Picture a rustic setting - beautiful mountains surround you, a short walk takes you to an awesome river beach. Whether sitting on the deck enjoying the view, hiking, fishing, swimming, tubing on the Kings River or just bathing in the sun - whatever leisure time activities you indulge in, a feeling of deep contentment prevails.
Sophia House strives to offer more than just a place to eat and sleep while exploring nearby Eureka Springs. It also offers an ambiance not found in many places - you can feel it welcoming you as you walk through the door. The Sophia House provides a spirit of peace, relaxation and joy with the quiet, simple taste of its interior rooms and furnishings and its outside treasures - an awesome mountain view and short walk to the beautiful Kings River with its private primitive beach.
Sophia House is situated in The King of Glory Catholic Community, an 88 acre tract of secluded land, with several households which together maintain a small chapel on the land. As guests of The King of Glory Community, individuals and families staying at Sophia House will have available to them river access with a private primitive picnic area and beach on the Kings River and are invited and encouraged to visit the close by peaceful chapel for prayer and reflection.
Within a ten mile radius Eureka Springs offers many attractions such as the Great Passion Play, Christ of the Ozarks, live shows featuring song, music, and comedy of the Ozarks, Onyx Cave, horseback riding, canoeing on the Kings River, as well as antiques and many arts and crafts shops, spas, massage and other body/mind/spirit exalting experiences. There are numerous restaurants and cafès with tantalizing cuisines.
The quaint and beautiful architecture of Eureka is also worth spending time appreciating; you can walk through it or rent a horse and buggy to see the town. Take time to visit the historical Carnegie Library, 1850's Crescent Hotel, and go through the bell tower of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church (listed in "Ripley's Believe It or Not"), follow the side walk down to the main entrance, stop in the beautiful awe-inspiring church for a moment of prayer and tranquility before returning home.
A contented feeling will mark the return to the house at the end of a fun-filled day, whether it involves relaxing on the deck, reading a book in the library, watching a video or playing one of the board games provided, walking the property, visiting the chapel, or hanging out at the riverside. Come nightfall spread out a blanket on the lawn and see how many constellations or planets you can identify. It is truly awesome on a clear night! You might just see a shooting star!
This is the ultimate get-away experience. Come, experience the peace.

Sophia House is one of those rare places where the intensity of life melts away. It is a beautiful home that feels like you are in the middle of nowhere, completely surrounded by nature. Jane and her family are the most wonderful, and gracious, hosts. The house is imaculate, and no detail is left undone. Our entire family enjoyed playing and fishing in the river, and the kids had a ball just running around outside. My husband and I enjoyed the complete peace and solitude. A visit to Sophia house restores the soul.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Our family recently stayed at Sophia House and each of us thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Despite almost unbearable heat, we still were in awe of the beauty surrounding the house and the countryside. This is an authentic Ozarks' experience in a remote location yet still close enough to participate in other activities in Eureka Springs and surrounding areas. The house comfortably accommodated 6 people (4 adults and 2 teenagers) and had a full very workable kitchen where we cooked several meals. The Kings River area is incredibly beautiful, and we enjoyed daily walks through sweet-smelling fields to the river. We were particularly grateful to Jane, our most gracious host, who was so helpful by email as we planned our trip and gave us many recommendations on restaurants and local activities. She greeted us with a lovely gift basket and made us feel very welcome. She and her family clearly take great pride in the property and you can see how it has been nurtured and given much TLC. We would highly recommend Sophia House and hope to visit again. I can't even imagine how beautiful it will be in the fall!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

I recently stayed for week long family reunion and I would recommend Sophia House as a great place to stay, especially if you have children interested in river activities. We spent most of our time down the river fishing, craw-fishing, swimming and snorkeling; the latter activity great fun in revealing a great many more fish than could be seen just by looking from above. The house was beautifully presented, very clean and well equipped. Thankfully the air con was very efficient as we were there during a heat wave but were always comfortable inside. Jane was everything you could ask of a good hostess, identifying wildlife like the water snakes (harmless), telling us the good fishing spots and even putting up solar lights to mark the path to the river after we mentioned going there at night. I would love to come back if it was not such a long way from Australia.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

The house was beautiful and in a great location. The renters were amazing and greeted us with a lovely basket full of treats. It was perfect for our family of 8 and was in great condition. I would certainly recommend this to anyone who wants a cozy and comfortable house with a gorgeous view in the mountains. I will definitely come back whenever I visit Eureka Springs!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Our family stayed at Sophia House in July of 2010. The house is situated in a very quiet, out of the way location, with an easy walk to the Kings River. The house was immaculate, and quite comfortable even for our large family. We are used to the rivers in Kansas, and so were thrilled by how clear the river was; we went tubing daily, & the guys went fishing several times (didn't catch much, but that might just be their luck). This cabin is off the beaten path and offers a quiet, reflective kind of atmosphere, the owners are gracious, and it is an easy drive to Eureaka Springs and Beaver Lake.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

Our desire, and one I believe that is felt by most families, is for peace and harmony. This desire led to my search for a vacation destination that would provide such an atmosphere. When I discovered Sophie House on VRBO and, after speaking with Jane Reuter, I felt in my heart that God was calling our family to stay at Sophia House. As our family traveled into the Ozark Mountains for the first time, ÄWE is what we all felt. The beauty of the North Arkansas was truly breath taking! A sense of excitement and expectation was certaily exuded by all six of us. When we arrived at the King of Glory property we were warmly welcomed by Jane, her sweet daughter, and Lucia, their friendly chocolate lab. They introduced us to Sophia House where we found what was truly a home away from home. The peace we were seeking was found in that charming house. Our eyes could feast on the beautiful Ozark Mountains and the beauty of nature surrounding the house. A personal favorite was the beautiful blooming Rose of Sharon tree visible through the kitchen window and the myriad of butterflies flitting to and fro. In the evening, the front lawn and surrounding pastures were enchanting with the multitude of fireflies sending out their signals. To our delight, several occasions we spotted a roaming deer or rabbit. Then, of course, there was the amazing Kings River. The walk there, surrounded by trees, fields of swaying wildflowers, and blue sky almost close enough to touch, was a peaceful and joyful experience. A reflection on Sophia House would not be complete without mention of the private Chapel. It was truly a gift to walk a few minutes to the King of Glory Chapel where time seemed to stand still amid the silent peace that only God can give. Yes, the plaque that stands above the inside front door to Sophia House is very fitting: "Be still and know that I am God." Our time spent at Sophia House was a gift from God to our family. We experienced His nearness in many ways and will hold forever in our hearts the memory of the priceless time we spent celebrating being a family. We send out a heartfelt and warm thank you to the Reuters for their hospitality during our stay at Sophia House.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Sophia House vacation rental home has opened in Eureka Springs, AR, the quaint Victorian-style tourist destination famous for shopping, dining, the Crescent Hotel, and The Great Passion Play. Operated by David and Jane Reuter, Sophia House is a 1,200 square foot home packed with modern conveniences and comforts, yet is nestled in the untouched natural beauty of the Kings River Valley, about 6 miles from Eureka Springs. It is a true nature-lover’s paradise, with private access to the beautiful (and kid friendly) Kings River only a few minutes walk away for swimming, fishing, and floating. There is a quiet, private chapel even closer than that. Peace and quiet quickly replaces stress and noise, and city-dwellers will never see the night sky as large as it appears from the sprawling deck of Sophia House. The immaculate home is smoke-free and pet-free. It is beautifully furnished, and boasts custom woodwork throughout. A generous basket of goodies await the weary traveler. The three bedrooms are roomy and comfortable, and the two full baths are as spotless as the rest of the house. The kitchen is fully appointed with brand-new appliances, cookware and eating utensils, and is even stocked with basic spices, olive oil, and a nice selection of teas. Amenities at Sophia House also include a well-stocked library and private reading room, and a brand-new front-loading washer & dryer. The Reuters, who live nearby, have provided Sophia House as a haven for families. “Our vision for Sophia House is to provide a place for families to get in touch with what’s important in life,” says Jane Reuter. “We want families to come together in the beauty of nature without the distraction of cable television and video games.” David Reuter, LPC is also available for personal or group counseling, and these arrangements can be made separately.“The heart of the journey,” says travel writer Jim Cosgrove, “was the time we spent sunning and fishing on the Kings River. Besides our own conversation, there were only the sounds of nature; no cars, trucks, planes, phones, or radios - just the sound of the river, the birds, and the breeze.”For those with the shopping or sightseeing bug, operators David and Jane Reuter can recommend any number of places to go and things to do in and around Eureka Springs, one of Arkansas’ tourist meccas. World famous Branson, Missouri and Silver Dollar City are also close enough for a day trip. The few extra minutes it takes tDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
