back roads gave them an adventure ride or two and it just all provided a great family time, which can be difficult with 2 teens and our 10 year old and his friend. Its the first time in a while Ive seen the 15 year old spend so much time with his brother. The location is close enough to the park and other tourist places so you can do things without spending hours driving, but also when you hear the loons at 10 pm you feel like you are far far away. The stars, satellites, and shooting stars brought us out every night and the fireplace warmed us after that. We cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner on the grill which was great. And at the end of the day or on that one rainy afternoon, the tv/cable gave the kids something to do as they brought brought playstation along "just incase". We all slept like babies in the beds and bedding you provided. My husband and I run a little hotter than the kids, but once they snuggled in the were out until late morning. Even Adam (almost 16) slept on the porch, which would be typically unlike him, slept through sunrises right into late morning. So, again thank you very much for a great time.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/2
