Thanks Barry – Here’s the post: My wife and I (mid-60's, from Oregon) were joined by my son and his wife (early 30's, from Denver) for 5 days of wine country touring. The house was ideal for us. Mornings we walked through the quiet neighborhood to get coffee and pastries, and once shopped at an excellent fruit and vegetable stand. We were able to sit out on the beautiful back patio for breakfasts and dinners. Several evenings we brought food back to the house and cooked our dinners there. The neighborhood the house is in is very quiet, and also very convenient--if you are going through the Sonoma Valley, in just a couple of minutes you are on your way. The house was clean and in excellent condition. When the propane ran out of the gas grill, the owner personally refilled it the next day. I would recommend this property to anyone who doesn't want to stay in a hotel. It is convenient to everything--particularly downtown Sonoma, shopping, and the Sonoma Valley wineries, and not too far from Napa Valley. We were all really happy we stayed there! Omgoodness, where do I start? Our visit to Sonoma wine country was incredible! We LOVED spending evenings on the patio enjoying the day's finds. The house is very comfortable and it was literally like home-away-from-home. It was conveniently located right in the middle of all the vineyards we wanted to experience...Coppola, Russian Hill, Matanzas Creek (fantastic wine & cheese pairing plus lavendar garden), Siduri, Gloria Ferrer (recommend the tour), Gundlach Bundschu (oldest family owned winery in California) just to name a few! We also enjoyed taking a stroll around the town square. Being a Foodie and a Guy Fieri 3-D follower, we'd also recommend Mary's Pizza (they deliver!), Schellville Grill, and The Fremont Diner. We didn't want to come back!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Valley of the Moon Wine Country Retreat was the perfect place for our vacation with friends. From the moment we walked in the door we were welcomed by the beautiful hardwoods and decor in colors of warm reds and gold which reflect the wonderful hues of Sonoma. The house was neat, clean and well equipped with everything we could need. Our most favorite times were out on the patio under the trellis cooking on the grill, enjoying our dinner and wine brought back from the vineyards. The patio overlooks a beautiful yard and garden which is also a perfect place to enjoy the morning sun and a cup of coffee. Oh and I can't forget the apple tree in the front yard which provided us with the most delicious apples which we not only brought on a picnic lunch and put in our salad but we also baked a few of them into a coffee cake. This vacation retreat was phenomenal and we can't wait to go back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This place turned out to be even more then what we expected. We arrived to an adorable home located about a mile out of the little town of Sonoma. Barry's home was adorable and perfect for anyone who wanted to be in the central of "wine country". The house is decorated nicely and perfect for four people. We were there with our two best friends. This was our first time out on the west coast and in the valley and Barry was so incredibly helpful with everything. The house is a complete GEM and SOOO close to so many wineries. LOVE LOVE LOVE it and would completely recommend this place to anyone who wants quaint vacation home that actually feels like home, with a perfect rose filled garden and back yard that takes all your stress away. Chateau St. Jean Winery (Sonoma) is perfect for a picnic, Benzinger (Partner's Tour- Sonoma) is AMAZING and well worth the $40 they even give you a complimentary tasting for Imagery Estate Winery (Sonoma) which is 5 minutes away from the house. Please go to Arroyo Winery in Calistoga (call ahead) amazing small winery complimentary tasting (up to 4), great wines. Hendry Winery (Napa- Call ahead $20 Tour) VERY informative tour. In Sonoma- Roche Winery tasting saloon is great place to go an relax, Highway 12 wines has complimentary wine tastings, Sonoma Cheese shop is a great place to go pick out those perfect cheeses for your vacation. Barry is very helpful with place to eat, shop, and to taste at. We really couldn't have asked for a better host, home, and vacation!Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We loved the small home with the large backyard! The backyard is perfect for dining and hosting friends and family for a nice BBQ. Inside, the decor is great and the beds and linens were comfortable. The house has everything you need, including an easy-to-access washer and dryer. Plus, the owners leave a very informative book for the surrounding areas. It's so easy to get into the main Sonoma Square, and it's less than 10 minutes to several tasty wineries. I would definitely return.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We thoroughtly enjoyed our six week stay. It became our home away from home. For a midwesterner, winter morning coffee and afternoon lunch in our own sunny backyard, brimming with yellow roses and fresh apples, was a real treat. The home is beautifully decorated and well located in a nice neighborhood. We recommend it highly for a weekend getaway or an extended stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed in Barry's home in Sonoma one weekend in September of 2011 with another couple. Not only was the home absolutely adorable, tastefully furnished and comfortable, but Barry could not have been a more wonderful host. While we never met him in person, he was there with us through his suggestions the whole weekend. The home was exactly as the pictures depict, very clean, and clearly loved. My husband left half of his clothes in the dresser, and Barry, without any sense of annoyance, collected all of his things and mailed them to us immediately! The house is perfect for two couples, with ample space to lounge around. The backyard is such a wonderful and relaxing space, and the apples growing out there tasted delicious! Parking for two cars was never an issue, and we were a very short drive from downtown Sonoma where we had delicious meals. So much wine tasting, so much to do, too little time! I can't say enough about how wonderful this home and its owners are, and I definitely recommend this home to anyone looking for a hassle free oasis at the end of the day!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Barry is a retired executive and Bonnie is an active Interior Decorator. We bought the house with the original intention of fixing it and selling it but after we fixed it we actually fell in love with it and decided to keep it as a second vacation home. The idea of vacation rental came to us about six months later and we put it up on VRBO and never looked back. We keep a book of the before's and after's in the house and most of our guests get a great kick out of it. Bonnie is exceptionally creative in turning a house from, as we say, from 'OK to Oh Wow!' The pictures of our place before and after certainly demonstrate that creativity.
Why the Owner Chose Sonoma:
Sonoma has always been one of our favorite getaway locations and now that we have this Vacation home we can get there much more often. Because of the wine and olive oil industries, the community of Sonoma seems to have some sort of festival every week. We particularly enjoy the annual Sonoma Jazz Festival. Summers in Sonoma are magnificent, winters are quite mild, and spring an fall are absolutely spectacular. There is something very special about wine country in the fall during harvest which occurs through most of September and early October.
