We rented this condo from 11/13/07 to 11/20/07. The care and concern for her tenants (us) was shown by Hera Tunggal even before we departed our home in Florida. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a basket of Hawiian "goodies". The apartment was clean and recently completely renovated. It truly felt as if we were in a home away from home. The swimming pool, bar-b-que area, and hot tub were all very nice to come back to after a day of sightseeing. The apartment is on the sixth floor with both ocean and mountain views. I would (and will) recommend renting this unit to our friend and look forward to staying here again ourselves in the not too distant future. I wish that all of our rentals were as beautiful as this one. Again, thank you Hera for being so thoughtful.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, people with disabilities, families with young children.

We were very impressed when we first walked into Hera's condo, from the layout to the nice furnishings and the way it is decorated, and most significantly to the view of the ocean and the mountains of West Maui in the background. This view is enjoyed from every room in the condo (except the bathroom). We reserved Hera's condo almost a year prior based on the reviews and pictures, but were pleasantly surprised when we arrived with how the pictures did not do it justice. We spent a month in her condo and this feeling did not wane as we were mesmerized by watching whales, canoes, kite surfers, etc. each day as we enjoyed our morning coffee and meals from the lanai. My wife especially enjoyed that Hera had binoculars to get close up views of the whales. The kitchen is fully stocked with all needed equipment which we utilized as we ate almost entirely in the condo during our stay. The complex is very well maintained and located in the less busy North Kihei district but this location makes it easy to get to all areas of the island. We appreciated the beach chairs and coolers which we enjoyed as we traveled to all our favorite beaches. Dear Hera, on this way again many thanks for all you've done. I enjoyed my stay at the condo very much. Also again many thanks for the welcome present and your phone call. The condo is clean and very well equipped - and the view from the balcony is really great. It is also quiet although my stay was during the Thanksgiving week (sometimes you can hear street noises but that's nothing disturbing). Kihei is a good location for sightseeing trips to every direction on Maui and it has also great beaches and a lot of restaurants - so there is nothing to complain about. Hera is really nice to deal with - she answered all my questions immediately (and I had a lot of questions...), gave a lot of suggestions and was also interested in my activities. I rented this condo a year in advance as the reviews just sold me on the quality of Hera's place. The reviews did not let me down; we just finished our stay (Oct31-Nov.11), and had a wonderful time. This condo is exactly what we were looking for, quiet, some street noise but nothing too loud, beautiful view from the balcony, and in the right place (Kihei). We found Kihei to be the quieter side of the island (other than staying in Hana), yet still maintained the available shopping and restaurants so you were not running up the coast all the time. Maui, in general, is pretty expensive and has become fairly commercial over the years, so to be able to escape to this nice condo was a luxury we were willing to pay for. Hera really went out of her way to leave everything you might use on a vacation in her place. I often would said to my wife, "we need to run to the store to get (fill in the blank)", only to have her respond "I think there might be "one" in the closet." This must of happened three or four times and always made us laugh. For an owner to provide those extra amenities is pretty good in my mind. We have stayed in many other condos around the world and never felt so at home, thanks to Hera for that. If I was to leave any negative-type comments at all it would be that the couch was not comfortable at all (we moved the chair from the bedroom out), the bed is small (double), and they kick you out of the hot tub (that is always really hot) at 10:00pm, but for us those were very minor annoyances and did nothing to affect what was a very good vacation. This condo is great! The view is amazing and the accommodations outstanding. The location is perfect and only a short walking distance to the post office, craft faire, fastfood, grocery store and shops. The bed was very comfortable and the living area and kitchen quite adequate. The lanai had seating and a georgeous view to watch the sunset. This was the second time we have rented this condo, and hope to get to use it again in the future. Beach amenities were supplied, i.e. towels, boogie board, snorkle gear, umbrella. This owner takes pride in her property and truly cares that her guests are satisfied. We would highly recommend this property to anyone, and have referred friends and acquaintances. Our family rented this condo in July 2012 and the condo was perfect for our family. The view from the lanai was perfect and we spent every night enjoying the view. Hera was very helpful and very responsive to all our questions and concerns. The condo was very clean so much so that my wife commented many times that it exceeded her expectations. Linen’s were plentiful and the laundry room very close. Having a kitchen with all the utensils was a great, making dinner prep a breeze. I go to Maui yearly, and I have stayed in this complex seven or eight times, and this is the best 1br I've been in here. You can easily find an inferior condo to Hera's for more money. It is clean and well stocked with new (at least recent) appliances. I will return next year if a slot is available. Another plus is that Hera is a good owner to deal with. She is businesslike and it's clear that she wants to rent the condo. Since nobody likes a review that has no negatives, the only con I can think of is that the wind can make the balcony (lanai) unusable in the afternoons (30+ mph possible). This is Kihei Maui, every northerly facing oceanfront condo is subject to this. A good view can mean high wind. I came to Maui to windsurf so it didn't bother me one bit. This was a great little apartment perfect for our stay. Clean, well appointed and amazing view of the gorgeous blue sea. The apartment is also opposite the bus stops for the service that runs along Kihei road, it's only a dollar and a really good service. The management company that looked after the unit were very helpful, and Hera had a welcome basket delivered which was lovely! There's lots of useful things in the apartment such as boogie boards, snorkeling gear and beach umbrellas. Also a cooler, my one suggestion would be some ice blocks for the cooler in the freezer. We improvised with freezing a couple of bottles of water, but couldn't fit everything in. There's a small concierge service in the main office, and they were great for booking some trips. Amazing unit!!! It is exactly as advertised. The furnishings, linens, kitchen essentials, etc are all of the best quality. Talk about clean and organized!!! The view from the lanai is amazing and many long hours can be spend just enjoying. The complex is small by some comparisons and nicely maintained. Majority of the residents are repeat renters or owners. Love the hot tub and BBQ area. Close to everything in Kihei. I liked being more north away from the bottleneck around the big beaches. The beach here is good for sitting and small walks. If want more "play and social" beaches, you can get to them quickly. I loved Sugar Beach which is just a short drive. Can walk but I liked to start at Kihei Canoe club. You can then walk for miles or find that perfect spot for play. This really is an amazing unit for the price. I miss it already!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, people with disabilities.

I have been to the Hawaiian islands several times before, and my time at Hera's condo has by far been the best. If you really want a lazy and restful Hawaiian vacation that feels as if you haven't traveled an inch from your doorstep then this is the place to stay at. Hera has this condo stacked with everything from any kitchen appliance you might need (for those times when you don't feel like restaurant hunting), to beach supplies. In addition, the convenient location of this condo allows you to stay close to the city while at the same time having the beach right outside the property. Why the Owner Chose Kauhale Makai - Village by the Sea:
There are a myriad of reasons why my husband and I chose to purchase a condo in Maui, but the basis of almost all those reasons would be our upbringing in a tropical country. The flora and fauna of Maui are reminiscent of a purer version of the island where we grew up, as do the local arts and crafts, while the cities and shopping centers of Maui offer the urban comforts that we have grown accustomed to. Also, Maui is home to many varieties of exotic, tropical fruits that aren’t found very easily on the mainland, such as breadfruit. Having grown up eating these fruits, getting to taste them again in Maui is like reliving a little slice of our childhoods. Our favorite thing about Maui, however, would probably be the temperate climate. Of all the places we’ve visited, Maui has the no-contest best weather. During the summer, it is comfortingly warm without being too humid or dry while during winter one would never need more than a light jacket. Finally, we decided to purchase our condo because we have realized that even beyond vacationing in Maui, we would enjoy living there after retiring. With all the island activities, such as snorkeling, kayaking, hula lessons, and even simply relaxing in the beach, there is no shortage of things to do; and the welcoming nature of the locals means that Maui already feels like home.

My husband and I live in the city, amid all its hustle and bustle, so while in Maui we love being able to relax at the condo while still having the opportunity to work from our laptops. The main difference is that we get to see the breathtaking views of the ocean, and if we’re lucky, maybe even whales in the wintertime. One can also go for walks in the evening to watch the sunset or simply enjoy it from the lanai. The condo and the surrounding complex have so much to offer, from the swimming pool to barbecue grills, to a complete and modern-looking kitchen in our condo, where one can enjoy preparing simple meals while watching the waves crash upon the shore.
