We had a great time at this cottage! My daughter and I stayed there recently, choosing the cottage as an alternative to a hotel in Portland. Marilys, the owner, was very accommodating and helpful. Not only was the process of getting keys, etc., convenient, she provided lots of information and tips about area sights, restaurants, etc. the cottage is in a perfect location, in a neighborhood with a beautiful view of the bay but very close to Portland and other coastal towns. The cottage is great and very well stocked with everything you would need. We enjoyed it so much we stayed in more than we planned. We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Just had a lovely Memorial Day visit to Portland and stayed at this darling coastal cottage. The owner was a gracious host and the house was a perfect launching point to visit nearby towns. It is a quick drive into downtown Portland and the surrounding neighborhood is charming. The house was clean, sweetly decorated and looks exactly like the pictures. A great place for families or a small group of friends. It was our oasis in Maine and we will definitely return.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

What a charming cottage! We, along with our Bernese Mountain dog, decided to spend the week on the Foreside for a change of scenery. This home was the perfect spot to not only relax but also to have quick access to the Portland area. We loved sitting on the deck off the master bedroom with our tea each morning, and we have never slept better! The home was spotless when we arrived (which we know is a challenge when places are pet friendly!) and it had the perfect little backyard for our dog. We could not have asked for a better stay, and hope we can return in the future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

What a wonderful area and cute cottage to spend a week at in Maine. Marilys was the perfect hostess for us. The trip back was reminiscent for me as I grew up blocks away, but the house reminded me so much of my grandmothers home just to the north. My favorite place in the house was the nook in the living room with the table overlooking the bay. I'd sit there in the mornings answering emails, reading the paper and drinking coffee, with the constant glance up to take in the beauty of where I was at. The occasional (every evening) Italian Sandwich from Town Landing Mkt was eaten here, too. :-) The house is a great base to head out on day trips, whether heading Down East to Red's Eats in Wiscasset for their world famous Lobsta Roll or south to Old Orchard and the endless plate of fried clams. My wife's favorite spot was the deck upstairs off the Master Bdrm ..... a great place to read, watch the sailboats go by and relax or take a quiet nap. Marilys was a fantastic hostess. The home was neat and clean, as advertised. Marilys was quick and thorough in answering questions or making suggestions for our stay. We hope that you enjoy your stay at this cute cottage in Falmouth as much as we did!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I - and our mini poodle Clancy - had a wonderful time at this cottage. Marilys the owner keeps everything ship shape, and has thought of everything you could possibly need when staying away from home. The cottage is nestled in a lovely neighborhood of homes, and you have a great view of the water from the 2nd and 3rd floors. We had our coffee in the morning out on the deck of the master bedroom, and enjoyed late afternoons in the backyard. The location is good - as everthing in Portland and Freeport is just a few minutes away by car. The next time we come to Maine, we will try to book the cottage again.Did you find this review helpful? We enjoyed our week at this adorable cottage. The owner was enthusiastic and never more than a phone call away. The cottage is clean and comfortable with a beautiful view of the Bay; the kitchen is well equiped and the fireplace added a nice touch at the end of our day. We were surprised at how quickly we were able to get from downtown Portsmouth back to the cottage (15 minutes) and the same for travelling to our favourite store - L.L. Beans in Freeport.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My family and I had an extended stay at this lovely cottage for a few weeks during the Christmas and New Year holidays. We found it to be absolutely delightful and cozy, despite the fact that we were hit with more than one blizzard during our stay! Marilys was also a wonderful and attentive host, and she really bent over backwards to make sure that we were happy during our visit and had all of the information we needed to make the most of our time in Falmouth. We stayed at this beautiful, centrally located cottage in November of 2010. We visited Maine to celebrate my daughter's and my birthday as well as my husband's and my wedding anniversary. We could not have made a better choice in rentals. First and foremost, the owner, Marilys, offers so much information, pictures, feedback on the area, restaurant reviews, things to do...it's like having a personal guide. She leaves absolutely no stone unturned. She must've sent me 100 pictures of the cottage before we even got there, so that we could get a true idea of what it was like. She has a guide book/planner with her own personal restaurant reviews, attractions reviews, rainy day activity suggestions...it goes on and on. We have stayed in many, many rentals, and have never seen the attention to detail, and the thorough feedback on area attractions and restaurants. Amazing!!! We had many events we were celebrating that week, and when we arrived at the cottage Marilys (who knew we were celebrating), decorated the cottage to the hilt. Welcome fire lit, birthday decorations, cards, candy, beautiful fresh flowers, chocolates by the beds. In the refrigerator, she left us celebratory cakes, each handpicked based on our likes. Truly over and above. I have never seen anything like it! The cottage itself was beautifully appointed, charmingly decorated, and fully equipped. You will want for nothing here. The beds were extremely comfy, the house was perfect, warm and inviting, everything you could ever need. The views were beautiful. You can walk to Town Landing Market, an adorable store where they sell delicious sandwiches, lobster, wine and beer and assorted groceries and sundries. We must've walked there at least five times! I cannot say enough about Marilys. She did everything to make our stay memorable. We are actually considering a move to the beautiful state of Maine. She actually took time out of her hectic schedule to give us a tour of her neighborhood, and it's beautiful surroundings. She is an example to other property owners of what to do to make a stay memorable and wonderful!!! I cannot begin to say enough about what a wonderful stay we had. All I can say, is that we will definitely return!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We travelled from Australia to see beautiful Maine. This excellent cottage, with it's beatiful views, quiet environment and absolutely delightful hostess, was the jewel in the crown. With Portland only a 10 minute drive in one direction, and Freeport in the other, plus all the shops required for essentials, only minutes away, it was perfect. Sailing on the bay, Lobster rolls in Wiscasset, all the colours of the leaves, we loved every minute. A truly memorable stay, in an excellent, enchanted cottage.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

With the wicked weather that we all have been experiencing this winter, I like to think back to last July when my family and I spent another week in Maine at this charming cottage. This was our second visit and as with our first in 2008 we were not disappointed. This time we arrived with 6 adults instead of 5 with our first visit. Marilys had everything that we needed for the week waiting for us. We arrived to new colorful Adirondack chairs on the deck off the front bedroom which were much enjoyed by all. Perfect spot for a glass of wine, reading a book or just looking out over the harbor. Marilys goes out of her way to make sure that her guests are comfortable. Her information on restaurants are right on and places to visit and activities were so helpful. For anyone that would question whether 6 adults could spend a week in a cottage with only one bathroom, we worked it out with no problem and we never ran out of hot water! There is plenty of room to spread out in the kitchen, dining room and living room areas and the deck. The great restaurants of Portland are only minutes away and if one night you just want to stay in, one of the highlights of our visit this time was steamed lobsters from the Town Landing Market at the top of the hill which were piping hot when we unpacked them from the styrofoam cooler that they were sent home in. Anyone who is contemplating a visit to Coastal Maine, this cottage is the perfect spot for that visit. What you see on the web site is exactly how it will look when you arrive. Thanks Marilys for a wonderful week! Hope we can make it three visits sometime soon.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I and our (now) teenage children have been staying at this charming home for a couple of long winter weekends each year, usually in December and then sometimes again in February. I originally discovered this home a few years ago and surprised my wife with a Valentines getaway. We enjoyed our time in the Portland (and Freeport) area, as well as our evenings in the home, so thoroughly that we decided we needed to share it with our kids. Since that initial stay, it has become a special tradition for our family and we try to reserve a Christmas shopping stay each year in December; and then, when the home is available, we will often return in February to break up the winter (and my wife and girls enjoy the post-Christmas bargains in Freeport). We truly can’t say enough about the comforts of this home and the special extras provided by the owners, Marilys and Robert. The home is so welcoming and inviting in every way. We usually arrive in the evening and the heat is always set to our ideal temperature upon arrival; the fireplace often has a fire going, the lights are on; there are flowers, chocolates, etc. It’s quite a cozy home, very warm, has comfortable furniture for gathering by the fire at night, and very good mattresses, something we have not always encountered in other rental homes. We also find the location to be perfect for our needs. The area is unusually peaceful and quiet, which is a nice retreat from our fast-paced Boston life, but there are theaters and coffee shops nearby that our kids really appreciate when my wife and I want some quiet time at the house. We always look forward to our favorite Portland restaurants and the breakfast places in Falmouth are the best we’ve found in the area. We just reserved our December stay and look forward to seeing all of the changes the owners made to the house this past summer. We truly need to thank you both for helping us create a special family tradition that we all look forward to each year. Thanks again for everything and we look forward to seeing you very soon.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We (my husband, our pug and me) stayed here the first week of August 2009. We've been renting vacation homes for a week at a time once or twice a year for the past 10 years and they've almost all been good experiences. However, I have to say that this was definitely the best one in terms of the thoughtful little extras provided, especially in the wonderfully-stocked and equipped kitchen, the well-maintained charming decor, the fresh-cut flowers, a delicious little cake in the fridge to welcome us, the extremely comfortable beds, and especially the toughtfulness and attentiveness of the host. In addition to providing an extensive, personally-written vacation planner (not just the usual basket of tourist magazines and brochures and page or 2 of care-of-the-house instructions), Marilys quickly and courteously responded to our additional questions, yet was extremely respectful of our privacy. Thanks to the wonderfully detailed information she provided, we had much more insight into the sights/activitires of interest to us, not to mention to great restaurant information and reviews. Since we were so busy with work, etc. before we left and had minimal time to gather information about the area ourselves, that was a godsend! The location of the house is just ideal - in a beautiful, picturesque, quiet location, less than 5 minutes walk to the Towson landing market with it's wonderful shrimp rolls, or go in the other direction down to the little beach, barely 15 minutes away from the Old Port area of Portland, with the charming shops, historic sites and restaurants, 15-20 minutes away from the Freeport outlet shopping, etc. I am so glad we selected this property for our vacation and absolutely recommend it without hesitation to anyone who wants to get the most out of a vacation to the Portland/Casco Bay area!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We rented this home in June with and had a wonderful time. I can second everything that others have said, as our entire experience was really great from beginning to end. The owner sent a lot of email communications to everyone in our group and emailed an additional website that had around 20 photos. This was immensely helpful for our group in reaching consensus on a home to rent for our reunion. Her email communications were fast and clear and also really comprehensive. The location was perfect. It was a quick zip to Portland, which was great, as we dined in Portland nearly every night (we stayed with owner's suggestions and had great success). We also spent a good amount of time in nearby Freeport and enjoyed some daily LL Bean excursions. We really appreciated the owner's extremely thorough list of recommendations, both for restaurants and "things to do", as we had never been to Portland before. We enjoyed Boothbay Harbor--a great day-trip (45 mins north). For dinner, we would highly recommend Street and Co. in Portland and the Mediterranean Grille in Freeport. The house was perfect for us. We appreciated the fact that all of the bedrooms were comfortable--not just the master bedroom, and that there was plenty of space and comfortable seating for the three couples to gather in the living room and to have breakfasts together in the house. We didn't use the kitchen a lot, but we did notice that it had a lot of supplies and nice things (including lots of different types of stemware). She left a lot of plush towels for us to use, and there was enough hot water to go around, too. We really loved the peace and quiet of the neighborhood, and how incredibly beautiful Falmouth-Foreside is. It was interesting for us to experience this coastal, rural-in-feeling area, with all of the fabulous oceanside estate homes; and yet also have an area just 1-2 miles away with restaurants, theaters, coffee shops, etc. It was so convenient to run to Starbucks in the morning and them come home to enjoy it on the deck within minutes. You would never know, in spending time in the pristine and coastal Falmouth-Foreside area, that there is this whole other area with all the conveniences so close by. We will always treasure the great memories!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our family of four have just finished spending a few months in the cottage on Pitt Street. What a delight - not only was our landlord amazingly friendly, kind and attentive, she prepared the house to the utmost prior to our arrival. We bridged several seasons in the house and enjoyed each one in their own right. The views are wonderful, and the accommodations very comfortable - the beds - simply ROCK! I would encourage anyone to stay here - you will love the house and the area. I had read the previous some what negative review prior to my stay and can say that I found NONE of it to be our reality - though the kitchen can be a touch colder than the rest of the house - it is quite comfortable and a new heater is being added to that room.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We spent approximately five months living in this charming cottage this past winter and into early spring (’09). We were immediately impressed by its location, water views, tasteful decorations and general quaintness of the cottage. Though we believe this cottage has a lot to offer in the warmer months, it did present real challenges to our family in the dead of winter. The owners did provide a space heater, and installed additional blinds in the kitchen, but this did not help raise the temperature above 61 degrees throughout the house. The wood-burning stove was marginally helpful when you were in the living room, but it did not heat the rest of the home adequately. It's also worth noting that the kitchen (which did not have a separate thermostat) was much colder than the rest of the home (temp. was probably in the mid-50s). Another issue that was troubling is that the boiler failed one weekend and the owner's responsiveness to immediately address the issue was less than satisfactory. Finally, occasional roof leaks were experienced, especially as the snow began to melt. In closing, we would not recommend this property for a winter rental.Did you find this review helpful? With parents visiting, I spent a lot of time looking for a place close by where family could all easily visit. This wonderful cottage was perfect in every way. The owner responed quickly to numerous emails, and was beyond helpful in making this a truly unique experience. She put a ready light log in the fire and had the cottage immaculate upon arrival. The views from the living room, dining room and upstairs master bedroom look right onto the ocean. The expectionaly comfortable living room is arranged to entertain a large group, and the adirondack chairs in the backyard and upstairs porch are wonderful ways to enjoy the view. We grilled outside one night for dinner, and Marilys conveniently had a large bag of charcoal to use. Her amazing attention to detail is exceptional, from the beautiful floor designs to painted antiques. She clearly had a lot of fun decorating this cottage and we all spent a good deal of time admiring her artwork and designs. My favorite was her coffee table: a handcrafted Maine lobster trap, with an antique painted door over the top. She also filled the house with brightly painted lobster buoys, starfish and seashells. We had a wonderful walk around the town, stoping at the Town Landing store for local gossip on the weather and a good cup of coffee. We drove to Mackworth Island, a few miles down the road, and had a wonderful hike. We were close enough to Freeport for shopping and enjoyed an excellent dinner at Fore Street in downtown Portland. Everything was close by, but we could have stayed at the house and been completely happy. I recommend this to visitors, and to local families who want a house close by for friends and family. We all truly enjoyed our stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My new husband and I stayed here for our mini-honeymoon. The house was incrediby clean when we arrived, as well as bright and cheery! It is decorated in a fun nautical theme with interesting art work and furniture throughout. Its location is quite convenient being halfway between fabulous outlet shopping in Freeport and funky downtown Portland. The couches were comfy for snuggling by the fire. The master bedroom was super comfortable...after an exhausting wedding weekend, it was the perfect place to catch up on our sleep. Best of all, we got to bring our two beloved dogs with us! Oh and Marilys even left us a piece of to-die-for-chocolate cake from a local bakery. Yum!! This home was so clean and comfortable and the hosts were so helpful and accomodating! Great location also in a beautiful area. The house is charmingly decorated, the beds comfortable, and plenty of hot water. Great views! Host provided a detailed list of good restaurants and local activities that was extremely helpful. Our favorite restaurant was Street and Co in Portland, average entree price 20.00 to 25.00. Willard Beach and Crescent Beach were both nice, and the Lobster Shack near Two Lights had good food with great views. We enjoyed the Lucky Catch lobster cruise also. Spending a week in rental property with only photos on the Internet for reference could be risky, but we definitely were not disappointed with what awaited us when we arrived. Everything was exactly as it was portrayed in the listing. When we walked upstairs and saw the large front bedroom with French doors to the balcony, with views of the harbor, we knew that it was going to be a great week. The balcony with colorful Adirondack chairs, is great for conversation or reading a book alone. The cottage was sparkling clean, and equipped with everything as listed to make our stay comfortable and memorable. The "cottage chic" decorative elements of the cottage were so fitting for the location. Marilys did a fantastic job decorating. She also made sure that we had the necessary kitchen items, so if we wanted to have a meal at home, we could. We were blessed with good weather that week, with a full moon that lit up our front bedroom every night. With the Town Landing Market at the top of the hill, known for their lobster rolls, to the wonderful bakery a short drive away, to the short walk down to the harbor in the evening, it was enjoyed by all. Even though we had lived in the area 30 years ago, a lot had changed, and it was helpful that Marilys had prepared a list of great restaurants (as well as activites) in and around the Portland area with her concise and honest review of them, and she didn't steer us wrong. I do hope that anyone considering a trip to the Portland area, consider a stay at this wonderful, charming cottage. You won't be disappointed. There is not a negative thing to say about this property or our wonderful "hostess", Marilys. Our reservation has been made for another stay for a week in July ( 2010). Can't wait!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed in this charming, beautifully decorated home last spring and enjoyed every minute of it. The owners love of this abode is reflected in every detail. Beautiful views and a wonderful location - close to everything worth enjoying. We fell in love with this home and plan on making this an annual destination for our family.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Hi Terri, Thank you so much for taking the time to write this wonderful review--it's great to hear from you! So many of our guests write wonderful things in the guestbook in our house, but don't consider writing a review on our advertising page, so I really appreciate the time that you took the time to do this. As you know by emails that we have exchanged, we loved having you and hope to see you again--and I haven't forgotten my special promise to you! Hope to see you back in Maine soon! Happy New Year! Marilys
