Rome Vacation

Guest: Elizabeth (Chicago, IL)
Date of Stay: 05/06/12 Review Submitted: 05/16/12

I recently stayed here in Trastevere for a week. This was a wonderful condo in a great location. I could not have asked for better accommodations. The condo was well kept, clean & very close to public transportation. The Condo was filled with all amenities & actually made you feel that you lived there in lieu of being on vacation. Barb was amazing & very helpful, the condo had a great bulletin board with ideas & places to eat. I can't wait to plan another trip here & would recommend this to anyone who asked.

Rental in Trastere 2012

Date of Stay: 04/20/12 Review Submitted: 05/13/12

My cousin and I rented this lovely apartment for 2 weeks beginiing on the 21st of April, 2012. The apartment was very clean, comfortable and in a wonderful location in Trastevere. We took public transportation the entire time we were in Rome. We even visited the Etruscan sites by using public transportation. The food was delicious anywhere we went; I don't think one can have a bad meal in Italy!!

Perfect for three adults

Guest: Starr (Las Vegas, NV)
Date of Stay: 10/15/11 Review Submitted: 11/08/11

I recently spent three weeks at this property and found the location, facilities, and owner's assistance to be perfect for my needs. The location made use of public transportation, buses and tram, very easy as the apartment is only a block or two from the stops. Once on the tram/bus and across the Tiber River, only 5-7 min., all of the major sites of historic Rome were within walking distance. The Metro is not close to the apartment, but that was no problem as the buses/tram were even easier. Since the apartment is owned by an American, it had all the appliances, furniture, etc., I wanted. The rooms are not enormous, except the master bedroom, but they are larger than most Rome rentals and fine for our needs. Beds, linens, pots/pans, etc., were plentiful. The only disappointment, and it is a small one, is the washer/dryer combination does not really work on the dryer mode, so clothes had to be hung out or taken to the corner to the laundry. Finally, the owner made everything, from initial inquiries, to a friendly call upon my arrival clear, precise, and truthful. I never felt I was on my own as the caretaker is in the same building. Trastavere is a friendly, safe, interesting area of Rome, and living there in such close proximity to the historical area made my three weeks' stay very, very enjoyable.

Rome Holiday 2011

Guest: Sister (shakopee, mn)
Date of Stay: 06/05/11 Review Submitted: 07/05/11

Convenient location to the train, buses and taxi stand. There were many neighborhood shops to choose from. Within walking distance to all that Rome had to offer. Quiet building and gracious caretakers. The only thing that may not be up-to-date is the beautiful park that was to be outside the balcony. This is now under construction and will soon be an apartment complex or some sort of building. The view will no longer be there, unfortunately. All in all this was a good accommodation for sleeping. The bulletin board had many suggestions for restaurants and places to visit while in Rome.

Owner response:Thank you for writing your review of our home in Rome. I am very happy you found the apartment to be well located and comfortable as you mentioned with "good accommodations for sleeping". I have been told the construction that you referred to will have two floors maximum and be a parking garage for the residential buildings in the area. This building will not interfere with the view, since the building will be below the level of the street behind it. The view from our apartment which is on the fifth floor will not be affected by the parking garage that is a block away. The children's park that was once downstairs will be reinstalled when the work is completed. The amazing part of this project was that they had found ruins of Roman columns and walls underneath the area where the park sits. I was told it was not unusual for the new civilization to build on top of the old. The ruins have now been removed and relocated. I have had no one complain of being disturbed by the project. Since it is near a residential area, they do start late and finish early and do not work on the weekends. If one is looking for a children's park there are others in the area as well as children centers.

We stayed in this 2 bedroom apartment in Trastevere near the Trastavere station. It was well fitted out with a good sized bathroom and good kitchen facilities. It had a balcony and was situated next to the market on Sunday. A short tram ride carried us to the monuments of Rome. The owner was responsive and easy to deal with. All in all a very nice experience in Rome.

Convenient Trastevere apartment

Very comfortable 2 bdr apartment. Public transportation availability is EXCELLENT! It's less than a block from the Trastevere station and many bus routes. Neighborhood has all the amenities easily available. There is a large construction project taking place at the back of the building but we were up early and weren't bothered by it. I'm not sure what is going up there or if it will cause any disturbance. The building in general is quiet given that it's in a large urban area. Certainly much quieter than most of central Rome. Internet is secure, free, easilyy accessed but not very fast. Apartment is well equipped, comfortable and clean. Kitchen very complete. Strange washer but worked just fine. Caretaker in building very nice but doesn't speak English so at least some Italian would be helpful as she explained everything in great detail in Italian. Would definitely stay there again. We enjoyed feeling like we "lived" in Rome instead of just being the tourists that we were.

an English couple in Rome in February 2011!

Guest: Brits Abroad (UK)
Date of Stay: 02/20/11 Review Submitted: 03/13/11

The flat had everything we needed and more. Mrs Narducci was so nice and helpful and the flat was very clean - the bathroom and kitchen were spotless. This flat is unbeatable as a base for seeing Rome in a week. Use the local trams and buses (Barbara has put a lot of information in the flat to help.) We went everywhere using public transport - the flat is 5 minutes from the centre of Rome by tram. We mainly ate locally - the food was good, prices the same as at home and the atmosphere great. Again we read Barbara's advice - but be warned at one local restaurant we went to no-one spoke English and they ended up taking us into the kitchen and showing us the raw food so we could pick! That was a really good night. We ate in the centre of Rome just once. It was expensive and not as good as the local restaurants. The Sunday market is a must - if you fancy walking in to Rome just walk through the market heading in the right direction! The market is absolutely massive. There is a big supermarket hidden away sort of underground nearby (Mrs Narducci will point it out,) but the small local shops just a stone's throw from the flat sell lovely fresh bread every morning. The journey from the airport was straightforward. Again, we followed Barbara's instructions and found the flat straight away. It is within easy walking distance from the railway station but far enough away that you can't hear the trains. We had good weather although it was chilly at night (February,) and the balcony is a sun trap, particularly in the morning. The central heating was on when we arrived and it was good to come home at tea time to a nice warm flat as Rome was defifnitely chilly once you lost the sun! The wi-fi was a godsend as you can keep in touch with family etc. and again there were clear instructions on how to connect. I would certainly recommend this flat to anyone visiting Rome as it was just such an ideal base and the atmosphere of the area is brill. Go and enjoy! We had a fabulous time.

Rome apt - best equipped for the traveler!

My friend and I rented this apartment in January 2011, it was great! I’ve rented a lot of VRBO rentals over the years in Europe, US and Canada and I have to say that is one of the most thoughtfully equipped apartments I’ve stayed in. It has absolutely everything you need and includes English directions for using everything . Very clean, bright, open and spacious, nice big bathroom shower stall, hair dryer, etc and the beds were very comfortable. There is an elevator if needed, but the stair case is nice ‘n wide, well lit. The caretaker was very sweet and showed us around the apartment. We had one small hiccup with the Internet but that was immediately addressed and resolved, I appreciated the fast response from the owner. Know with this rental you are taken care of. We particularly liked being a part of the neighborhood. The Simply grocery story is a quick/easy walk and has everything you need. Plus there are lots of great food markets to explore. There are several good cafes and gelato places just steps out the door, the train station and tram stop is also right there. We also took a cooking class at this Cooking Classes in Rome (http://www.cookingclassesinrome.com), which is a 15 minute walk from the apartment, it was a blast, and totally adds to the experience of living and eating in Rome. Recommendation – the floors are marble, bring slippers when you’re hanging out in the apartment, that would be more comfy to walk around in than socks after a day of sightseeing!

We loved this apartment!

My family just rented this apartment and we loved it. The owner was very responsive and easy to work with. She is very organized and everything went off without a hitch. We received the key in advance so we didn't have to worry about access. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed. The apartment was well stocked and we simply replaced anything we used like bottled water for the coffee machine and toilet paper etc. Everything was well labeled and there were detailed instructions on how to operate the TV, stove, washing machine etc. The location is great: about a block from the Trastevere train station which goes out to the airport, right on the tram line down to the city center, lots of buses stop nearby so one can get everywhere easily. There is a good supermarket a couple of blocks away and a huge weekend street fair so it was really easy to get everything we needed to make the apartment our home away from home for a week. It was nice having two bedrooms too so our daughter could have her own bedroom. This was our first experience using VRBO. I hope all our future experiences work out as well. We highly recommend this apartment.

My family (2 adults and 1 child) rented this property for a whole week and we had a great time. It was nice cozy apartment with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was very nice. The kitchen had everything, lots of utensils and the pantry had all the basic items you would need for cooking. The location was awesome, just a stone throw away from the train station, bust station and tram station. We rode the bus and the tram to every where in Rome. We shopped at the grocery store that is attached to the Trastvere train station and used the News stand right next door to purchase our passes. One more little detail, there is plenty of umbrellas in the apartment to use and information about Rome and useful numbers on the hallway bulletin board and desk. Barbara the owner of the property was extremely kind and patient with answering all my questions. We contacted her with a few questions from Rome via email and she called us back on the phone and checked on us, you did not have to do that Barbara :) One quick note for us Americans, please remember that you are in an apartment and there are people living below and above, please try to be quite if you have to leave early in the morning and if you are returning late after 10pm. :) One observation, the water heater just has enough water for quick showers and you might want to turn it on the previous night if you want to have enough hot water for three.

Our objective was to pretend we "lived" in Rome. We were successful. Had we been in the tourist area, we would have been tourists. But using the tram and busses was so easy, we got to all the desired areas easily. Also it was nice to come out of the hubub of the inner city to the quiet (except at rush hour) part of town. Very friendly and delicious pastry shop on the corner and we loved Barbara's recommendation for a dinner restaurant.

My wife and I stayed at this apartment for 20 days in September. The apartment is as advertised. The shower had plenty of hot water and the high speed internet connection worked fine. We only used the master bedroom and the bed was very comfortable. The washer worked great. The apartment is very convenient for getting around Rome with the #8 tram and buses stopping very close by. It area was noisy, but that is to be expected in Rome. We really enjoyed our stay and the owner was great to work with providing lots of helpful information.

I was just looking through pictures of our last year's vacation and had to write about it. We had such a great time in Rome and want to go back in a few years. We will definitely stay at Barb's place again. We absolutely loved this apt. It was beautifully decorated and an excellent location. I loved the neighborhood feeling and right at the corner we had our morning expresso with the locals. Right down the street you can catch a bus to all of downtown Rome's gorgeous ancient buildings. It was a short walk to one of the cities main bus stations and we got along just fine riding the trains and buses all over. Barb was great to work with and at the apt. there were maps and information about many other attractions, all which were very helpful. We also enjoyed walking through the neighborhood and got a real feel of Italian life. There are many small local lunch places throughout the area with bread galore and great food. Also the gelato in the neighborhood was amazing and a very generous portion was served.

Relaxing Stay, Great Location

Guest: Dave1061 (Lafayette, CO)
Date of Stay: 01/03/09 Review Submitted: 03/10/09

We stayed here from Jan. 3-8, 2009, and couldn't have asked for a better place. The apartment was clean, in a great location and had everything we needed. It was spacious, well decorated, and the beds and couches were great after a long day of walking through Rome. We felt at home within a few hours of being there. Plus, there was satellite TV (with some channels in English!) and an Internet connection. All in all, the apartment really was true to the pictures and descriptions online. So, rest assured you'll get what you're expecting. As an additional perk, the apartment location really has the best of both worlds -- it's close enough to the city center but not overrun by tourists and tourist traps. The neighborhood was safe and there were plenty of shops within walking distance. We were only a few blocks from an affordable grocery store and literally two minutes from two phone centers. We could call the US for only 10 EU cents/minute, so that was nice. And, Trastevere Station was just a few blocks away. We were able to get to pretty much everything we wanted to see within a few minutes and the commute from the airport was cheap and easy. Just be aware that there may not be as many English speakers in Trastevere as there are in the historic center. But, you're in Italy, so it's all part of the experience. I would definitely recommend the apartment to friends and will stay here again when we're lucky enough to go back to Rome. It was great for my wife an I, who are in our 20s, and my parents. So, no matter who you are, you really can't go wrong.

Roman Holiday

We rented apts. in Venice, Florence, Tuscany, and Rome. I felt this apt. was the best overall (price, kitchen, shower, bed quality, elevator, confidence in dealing with owner). Even though the apt. was not in the city center (not shown on free TI maps) or on a subway stop, its proximity to the Trastavere transportation hub allowed us to get to everything quickly. Buy the 6 euro transportation map as soon as you arrive. We slept with windows open and there was some street noise but AC was available if you want to close the windows. Kitchen had basic staples so we didn't have to buy everything. Rome can be overwhelming and the apt. was a welcome delight after a long day of sightseeing. The Rome Pass was an excellent value. If lost, ask for help but don't expect everyone to know everything. I'd recommend this apt. to a friend and I would return for my next visit.

When in Rome...

Guest: Ian H (Leeds, England)
Date of Stay: 09/12/08 Review Submitted: 10/30/08

The apartment is exceptionally clean and well equipped, with everything that you will require for your stay provided. It is spacious and has the feel of a real Italian home [which it was ] rather than a holiday apartment. Trestevare station is just a few minutes walk away, which has direct links to the airport and the Vatican, and easy connection to the Metro and other stations. Buses and trams also stop outside the station, making anywhere in Rome easy to get to at a very low cost [1 Euro for any journey ] The neighbourhood has restaurants, shops and cafes within walking distance, as well as a daily market which the apartment looks down on. I would recommend this apartment to anyone wishing to visit this beautiful City.

Roomy, exceptionally well-equipped kitchen and quiet neighborhood, are the good points. The great point is that this unit is 1&1/2 blocks from the Trestevere train station which is a tsop on the LOCAL train in from the airport. You can also enter the transit sytem here for 1 Euro and either take a train 2 stops to St. Peters or one stop to connect with the Metro and the trains run about 4 times an hour. There is a supermarket 4 blocks away and a convenience store 1&1/2 blocks away with a daily fresh produce market just behind the building. Several ATM's within walking distance and innumerable restaurants off the beaten path with many of their business cards put on a bulletin board by previous guests, Owners are in Chicago making it easy for US residents to contact and reserve; they send you the key ahead of time so you don't have to wait for someone when you arrive (caretaker lives in same building)
