The Corey House faces out over one of California's beautiful "Vista Points"
Location: Mendocino, North Coast, California, USA (30 minute South of Mendocino, 3 hours North of San Francisco)
Accommodations: Home, 2 Bedrooms + Library, 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)
Imagine driving by scenic wine country vineyards, through a redwood forest, along a peaceful and beautiful stretch of the California coast, and arriving at Irish Beach and The Corey House - the perfect home base for your vacation.
The house itself is luxurious and comfortable, but what makes this home truly special is the idyllic location. No photograph can convey the beauty you will see and the peace you will feel when you are in this house. Safely situated on a gentle hillside, the house is just a few hundred feet from the ocean. What you will see from the great room is miles and miles of ocean and coastal hills. The Corey House actually overlooks one of the most beautiful "Vista Points" in the state. There are no houses or cars in your view, just the ocean, mountains, pastures and an assortment of animals, such as sheep, deer, donkeys, and birds.
Completed in 2006, this roomy 1500 square foot house was designed to be a peaceful and serene vacation home. The design is spacious and uncluttered, with soft neutral walls, lots of light, and large windows with beautiful ocean views from every room, even the bathrooms. The marble-surround gas fireplace, sound system in each room, and lights with dimmers throughout the house allow you to relax as you wish.
Sleeping up to six, there are two bedrooms and an open reading room with a sofa that converts to a double bed. One bedroom features a California king bed, TV, walk-in closet, and a fully tiled shower for two. The other bedroom has a queen bed and tiled shower with bathtub. The bedrooms are on opposite sides of the house, and each has its own deck. There are five separate decks, over 900 square feet in all. You can also relax in the very private, five-person, outdoor spa, and gaze at the stars or enjoy the sounds and sight of the ocean.
The beautiful, five mile long beach is just a few blocks away, one minute by car. A special passkey for the private, gated road to the beach is included with your rental.

We very much enjoyed your home—like the touch of Asian Design. It is so quiet here. Enjoyed the 3 donkeys, rabbits & quail. Plus the deer. I highly recommend driving to the top of the ridge behind the house on Alta Mesa. If a clear day, you can see forever. We always “do” Fort Bragg & Mendocino and down the coast to Gualala. Sort of an “eat-fest.” Bob

It is always a wonderful experience coming to the coast, i.e. sun, fog, wildlife. The donkeys were so personable!!! Enjoyed your home immensely. So comfortable. Thank you, Nancy

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home. It is by far the most well-equipped we have stayed in. We couldn’t get over how peaceful it is here. We hope to come back! Sylvia

Peace, joy, and beauty are here. What a wonderful place to begin our married life together! We had a wonderful week here—with brief encounters with the donkeys, sheep, quail, deer and a lone rabbit. Irish Beach is fun. It is an amazing place, a great hideaway you have created. We look forward to returning in the future! Stan & Kristi

What an amazing home! We had an amazing time! It was our first time at the Corey house but our friends’ second. We had a lot of adventures, but we often relaxed at home while the kids created adventures of their own and squealed over the donkeys. We were here for the driftwood fire at Irish Beach. Wow! That was the highlight for the men. They stood out front and watched as the planes and helicopters flew low to dump water and borax on the fire. Some of the borax bombers seemed to just skim the top of the house. We went to Schooner Gulch, Point Cabrillo Lighthouse and did a wonderful hike at Van Dam State Park. We also enjoyed the driftwood houses and waves at Irish Beach—probably the most fun for the kids. There were bike rides and runs and walks and just hanging at the house. A wonderful vacation!!! Ken, Monika & Zoe

We arrived enveloped by the sea mist but didn’t care when we saw how lovely your home is. The first night in the hot tub was fantastic and we had no idea that such a fabulous view would greet us in the morning. The children thoroughly enjoyed the visits from the deer and the donkeys—and loved feeding the latter carrots! We also spotted the skunk which was great. Irish Beach is truly picturesque. We were amazed that it was so warm given the cloud cover and suddenly understood why summers on this coastline are so foggy—not a concept we are used to in the UK! We were also lucky to enjoy a day of complete reverie down there also. We enjoyed a lovely lunch at Bayview Café in Mendocino which we would highly recommend visiting. As your home was so comfortable and a true home away from home, we didn’t venture out much more than that. We have spent 3 weeks totally on the go, so we much enjoyed recharging our batteries here. And finally thank you so much for the extra effort for removing the dog hairs—pardon the pun but I have a nose like a bloodhound but even I only managed to sneeze once—excellent!! Thank you so much for letting us borrow your wonderful home. Jacqueline, David, Alexandra & Sebastian Oxshott, U.K.

Coming from rainy Manchester, in England (Stockport), this has been so different from our usual experiences. It has lived up to our expectations and then some on top! Our Manchester (3rd largest city in the UK, population of greater Manchester, 4 million) is very different to your Manchester. The view across the ocean is stunning, and, although we didn’t see it for 2 days due to the atmospheric sea mists, when it finally did show, we couldn’t take our eyes off it. The accommodation has been fantastic. We have loved the hot tub. Not many opportunities for an outdoor hot tub in the UK! We have been amazed at the abundance of wildlife here, from donkey (ok, maybe not so “wild”) to deer, and from “must be a type of vulture” to “little burrowing creature that’s not a mole, could it be a gopher? Thanks for a wonderful holiday, Jacky, Joe and Samuel Stockport, Manchester, UK

We enjoyed staying here in your cozy house. We appreciated how comfortable you made it. The beach was great! After reading past comments, we waited and waited for the donkeys! Finally, last night we got our visit! How fun! Thanks for everything. Robin & Brian Renee & Mike Vacaville & Suisun, CA
