Vintage Beach Cottage is an immaculate and well-maintained one-bedroom cottage just steps away from the shore in the enchanting neighborhood of Puako. Just cross the quiet road to watch turtles resting on the warm sand and dolphins and whales frolicking offshore, followed by vibrant beach sunsets each evening. Ideal for a couple or single looking for total relaxation, the cottage is delightfully decorated in vintage-look Hawaiian fabrics, Hawaiian art, shells and surfboards. A brief stroll away, the Puako General Store offers charming local hospitality. Meet the owners or talk story with neighbors while enjoying a cool beverage, a refreshing ice cream bar, or selecting a movie to watch after the sun goes down.
This cozy one bedroom/one bathroom home rests on grounds that are well-maintained, private and peaceful. The lush green lawn is fenced for undisturbed enjoyment of a hammock to nap or lounge with your favorite book. Shower off after the beach in a wonderful garden shower surrounded by the lovely scents of stephanotis and jasmine. Begin your mornings with a cup of coffee in the covered-lanai garden with ocean view. Dine indoors or out, at the shell-inlaid table in the dining nook or under the stars on the lanai. Drift off to a restful sleep with ocean breezes and the soft scent of pakalana flowing through the French doors of the master bedroom.
The living area, with adjacent kitchen and dining nook, is decorated with vintage rattan and custom-made furnishings, Hawaiian fabrics, Hawaiian art and resource library. Details throughout include koa wood cabinetry, vintage wood floors, custom wood paneling, live orchids and houseplants. The kitchen is equipped with stainless-steel appliances, gourmet cookware, spices, tea and coffee and an assortment of picnic/beach gear.
This cottage boasts a comfortable, colorful bedroom with covered lanai (patio), king-size bed and the added advantage of air conditioning. A full bath with tub/shower combination is easily accessible midway between the bedroom and kitchen. The laundry room is conveniently located near the kitchen.

Immaculate would be an understatement. It's the cleanest and most orderly/attractive rental we have ever stayed in. The cottage is 5 minutes by car from a great snorkeling beach (Waialea Bay Beach), 10 minutes from a really cool restaurant/music venue (Blue Dragon in Kawaihae Harbor) and close to other nice beaches and resort areas. Puako is VERY quiet, so you do have to drive to get to shopping and dining out, but we thought the low-key vibe of the town was relaxing. There is a small general store in Puako for basic grocery items, sunscreen, etc. We would definitely come back to this rental.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+.

This is an oasis for a couple. It is located off the Kohala resort track but the resort beaches and facilities are easily accessed by foot or car. The cottage is imacculate and reflects the love and care of the owners. It is light and beezy with a gourmet kitchen and all the ammenities. The outdoor shower is a treasure. Puako beach road can be noisy at times but that is quickly overhwhelmed by the beauty and peaceful energy that infuses the cottage.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

My husband and I just returned from 3 weeks on the Island of Hawaii, two of which we spent at the Vintage Beach Cottage at Puako. We can not say enough good things about our stay. The cottage and grounds are so beautifully maintained. Everything is super clean, well stocked and furnished very comfortably. Some highlights include the wonderfully comfortable bed and bedding, plush towels (we used exclusively at the outdoor shower which is a delight!), high end cookware and appliances, terrific sound system, great grill and hammock. The cottage and grounds are very private. You have a very short walk to the well stocked general store and only need to cross the street for shoreline access. Most evenings we would grab the beach chairs provided, along with our freshly made tropical drink, head across the street, find a nice spot to watch the turtles and look for whales through our binocs and watch the sunset. We had daily sightings of multiple turtles, and a couple nights of whale sightings with multiple breachings. Another great feature of staying in Puako is the short drive to great beaches, golf, dining and shopping. Mahalo Cynthia, we will be back! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. The term "immaculate" is understated. The house is even dusted and thoroughly cleaned on the exterior!!!! The property is lovingly maintained and features so many surprising personal touches. The throw pillows, couch cushions, bedding, cabinetry, interior/exterior painting, fencing/gate...and the list can go on, are all custom designed and made by the owners of the property. The telling is in the details, and the posted pictures cannot possibly show how quaint and cute it all is! As innkeepers, Cynthia and John have anticipated and provided for their guest's every need. This is a lovely cottage, located very close to Puako Beach, secluded, peaceful, and simply a wonderful place to call home for the next couple of weeks. We're already planning to be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+.

The cottage was perfectly suited for my solo get-away. Private, clean, well-equipped, and safe, with helpful manager and owner nearby if I needed anything. I have recommended the cottage to friends and family. The listing description was spot on and the amenities even better than expected -- beach chairs, snorkel equipment, towels, coolers etc. I walked along the nearby tide pools, enjoyed the nearby 69 Beach for day outings (and the Mauna Kea beach too), loved the horse riding at Dahana Ranch in the Waimea up-country, and even drove down to Kailua-Kona for a night out. Got a pedicure at the Waikoloa resort's queen shops. The little store on Puako Road was just a few doors down when I needed a bandaid or more juice, and the Foodland store near the Mauna Lani was great for picking up groceries on way from airport to check-in. Of course, there was the larger stores in Waimea when I wanted natural foods or larger selections. It was just the peaceful experience I needed! Thanks to the manager Mary for letting me store some things at her office and then use the shower after a last day at the beach before catching the red-eye home.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

This cottage was wonderful!! What a great place! After a long flight from SC, we were greated by Mary (Two Papayas) and Cynthia (owner) with two chilled cloths from the freezer and given a tour of this immaculate cottage and yard. The bathroom and outdoor shower were graciously stocked with an assortment of soaps, shampoos, conditioners, etc. and the kitchen had just about everything you'd need to do meal preparations. There were also beach towels, coolers, hats, first aid supplies, etc. The cottage was so neat and clean it looked as if it had just been redone. Great place to spend a peaceful, memorable vacation.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

This was the perfect place for my wife and I to stay--close to good beaches, easy and convenient. As a carpenter, I appreciated the attention to detail, use of native and recycled woods and the fine craftsmanship. It had exactly what we needed from coffee grinder to beach chairs. Everything was top quality, clean and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower, barbeque, and easy parking for our rental car (you do need a car) . In the evening we would take our drinks and walk across the street to watch the turtles and sunset. Close to Hapuna Beach and Beach 69. We'd definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

My husband and I stayed in the Vintage Cottage for 10 day over June/July. This is our 4th visit to the Big Island, but our first time staying in Puako. We will never stay outside of this fabulous little community again. The area itself is quiet, made up mostly of local residents. There are several great beach access points along the road that offer wonderful sunsets and turtle watching. The Vintage cottage was the perfect place for us to stay. The house itself is adorable, very thoughtfully furnished, impeccably clean, and outfitted with everything you could possibly need. We made wonderful meals daily in the well equipped kitchen, slept peacefully every night in the comfortable king sized bed. And the best part was coming home from a great day at the beach and showering off in the outdoor shower. It was fully stocked with delicious smelling products like coconut & mango shampoo's. We never even used the indoor tub or shower. The experience was grand, and was a daily treat. We have found our new "place to stay" on the Big Island. We look forward to returning again next year! Thank you Cynthia & John for providing us with the perfect place to rest and relax. Mahalo!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Our time at the Vintage Beach Cottage was delightful! This place was just what we wanted for a peaceful, relaxing and quiet place away from the ratrace of every day life. I would recommend this cottage to any couple. The furnishings are so beautiful and every detail is taken care of by the owners. Would like to pick this property up and fly it home to the lake in Mississippi!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.
