The Corey House faces out over one of California's beautiful "Vista Points"
Location: Mendocino, North Coast, California, USA (30 minute South of Mendocino, 3 hours North of San Francisco)
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + Library, 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)
Keywords: Home
Imagine driving by scenic wine country vineyards, through a redwood forest, along a peaceful and beautiful stretch of the California coast, and arriving at Irish Beach and The Corey House - the perfect home base for your vacation.
The house itself is luxurious and comfortable, but what makes this home truly special is the idyllic location. No photograph can convey the beauty you will see and the peace you will feel when you are in this house. Safely situated on a gentle hillside, the house is just a few hundred feet from the ocean. What you will see from the great room is miles and miles of ocean and coastal hills. The Corey House actually overlooks one of the most beautiful "Vista Points" in the state. There are no houses or cars in your view, just the ocean, mountains, pastures and an assortment of animals, such as sheep, deer, donkeys, and birds.
Completed in 2006, this roomy 1500 square foot house was designed to be a peaceful and serene vacation home. The design is spacious and uncluttered, with soft neutral walls, lots of light, and large windows with beautiful whitewater ocean views from every room, even the bathrooms. The marble-surround gas fireplace, sound system in each room, and lights with dimmers throughout the house allow you to relax as you wish.
Sleeping up to six, there are two bedrooms and an open reading room with a sofa that converts to a double bed. One bedroom features a California king bed, TV, walk-in closet, and a fully tiled shower for two. The other bedroom has a queen bed and tiled shower with bathtub. The bedrooms are on opposite sides of the house, and each has its own deck. There are five separate decks, over 900 square feet in all. You can also relax in the very private, five-person, outdoor spa, and gaze at the stars or enjoy the sounds and sight of the ocean.
The beautiful, five mile long beach is just a few blocks away, one minute by car. A special passkey for the private, gated road to the beach is included with your rental.
For a more complete picture of The Corey House through the eyes of the guests who have stayed there, read the guest reviews and comments below. All but the most recent comments in the guest book at the house have been entered verbatim, including the following:
"This place was paradise! We loved every minute of it! It was a perfect way for our family to relax and reconnect w/one another in such a nurturing atmosphere. We will never forget these three days together!"

My sister and I are writers and looked for a place to get away and accomplish a few goals--not always easy to do with husbands and energetic dogs to distract you. We couldn't have asked for more. The owner's have thought of everything. The view was perfect and everything about it was inspirational...not only for writing. Our week was a time of relaxation, spiritual renewal and creativity. Thank you, Alex and Cathy, for sharing your beautiful home. We hope to return next year.
Owner response:Thank you very much for the favorable words. You both were a pleasure to get to know through our conversations and emails. We truly appreciate all your kindnesses. We thank you for taking the time to write your review to let others know how much you enjoyed your stay at our vacation home on the central Mendocino coast. I agree that it is amazing how relaxing and inspirational the house and the view are. Whether it's two sisters getting away to do some writing, a family coming together for a fun and meaningful time together, newlyweds on their honeymoon, an individual seeking quiet time away from the crowd, or any small group of family or friends hoping to explore a beautiful area and to recharge their batteries, the Corey House is the perfect vacation choice because its location and view are so serene and majestic.

A lot of deer all around the house was a lot of fun and excitement for our 2 Belgium Shepherds. The walk on the beach was great and just minutes away. Thanks for sharing your wonderful home. Stephanie & Nalyne & Sasha & Ginger

Packing up to leave—had a wonderful stay. The Corey House is our favorite here on the coast! Can’t ask for nicer accommodations or hosts. Will be back in June to celebrate our anniversary! Bruce & Susan We highly recommend the Phoenix Restaurant in Pt. Arena. We have been there twice now & have had excellent meals/service/prices.

The three of us & our puppy dogs came through rain & detours from Sacto to get here & it was totally worth it! As always, the house was perfect when we arrived. We really appreciate all of your thoughtfulness with the amenities. All that is required from us is to settle in & start relaxing! A bonus: it was Joy’s birthday too! The weather was beautiful except for one very foggy day & evening. We hate to leave but the next visitors are on their way, so on we must go…?. But…we’ll be back! ? What a pleasure to vacation in your home. The house was perfect for our needs with our parents and us. We loved the neatness and soothing touches! We had one beautiful day to play on the beach which the boys loved. Who can't say enough about the donkeys? They are well fed. The neighbors are friendly; Joe & June say “hello.” Thank you for sharing your home with us. We look forward to another stay. Thank you so much for providing such a comfortable, cozy, impeccable space to share with friends for a long weekend. As we had hoped for, we woke up to a beautiful sunny day with blue skies and crisp spring breeze. What we hadn’t anticipated was the news of the tragic quake & tsunami warnings and beach closures here locally. What a different experience for those of us born and raised in the interior mountains to have to consider! But we reveled in it, were able to meander down to the vista point just down the road during the early morning hours and watch the ocean with a cautious eye, from a safe height, among a handful of friendly locals & mugs of hot coffee. In the end the tsunami warning was lifted and—alas—the beach was ours for the wandering. From this amazing location there is quick access to so many breathtaking places, all of them just empty enough to feel secluded and private. And needless to say, the house itself is a gem, everything here felt so intuitive—when it comes to creature comforts, and then some, we constantly found ourselves saying, “They have thought of everything.” We hope to come again some time soon and enjoy such a unique & wonderful space. You have done a terrific job!! Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you, Faye, Jessie, Lisa, Travis & sandy dog Spokane, Washington

A clean, comfortable home. Kitchen is well stocked, beds are comfortable. I had no intentions of cooking on my vacation, but we cooked every night. Kitchen is the best stocked I have ever stayed in, and we always rent homes when on vacation. Watching the deer, donkeys and sheep in the evening was so entertaining we didn't want to leave. Fireplace is nice, Hot tub great. Pretty garden out front. Alex (owner) is great to deal with, answered all my questions quickly and gave lots of advice on restaurants. Multiple decks ,comfortable deck furniture. plenty of windows to enjoy the wild life.
Owner response:Ina, thank you for the kind words. You were a pleasure to deal with. Cathy loves to cook, so she stocks the kitchen with everything one might need. If an item gets worn out, she replaces it. In a few years, we have had 4 toasters, 3 coffee makers, 3 sets of pots and pans, and 3 BBQ grills. We designed the kitchen so that it is part of the living and dining areas, with plenty of windows so you can cook and eat while enjoying the ocean, mountains and wildlife. There are many good restaurants along the coast, but it is hard to beat the simple pleasure of enjoying a meal and wine with family or friends in this comfortable home.

We spent a wonderful weekend in this great house, and regret that we did not stay longer. The web pictures do not really do it justice - as it is well decorated, has a wonderful fully stocked kitchen and is perfectly maintained (with obviously love and care ) and sparkling clean. The views were magnificent and it seemed to be the quietest place on earth. The only issue we had is that operation of the electronics (brand new large screen TV, DVD, CD, Satellite Box, Stereo, ipod connection) was a bit overwhelming. I think there were six remotes! However it did not matter because when we came home from exploring and hiking we headed straight to the hot tub. In summary - this home is a great place for those wanting a quiet weekend away from it all. Having rented many VRBO homes, we would consider this a winner!
Owner response:Diane and Mel, thank you very much for taking the time to write such a positive review. It makes us very happy to know that our guests have had a wonderful stay. I apologize for the problem with the remotes. A few days before your stay, our TV provider installed a new HD satellite and box. We have updated our instructions for future guests. We welcome your return!
