Wonderfully removed from the hotel / resort beachfront crowds, the Banyan Tree House Estate simply overflows with peace and Hawaiiana. Giant Banyan, Monkeypod and Jacaranda trees create a peaceful, shady oasis amidst the fruit trees, flowers and wide open lawns. Several swings and hammocks hang from the trees offering comfortable private places around our 2 acre property. Our 50' swimming pool and Jacuzzi is for the private use of our guests.
A yoga and meditation studio is available for groups and retreat use. Furnished in traditional island style furniture, the living room, formal dining room and bedrooms will give you the flavor of old Hawaii.
We are just a short walk to the quaint Cowboy town of Makawao, and minutes to Paia and Ho'okipa, the internationally-renown windsurfing mecca of maui's spectacular north shore!
On the cusp of the wet and dry sides of the island, the Banyan Tree House usually is bathed in sunshine interspersed with occasional short, cooling showers. Surrounded by 2 acres of lush tropical trees and flowers the Banyan Tree House sits in one of the most ideal climate zones on an island with one of the most perfect climates in the world. In the surrounding hills you have the finest hiking, biking and horseback riding on the island. There are two golf courses in the area. Telephone, fax, wireless internet and laundry facilities included on the premises.

We stayed here for a family reunion for 7 nights. Since this was a family reunion, we occupied the whole entire estate with just around 20 people (adults and kids). The grounds of the Banyan Tree House are beautiful. There are plenty of tropical floral plants and fruit trees all around. A huge "backyard" with a couple of tree swings for the kids to use. Being in upcountry Maui, the weather was nice with cool breezes blowing all around. It was a comfort to come back to the house after an excursion in Lahaina or Kihei, where it was hot. Furthermore, the location of the place gave us that quiet, homey, laid back feeling. The beds are pretty comfortable. The kitchen in the main house was roomy with an oven and griddle combo and another oven/stove right next to it. All the bathrooms in the house and other cottages, are all upgraded. Marty the owner was very nice and kind to answer any questions we had. He also hung a bunch of tree ripened bananas for everyone to pick and eat by the entry way of the property. This is definitely a place that I would recommend and come back to stay every time I visit Maui.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our family stay at the Banyan Tree House with our two young kids (under 10) and my parents (in their 70s). It was a delight! It is one of very few places upcountry that allows children and we were all welcome to swim in the large pool, play on the hammock and swing on the big lawn, play the piano on the screened lanai, and play ping pong. The historic plantation manager's home is roomy and gracious, and the kitchen is fit for throwing large parties! The yoga studio is a wonderful bonus for those so inclined to practice or meditate. Marty keeps the BTH sustainable, with a wind turbine, recycling, composting, and eco-friendly soaps (no detergents!). We felt quite at home. The location is convenient: it is up the road from Paia, another quaint town with a great health food store, 1/2 hour from the gate to Haleakala National Park (1 hour to the summit), and right around the corner from Hali'i Maile General Store, an award-winning cafe that serves tasty local, organic dishes. I highly recommend the Banyan Tree House.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Staying at Banyan Tree House was perfect for us. We visited Maui for our son's wedding and the wedding festivities were all nearby, so the location was ideal. Several family members and friends also stayed here and we all enjoyed the natural simplicity of our surroundings. The cottages are clean and pleasant. The best part of our stay was that this was a non-fussy, and welcoming place. We loved the sounds of birds each morning, the beautiful natural plantings and flowers, and the arrival of our continental breakfasts at our door each morning, complete with luscious local fruit. Up the road in Makawao Town you'll find several nice shops with friendly shop keepers, offering beautiful clothes, kitschy western gear, and the General Store - a great place to get sandwiches to go, groceries for the cottage, and a fantastic wine selection! Pa'ia is less than 10 minutes down the road with it's shops, Mana Grocery (the best organic/whole food grocery on the island), and the great restaurants (Pa'ia Fishmarket and Faltbread Pizza). The staff (Martty and Mouna) are gracious and accomodating. If you want to experience the beauty and slower pace of Maui, this is a great find!Did you find this review helpful? I have done retreats for 20 persons for 8 years in a row in Hawaii. Beginning in 2009 we have used The Banyan Tree House. We will continue to use it every year. It is perfect for group size up to 20 persons. Perfect because of the quality of the facility, perfect in its location, and most importanlty, perfect in the human quality and service provided by Marty (the owner) and his staff. I highly recommend The Banyan Tree House.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My partner and I spent 8 days on Maui and stayed at the Banyan Tree House every night. We absolutely loved it there. Marty and Mona were gracious hosts and the place is just beautiful. We stayed at the Gardenia cottage which was just perfect. It was clean and well kept, with a high ceiling and a great kitchenette and bathroom. We were given a lovely breakfast of local fruits, croissants, and English muffins every morning. One day we decided not to go sightseeing and just spent the whole day there by the pool, surrounded by palm trees and geckos. The view of Kahului harbor from the pool area is amazing. I highly recommend this place for people like us who want to avoid crowds and love to be in a beautiful ,quiet place while on vacation. It was clean and well kept. We were impressed by the recycling and the wind generated energy. Every once in a while we would see a chicken or a cat wander by and this made us feel right at home! The surrounding countryside, mostly lush green sugarcane, was exquisite.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Stayed 3 nights in March 2010 in the Ginger (Sue's) Cottage. Two separate bedrooms with private baths, connected by a mini-kitchen/eating/LR area. Gorgeous outside area with a tree swing. They have two pack and plays, so my 1 yo slept in the P+P in the bathroom off the bedroom my 3 yo slept in. Chickens/rooster on the property - super fun for kids. The pool is great but we didn't use it. Lovely hot tub we enjoyed after the kids went to sleep. There is a cute town area about 5 mintues up the hill with shops and a small grocery. Paia is about 6 miles down the hill. Great place to stay if you're planning to go to Hana or up the volcano. Owner is super nice as is the manager. The breakfast was AMAZING - a huge platter of muffins and tree-ripened bananas, pineapple, mangos.... yum..... Beds are super comfy. Very quiet, peaceful, just lovely. I HIGHLY recommend this place for families with kids. I will stay there again if we go back to Maui.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
