My husband and I have had great experiences with these rentals. Ours were scrupulous clean. The owners go the extra mile in supplying kitchen, china, and cutlery, fireplace wood, cds, games, info on the area. Best of all they are located in the heart of wolf, bear, and cougar country in an old gold mining community with real local characters. Town and Yellowstone are only 6 miles away. We have since relocated to the area and still send family and friends to all these rentals--our first choice for the area. My mother loved Cub's Cache--found it clean and homey. Last winter I was employed as a wildlife guide for visitors to the park, and I shared cheese and crackers with one of my clients there. They loved Sunny Slope. These are more than rentals--they are elegant and huge, but offer a peak into a vanishing way of life.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My stay at the Cub's Cache with my husband and 2 kids was absolutely wonderful. We were surprised to find all the amenities we needed: fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, yard for the kids, games, books, stereo, TV and DVD. We loved the fact that it didn't have a TV with cable as we read and played games together as a family. It was one of the best vacations that I can remember. The cabin is close to Yellowstone but very quiet. You really get the feel of a "Montana cabin." We found it to be clean and comfortable. For the price, this was far better than a hotel room. In fact, it was cheaper than a hotel room and we were able to cook our own meals, wash clothes, and have space. We spent 5 nights there but wished we could have stayed longer. I will recommend this to friends, no doubt.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We stayed in this property during the first week of August 2011. We were looking for something that our elementary aged children would enjoy rather than being cramped into a hotel room. Granted we were not at the cabin for any great length of time as we were at the park but we were somewhat disappointed. We experienced the same wet towels/sheets upon arrival as the previous renters--and the same mouse "presents". I think the description of the property should state that it is attached to another cabin right next door. Also, the furnishings between the two cabins were like night and day different! $200 would go a long way in sprucing the place up! We also could not access any internet but we able to use our wifi card to connect. Finally, the cabin is not located right on the creek, you must take a short hike! We just think the description is a bit misleading as it was not what we expected.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you, Kennita, for your feedback. For future families staying here - please make us aware of any issues while staying at the cabin so we can ameliorate them and make your stay as comfortable as possible. I am sorry the cabin was not what you expected. In no way, do we try to mislead folks as to what the cabin is like or where it is located. The desciption and photos are exactly what the cabin represents. I hope you were able to appreciate the fully equipped kitchen, stereo, washer/dryer, yard for the kids, and soothing sounds of the creek. As stated on the site, this is less expensive than a hotel room with much more space. Thanks again for your feedback and I am happy you were able to enjoy Yellowstone.

We stayed at Cub's cache for a week. For two of us it was a giant cabin. It has very comfy bed. We had no problem falling asleep while we were away from home. The area is very quiet. Also there isn't much light around the cabin so you can see many stars in the sky at night. We bought some steaks from the grocery store in Gardiner and grilled it. It was excellent. Kitchen had more than enough utensils for us. One thing to note, all of the grocery stores in the park and Gardiner close by 9pm. The cabin has washer and dryer, which was helpful. We went rafting/ fishing/ or boiling river, and found this very useful. WIFI is available, but the access point is somewhat far (two cabins down). I was able to connect to the internet most of the time. Cub's cache is located very near to North Entrance of Yellowstone park. You can see Mammoth Hot Springs on the way down to Gardiner. It is a gravel/ dirt road but was not difficult to get around it. So, not much time was wasted driving in to the park. We were able to go every major attraction in the park and some trails plus Grand Teton in a week. Jessica was able to give us some discounts for some of the activities we did in the Yellowstone. So when you plan your trip ask her if she has some suggestions.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

My wife and I took our oldest grandson on this trip to celebrate his 13th birthday. We stayed 4 nights and spent most of our day time in Yellowstone. Check-in time was 4:00 p.m., but we found the door open around 10:00 a.m. and left some of our luggage in the cabin (it had not yet been cleaned). Upon returning around 6:00 p.m., we found clean towels hanging out, but they were still damp. The bed was made and some cleaning had obviously been done, but the stove was still dirty, and we found mouse pills in the cabinet. There was a small TV with a VCR tape player in it, but no antenna or cable hookup. This was a big disappointment to the 13-year old. For the price of rental, it seems that at the least a DVD player would be available and some form of network TV. The cooking utensils were skimpy (we found no spatula for turning pancakes), but the stove cooked adequately and there were a few items (salt, oil, etc.) that had been left by previous renters. The road to the cabin is rather rough (a gravel, washboard road). This might explain why car rentals are so expensive coming out of Bozeman. After the initial disappointment in the general appearance of the interior, we settled in and made the best of our stay. If you are not expecting the Ritz, you will probably be okay with staying here. However, we planned on staying in a cabin with cooking facilities in order to save money by not eating all our meals out. Because of our schedule (self-imposed), we wound up eating out several times. We might have done just as well expense-wise by staying in town in one of the motels where you have daily maid service.Recommended for: Adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you for the feedback regarding your stay at the Cub’s Cache. Not living on site, we do rely on guest feedback to monitor quality control in our vacation rentals and are disappointed to hear that your stay did not exceed expectations. Our apologies for any housecleaning issues you may have encountered and know that we will work with staff to address any future incidents of that nature. We will also improve our communication in regards to our amenities. Because folks are traveling here to visit our national parks, we do only provide basic options in terms of television. A DVD player once resided on premises but was unfortunately absconded – we’ve since replaced it. Thanks again for bringing that to our attention along with your comments on cooking utensils. Again, we will strive to stay on top of items that “walk away”. Once again, thank you for your comments.

Owner info
About the owner: I own and manage all of my vacation rentals to provide the special attention that each guest deserves. I was a backcountry ranger in Yellowstone for many years and am happy to help you arrange activities in and outside of the park. My goal is for each guest to have a Yellowstone adventure that they will never forget.
Why the Owner Chose Gardiner:
Simply because of Yellowstone. The park is only 5 miles away and has so much to offer. I want to share that with others, especially kids.
