THE PINK FLAMINGO: SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!!!
Do you want to stay within a stone's throw of the ocean? You can stand on the deck and literally see the fish jump, the dolphins play and the pelicans glide overhead. With the house facing south, the sun rise is spectacular as it spreads like glowing embers over the horizon. In the evening, the colors from the sunset paint the crests of the surf a golden pink! The views are breathtaking from every room in the house. There's no place like The Pink Flamingo for providing a vacation with fun and happy memories for everyone.
The house is newly decorated for fun in the sun....every room is a different tropical color. One of the comments we hear repeatedly is how "happy" the house is. The 6 bedrooms are open and airy with ample closet space. Two of the upstairs oceanfront bedrooms have 7 foot bay window seats that are great for star gazing at night or watching kids play on the beach during the day (please see the pictures for a glimpse of these views.)
The exterior wall that faces the ocean is nearly all glass. The view is amazing! The kitchen area flows into the living space, providing more opportunities for sharing fun times with others. The kitchen sink is nestled behind two windows that offer a panoramic view of the ocean, making "kitchen duty" not such a bad assignment! Seating for 14 is available in the house, with additional space at the picnic table on the oceanfront deck. For those who are sun sensitive, staying inside is not a problem because the amazing views from the living room help you feel like you are on the beach. And if you want to inch a little closer, you can relax in the shade of a covered porch!
While we don't recommend working at the beach, there is wireless high speed internet connection for those who must, or for those teens who have to stay connected to their friends! Five cable TV’sand three DVD players help keep everyone satisfied in their choice of media selections. Netflix, movies on demand, allows for everyone to choose their favorite movie. Bed configurations are: 4 queen, 2 single, 2 sets of bunk beds.
Yes, the house and beach will keep you occupied during your stay, but the area has much to offer as well. You are less than a mile from a sound-side water sports rental place that offers kayaks, jet-skis, surf boards, and small sail boats. Bikes can be rented on the island, and biking is a terrific way to get around. About 2 miles from the house is a small, but well-stocked grocery store, and there are many fantastic, local seafood markets nearby. Several pizza restaurants deliver to the house! That's always helpful at the end of a busy day. A really great adventure for the entire family is a visit to the NC Aquarium which is about 10 minutes from the house. Cape Lookout is accessible by ferry, and mini-golf and go-carts are only 2 miles away. There's lots more to do and see on Emerald Isle, but you'll have to come and explore it for yourself. We LOVE Emerald Isle because we love everything about the beach. The beaches are swimmer-friendly and the emerald green waters are amazing. Emerald Isle is not overrun with commercialism. You can truly enjoy the laid back pace of living here.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage
If given the chance, I would live at The Pink Flamingo year round!! The views are wonderful. Every day is an adventure because the ocean is forever changing. We even had a Great American Right Whale & her baby hang out for about 90 minutes within eye sight. We could see the water spout and watch the baby play close to its mother! Sometimes you see fish sailing out of the water, and frequently the dolphin play in the waves. Early morning walks often produce a collection of beautiful shells. After storms, the sea deposits gorgeous shells on the shore. My favorite places to be are on the deck in the evening where the stars are spectacular, and I love sitting in the window seat upstairs taking in a 180 degree view of the beach. We also like to bicycle and the streets are safe enough to do this without worry. Another thing that's fun to do is to ride a few miles down the road to Salter Path where so many local fishermen reside. You can pick up just about any type of seafood that's only hours out of the ocean. Then of course, a seafood fest with friends & family back on the beach is the most awesome expeirence ever!

We are a beach-loving family! The ocean is our great escape from the hectic pace of everyday life. We grew up visiting the Outer Banks and spent many summers on its shores. We love the outdoors. Some of our favorite activities include sailing, surfing, fishing, swimming, snorkeling, diving, kayaking and biking. Yet we also love to read, sit on the beach, and share good times with family & friends. We feel especially close to God when surrounded by such an awesome display of beauty. Family, friends & faith are the things that we value most.
