Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2000

I moved to Yucatan in 1986. Being from Palm Beach,I loved the beach but was not ready to buy untill I found the Perfect Spot.
Cancun is beautiful but tooo crowded.. the pueblitos were a bit too rustic for a city girl..

Why the Owner Chose El Cuyo

A friend from Tizimin lent us his beachhouse for the weekend and VOILA!!
We fell in love with El Cuyo which means literally "OF WHOSE". "Cuyo nombre es...
We had found a shack made of wood to buy but had to go through too many hoops with the nationals to get approved. Not just anyone can buy and live in El Cuyo, one must be invited.
We were invited by the Valles family to purchase their ocean front beach house!!
Their family owns the CEMENTO MAYA company.. who better to build the best house in town!!
Which is now yours to visit !!
"Mi casa es Su casa" Come and Enjoy...

The Unique Benefits of this Beach House

Benefits? Peace. Nature, beauty, pure air, long walks, untouched seashells, moonlight, sunshine, wave after wave...

Dear Patti, I attempted to add a comment on the guestbook, but couldn’t get it in. I don’t know what I am doing wrong. You can use the following comments. Just copy and paste them onto your website. Our family spent 9 days at the Campos vacation house in El Cuyo and had the time of our lives. We enjoyed the peaceful quiet, the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets and the endless stars we saw at night for our long walks on the beach. We loved the beautiful beach house and the ammenities it offered. We had fun exploring the small village where no one spoke English and getting what we needed from the wonderful people who live there. Our boys ages 8 & 13 played basketball and soccer with the local kids daily and we even had the local throwing a football by the end of our vacation. I would never stay in Cancun…too many discos, noise, tourists, etc. We loved our serenity and having the endless beach to ourselves every day. The boogie boarding is great! The house came equipped with them and we used them everyday! If you are looking for a unique Mexican experience in ‘real’ Mexico, you will love El Cuyo and the Campos beach house. The Campos family were all very helpful and pleasant and provided everything we needed. You will not go wrong if you stay with them! Margaret Varlamos Anchorage, Alaska

We just loved El Cuyo. It was a 2 ½ hour drive from Cancun, but we got to see the real Mexico along the way. We enjoyed taking the old highway and seeing all the locals on the way. Take your time and don’t be in a hurry. Mexico doesn’t hurry, it is about relaxing and enjoying and that we did. We had the whole beach to ourselves. Really, we only saw one other couple on the beach a few times and a some Mexican weekenders (about 3 families) on Saturday and Sunday. Next time we go, we will try to stay a bit longer. A bit of Spanish would have been very helpful, but our phrase book got us through just fine. The local store had a few items, but we stopped at Walmart in Cancun and had enough for the entire time. We ate at local restaurants many times, but also enjoyed cooking many meals at home. There wasn’t any fresh fish when we were there ,but we did get some homemade tamals from a lady on the street and they were great! This is a great place to relax and enjoy the sun and water. Our boys enjoyed the boogie boards and were in the water every day! The whole family had a great time. The house is huge and really pretty. We would do this again in a heartbeat! If you like adventure and hanging with the locals and just relaxing, bring some books and stay as long as you can! A car is great because you can take day trips to see ruins and other artifacts and still be back before dark for a long, quiet, star filled walk on the beach! If you like discos and noise, don’t come here. Enjoy!

    • Hi Patti, We had a great time, any problems we had were minor, just added fun to the experience. The house was great, the view & the beach and the sunsets by the lagoon every night were amazing. The beach goes for miles and you never see anymore than 3-4 people on it at one time. Knowing a bit of spanish would have been good, but we got along OK. El Cuyo was great, everyone was so friendly & helpful. They helped us with our spanish & we helped them with their english. Wonderful place for a peaceful & quiet get away. We definetly will be back.

    • We found this house to be just as described and totally enjoyed our stay. Relaxing and quiet in Nov. It's perfect for a family, right on the water and you can walk forever down the beach. Takes some time to get there and we recommend taking the toll road because it's faster. Pay attention in Tizimine because it's easy to miss turns there. Definately for the more adventurous types who don't like the big tourist towns like Cancun and the all inclusive s. Helps to know some Spanish or have a phrase book with you, no one speaks English. We want to go back for a month or more next time.

      Homeowner Response:
Thank you, Yvonne! You were the 1st to rent our beach home, far from the last!! Glad to be of service!! P.J.
