Hi Nancy – We had a wonderful time once again in our “home away from home”! My family always wants to return to Pacifica House for our coast getaways, short or long. We recommend any of the hikes at Cape Perpetua where near the beach, the kids found some giant agates which made their day. Wonderful home! We are so happy to have found this idyllic spot on the Oregon coast on our way up to Washington. Loved the proximity to the beach, being up a bit where it was not so windy, and just a couple minute walk to the beach. And this beach is amazing – wasn’t sure what to expect but the lack of rocks and ability to walk “forever” was divine. What a slice of heaven you have here. And the WiFi came in very handy for my husband! Selection of books is appreciated. Now – how can we continue on our journey without waking up to…..that view?! The kitchen was stocked so well with everything you need including an apron which came in handy, and the layout allowed we cooks to talk to everyone while cooking. Ok, for the good first...the house had a great design and layout with lots of comfy chairs and loungers. The master bath was nice with the jacuzzi tub and plenty of towels were provided in both baths. The kitchen has lots and lots of pots and pans and cooking utensiles. Lots of toys for little children. It is all one level so no stairs to climb, which is nice. A complimentary bottle of wine was a nice greeting. Now the bad...The espresso machine was filthy and needed scrubbing before we could even imagine using it. The coffee pot required a good rinsing out before use. The pull out cutting board was encrusted with who knows what type of food stuck on it. You will not be allowed to cook any "smelly" fish such as crab legs inside, which pretty much eliminates the ability to cook seafood on the coast at all. The views are far away from the beach (about 3 blocks) and, if you are like us, we really wanted to be able to see, smell and hear the ocean from the deck. Doesn't happen here and unlike the description you cannot see the ocean from all rooms...the master bedroom yes, the second bedroom yes if you crane your neck, and the third bedroom NO, not at all. The great room has a view, but again you must look around the houses in front of you. Now the worst was the hot tub! First of all these people charge $40 extra to use the hot tub (never had that experience before and we've utilized VRBO a number of times). This charge is to "drain and maintain" the tub for each new visitor. Unfortunately, we paid the extra only to find when we jumped in to enjoy it that it was cloudy and had nasty-looking fuzzy stuff floating all around. It was blatently obvious the hot tub had not been cleaned or drained in who knows how long. Needless to say we jumped right back out again and took showers to get whatever was in the hot tub off of us. We reported all of this to the owner who expressed her dismay, but never offered or sent a refund for the hot tub or the cleaning deposit. That would have been fair considering we had to clean the kitchen before we could use it and didn't get to enjoy the hot tub at all. Unfortunately, we would not recommend this listing if you are looking for a get away on the coast. Or, if you like the house, don't waste money on the hot tub fee.

Owner response:It is disappointing to receive a negative review – our first ever. While we are puzzled by the comments, we respect that there is a broad spectrum of guests, and realize that it’s hard to please everyone. Our caretaking “crew” completes an established protocol to ensure that our guests have a pleasant experience. Our home is professionally cleaned between all guests, and had a final check by our housekeeper the same day as arrival of the guests. Also, we are available to answer any questions that arise prior to or during a visit, and have caretakers available any time, night or day. The charge for the maintenance of the Hot Tub has always been a separate charge and not added to the nightly fee specifically because there are guests who choose not to utilize the Hot Tub, and we feel they shouldn’t pay an increased nightly fee if not utilizing the Hot Tub. The Hot Tub was cleaned 4 days before the arrival of guests with a final check the same day the guests arrived and was declared “crystal clear,” so we are a bit puzzled by the comments regarding the Hot Tub. Our Guidelines state: “Within 30 minutes of arrival, please report any problems with the Hot Tub to (the Hot Tub technician’s name and phone number)”. Our Hot Tub technician is always available, and is happy to come right over to remedy a problem should there be one. Cooking Crab. The Gas BBQ on the ocean side deck is the perfect place to cook your crab with a huge pot provided for this purpose. We thank this guest for taking the time to write. Comments from our guests are helpful in reinforcing what we are doing right, and also help us to improve our service to our future guests. We will do everything we can to ensure that your visit is a pleasant one.

We couldn’t believe that it is in the 60’s in December here! That only added to what is already a most perfect time in your home. Loved all the very comfortable leather furniture in the living/great room, the kids loved the futons for playing barbies and reading all the kids books, the gorgeous see-through wood fireplace is such a focal point in the great room – it makes it so cozy in the house. We normally stay in a motel at the beach but I think those days are over. There is so much more space to share in a home not to mention cooking is cheaper than going out for dinner. So it has been a win-win in every way. We all get along better in a home we decided! We can’t wait to come back, Nancy.

A good time was had by all. We even enjoyed the rain on Friday. This is the first time to stay and visit the area of Waldport. We all enjoyed our time together and also going about the area and shopping at the little shops. We will never forget our stay in your lovely place.

Arrived late Monday afternoon, what a beautiful place. Very excited first vacation with my husband in years. My son and his family enjoyed the great home. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. We went to the Aquarium today, how fascinating, ate at the fresh crab sea deli just before leaving Newport on the sightseeing towards Waldport, wonderful food, very fresh. Took a drive up the coast, Newport, Depoe Bay and Lincoln City. Fished this morning, caught 15 coho salmon, what fun, went out on the Chason with Bill. Heading back to Boise and Star, Idaho.

This is the nicest rental we have ever stayed at – we cannot thank you enough for making memories to last a lifetime. I wanted to ask where you got your beds – they are just perfect for my back. There is so much room in the great room to visit, read, play games, watch TV and DVDs too. We liked being able to sit at the “bar” sipping wine and talking to the “chef” making dinner! This house is a home away from home – it just has that feel. Very close beach access which we appreciated. You can be sure we’ll return. We have found a treasure.
