Location: Centro Historico, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Central Mexico, Mexico
Accommodations: Condominium, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath (Sleeps 2)
This charming and sophisticated second floor apartment located in the friendly and safe Chorro area of town is just a short (four block), well-lit walk to the Plaza Principal (or Jardin) where you will find the most popular historic sites, museums, restaurants, shops, cafes and art and language schools. Were you aware that San Miguel de Allende was recently named a UNESCO World Heritage Site? Many important projects are currently underway to improve and preserve this historically significant area of town.
During the hot and humid summer months of the southern States, enjoy San Miguel's perpetual Spring-like weather provided by it's Central Highland location. During the months of June to September San Miguel offers daytime high temperatures in the mid-70 degrees Farenheit followed by cleansing evening rain showers. These pleasant showers cool the evening temperatures, bring out the beautiful blooms of the local flowers and wash down the dusty stone streets. Many say it is the best time to visit San Miguel!
It's easy to fly into Leon, Guanajuato airport from many US cities. Leon is only a 45 minute drive by shuttle from San Miguel. Or, alternatively, why not fly into Mexico City and include a few days in that beautiful, historic city to begin your Mexican adventure? We have provided a link on this page to a wonderful bed and breakfast in Mexico City which we can highly recommend for your stay there. San Miguel de Allende is only a 3.5 hour ride on a very comfortable, first class, non-stop bus from the Norte bus station in Mexico City.
Our one bedroom apartment located on Callejon Piedras Chinas is just a few steps off Calle Chorro (where Chorro meets Calle Barranca). It is one of only three apartments in the building. The spacious living area is conveniently situated on one level with a bright, open floor plan and is tastefully and comfortably furnished and decorated. Some of the amenities include a 26" flat screen TV with DVD/CD player with a selection of recently released movies and a mixed selection of music for your listening pleasure. High speed, wireless internet and a laser printer are available. A small library includes some interesting novels and a few historic/reference books about San Miugel for the history buffs who would like to learn more about our wonderful town. We have compiled a helpful manual to assist you in operating the appliances and electronic equipment in our home and, for the first time visitor, it also outlines our personal preferences for places to eat and shop.
The apartment provides plenty of natural sunlight with a charming French-door overlooking a lovely courtyard with fountain. The apartment was recently completely rebuilt with modern plumbing, lighting and appliances. For your comfort and convenience the kitchen comes fully equipped for dining in including stainless steel cookware, an espresso coffee machine, serving dishes and trays, sharp knives, crystal wine glasses and a selection of condiments and spices.
Martina will come by twice a week to tidy-up and launder the linens. She is very friendly and will help encourage you to practice your Spanish.
The shared. plant-filled roof top terrace offers spectacular 360 degree views. The views include the domes and spires of the many Centro Historico churches and the Parroquia (beautifully illuminated in the evening), the presa (reservoir) and mountains in the background. From the roof terrace you will experience some of the most amazing sunsets!
Why stay in a hotel or bed and breakfast while visiting San Miguel when you can have all the amenities and comforts of home in this beautiful and spacious apartment for less than $35 per night?

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2007
We are John and Sharon, a retired professional couple, who choose to split our time between our home in Vancouver, Canada (May-Oct) and our apartment in San Miguel de Allende (Nov-Apr). We love the warm, Mexican winters and our friendly and welcoming Mexican neighbours. We have made many new friends in San Miguel and feel our life is much richer as a result of our San Miguel experience. John is an active Rotarian and he and Sharon are also involved with many other worthwhile causes in SMA. We have two grown children and three small grandchildren living in Vancouver and at the end or our six month Mexican stay, we are always anxious to reconnect with the little ones, our family and our friends in Canada. During our absence from San Miguel, we invite you to our San Miguel home and hope that you enjoy it as much as we do. "Mi casa es tu casa."
Why the Owner Chose Centro Historico
We owned a vacation home in San Jose del Cabo in the Baja for 12 years and spent many happy times there during our family vacations. As we got closer to retirement, we began extending our time in Cabo to several months in one stretch. Although we loved being close to the beach, we often found it difficult to find interesting things to fill our spare time. We made the decision to travel around Mexico and learn more about the culture, the people and the communities away from the beach areas. Over the next four years we visited San Miguel de Allende several times....it seemed to keep calling us back. We loved the rich and vibrant Mexican culture alive here; the colourful festivals, beautiful historic colonial buildings and fountains, quaint cobblestone streets, perpetual Spring-like weather and, most of all, the welcoming nature of the Mexican locals. We also began meeting many interesting, well-traveled ex-pats who enjoyed giving back to the Mexican community that they now called home. We discovered art shows, music and theatre performances, interesting movies, documentaries and lectures being held, good inexpensive restaurants and San Miguel was also within easy travelling distance to other wonderful Mexican cities and towns that we wanted to explore. The fact that San Miguel did NOT have an international airport was also a plus...we found that those who usually chose to visit San Miguel did so with an express purpose in mind...rather than just for a sun and sand get-away....and this is one of the reasons that John often refers to this magic little town as “an intentional community”.
The Unique Benefits of this Condominium
As our property is located in the Centro Historico area, it is easy to walk most everywhere. It is a four block walk to the Jardin, the true heart of the town, where most of the historic sites, good restaurants and art galleries are located. It's also a short three block walk to Parque Juarez where Zumba fitness classes are held every Saturday morning. We enjoy walking to our favorite shops and to the public market where we pick up fresh tortillas, vegetables and flowers. There are wonderful aspects of our Chorro neighbourhood that we especially love; we have friendly and courteous Mexican neighbours who always make us feel welcome, we love the ambiance of living in an authentic Mexican neighbourhood that is safe and quiet and we love to walk to the gym and yoga in the morning, as well as many of our favourite restaurants for lunch or dinner. When evening comes we enjoy sitting on the roof terrace with a glass of wine, discussing the happenings of the day and watching the beautiful sunset over the distant mountains. Life doesn't get any better!

June 24, 2008 Sharon and John, We leave tomorrow by Primera Plus for Mexico City and on Thursday we'll be on our way back to Ormond Beach. Thank you for being such a wonderful host and hostess. Everything was perfect-even the weather! (I guess we can't give you full credit for that!) Your black book spelled everything out so clearly. Thanks to your generous-hearted approach to "hosting" we've been able to fill our days with delightful outings and our evenings with wonderful music. Your home here is exquisite-a delight to come back to everytime. We met interesting people and took in interesting sights -did interesting things like taking daytrips by bus to Guanajuato and Queretaro. And yeterday I bought sandals at Martha's! Wish I'd learned about her earlier! Our 3 favorite places to eat were Mama Mia's, Cafe Etc., and San Augustin - also Correo restaurant! Thank you Mary and V. Jain

Sept. 18, 2008 Dear John and Sharon, Many thanks for sharing your lovely apartment with us. We cared for your things as if they were our own. We seem to have such similar tastes-I have a feeling we would get along and hope that someday we will run into each other here in San Miguel. This is our 4th trip and we have stayed in wonderful places - but for us, I think this was the most enjoyable. This is truly what being is in San Miguel is all about - this is a true neighbourhood, with roosters crowing and peddlers singing as they sell their wares on the street. The church just above on the hill is now my favorite of them all. I so hope that we will be able to come back and stay again - for a month next time. We left some delicious organic coffeee from Chiapas and there is a brand new Amigo card in the phone. Your upstairs neighbors were very nice. Wishing you all the best in your winter home in SMA and thank you again for offering to share this delightful place. Sincerely, Pilar and Chris Papageorge PS You even had two books I'd been wanting to read!
