COASTING is a lovely, private villa located on the turquoise shores of the Caribbean Sea. Surrounded by 5 acres of private, lush, mature landscape, it borders the sea until you reach the white sands of Bloody Bay beach. The forest reserve of Tobago is your backdrop. Truly a vision back to the days of Robinson Crusoe. Vistas are of sea, sand, and forest. Time stands still as you explore the grounds and stumble upon a relic of Tobago's colonial past or amble along the stream that trickles and drops through the property. Your heart skips a beat as adventure and romance take hold of you. Romantic, intimate and beautiful!
Just a few minutes drive from the popular beaches of Englishman's Bay and Castara or the hiking trails through the forest reserve, you can treat yourself by finding new treasures each day of your vacation and it is all right on your doorstep.
COASTING: Past the hotels, past the city heat, past the tourist areas...
A little further along the coast to where the waiting pirogues are laden with seine, the sea turtles swim and the frigate birds circle around you.
A little further along the road to where the vegetation is a deeper shade of green, the rivers flow in the dry season and the mot mots glide by at eye level.
Treat yourself to something truly unique. This is the real Tobago.
Beautiful, intimate, private!

Our stay at Coastings was just what the doctor ordered. We were looking for something away from the crowds and relaxing. The villa is situated in a stunning area, in the north side on the island away from the more touristy areas. The views across the bay, the beautiful gardens and its private setting provided for all our needs. You definitely need a car to get your basic daily needs but it will also enable you to get to see the island. You don't need to go far to experience the delightful bays and beaches such as Englishman's Bay but the island has so much to see you may choose to go further. There are some interesting walks to explore from the villa - Dead man's Bay is very close by but you do have to scramble down a steep slope, okay for those who don't mind taking a few risks! well worth it when you get to the beach to swim in the blue waters while the pelicans dive for fish!! The villa is comfortable, has everything you need, for the first time in a long time we spent evenings listening to music, playing scrabble and talking to each other along with a few drinks because there is no TV (what a change!). In short this type of holiday does get you away from everything and was exactly what we needed to recharge our batteries.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This was our first visit to Tobago & we had a great time..." Coasting" was a breath of fresh air, peaceful & tranquil.. & the birds were amazing! The owners Cindy & Fred were so helpful but not obtrusive. A meal in the fridge the first night, very much appreciated. The beaches are just beautiful & its great to take the dogs for a walk too! Fred arranged a birding walk with a local & very famous guide who was just incredible.. 25 new birds in 3hrs! Thanks Cindy & Fred for being so hospitable xDid you find this review helpful? Just back from an 11 night stay at Coastings - a very comfortable villa in a stunning location. The description and photos capture it accurately. The property is well designed, with comfortable internal accommodation (kitchen facilities are excellent, though we grilled almost all our meals outside), and we very quickly felt it was our home from home. Outside, the upper covered verandah and lower deck both give wonderful views of sea, trees, flowers and hummingbirds. My favourite spot was at the end of the garden by a firepit - impossibly beautiful views of the bay, rocks, sea and green tree-clad slopes. This is definitely the perfect place to stay for anyone who loves natural beauty. Hummingbird sitings are a daily norm, but we were also visited by a pair of mot mots. The helpfulness of owners Fred and Cindy also cannot be overemphasised. They went further than any other rental owners we have come across in helping to make our stay a great one - from buying in a couple of specific food items before our arrival (in addition to the generous food and drink supplies provided as standard), to offering advice and tips on local bays and beaches, sharing their own grown tomatoes and gifts of avocados, while never intruding on our sense of privacy. Their two friendly and lovable dogs, Cleo and Toby, also made us feel very welcome, coming to see us in the mornings and evenings and always keen to join us on walks - whether to Bloody Bay, along the river or along local tracks. They were great fun! One point to be aware of: there is a public beach facility in Bloody Bay. Though not itself as issue, and not visible from the villa, there was occasional music played there that can be heard from the villa. This does mean the peace and quiet is sometimes disrupted. However, this should not put you off. Most of the time it was quiet, and the setting of this property is so special - one of the most naturally beautiful places I have stayed. There is plenty to do locally - ask about Gravel Beach - a tiny gem. And meals at the nearby Sunshine restaurant are highly recommended - tasty and often resulting in friendly chats with local residents. If you love Tobago, you will love Coasting. If you have never been to Tobago, go there - it's a magical island and Coasting is the perfect place to enjoy it from.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Just back from two weeks staying at Coasting and it has been one of our best family holidays ever. The villa is excellent and the ground and location beautiful. I can not recommend it too highly to anybody looking for a holiday away from it all. A slight word of caution if you are looking for any kind of night life the only sort around the villa are the night creatures not the party animals and you will need a car to get about. Having said that the North of the island has a real get back to nature feel usually not found whist staying in a villa providing such a high standard of accommodation. My only regret is that we didn't book for three weeks not just two.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the S family for being such great guests and for their kind words. They sent their first enquiry to us about 11 months ago and we are delighted that 'Coasting' was worth the wait. It is a real privilege for us to have shared our Tobago home with so many wonderful guests over the years. Our guestbooks at the villa are favourite reads for many. We fully understand that after a few weeks of holiday bliss, life is busy again upon your return home. Our guests often cannot find the time to write a 'Coasting' review. We are very grateful then to those who have written reviews but we thank all of our previous guests for choosing us. To those of you looking for that special waterfront place for a Tobago vacation, intimate, beautiful and private, we welcome you to send us a note. With our thanks and best wishes for a great vacation, Cindy & Fred

My husband and two of our friends stayed here in March 2011. We had an absolutely amazing time. The scenery is stunning with incredible views from both decking areas. It is totally peaceful and the bird life is fantastic. The villa itself is beautifully appointed with everything you need and Cindy and Fred are perfect hosts - always there ready to help if you need them but also unobtrusive. We all absolutely loved our time there and hope to visit again one day.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Coasting is a beautiful villa complementing its surroundings overlooking Bloody Bay and the backdrop of the lush rainforest. The villa is well equipped to provide an extremely comfortable holiday home supported by friendly caretaker and housemaids.A car is essential for touring(take note of petrol station locations, and watch out for potholes in roads that make driving lively)and for buying provisions from supermarkets or roadside stalls. The stalls provide good quality inexpensive produce.Seafood is easily obtained from fishmarkets in many villages and from local fishermen.A walk through the rainforest with a local guide is a must. Snorkling/scuba diving from one of the hire boats at the south end of the island or from Speyside at the north end (equipment for hire),whether first time or serious diver, the guides ensure you are in safe hands.Pirates Bay at Charlottville is a good bay for snorkling but has no facilities so take or hire equipment. Some restaurants we found good are Riverside at Parlatuvier,Sharon & Phebs at Charlottville and the Blue Crab in Scarborough, just some of the many offering great food.At Castara on Thursday and Saturday you can buy fresh baked bread from a wood fired clay oven. Its really great and freezes well. The very helpful and friendly owners of Coasting have compiled a folder of invaluable information about the Island giving local contacts, beaches and walks recommended in the locality of the Villa enabling you to enjoy the less commercial Tobago at its best. This has been our third time at Coasting so if you are looking for a memorable holiday in a Tropical Paradise whether relaxing in the lovely garden, watching the birds or just enjoying the views, Coasting is the place for you. Have a great holiday!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

Coasting totally lived up to its promise, well equipped, clean and stylish the property had a comfortable family home feel with enough space for our family to spread out. The owners are friendly and very helpful as are the locals just up the road at the village of Bloody Bay. A car is essential and its best to stock up with some provisions at the supermarket near the airport as soon as possible. Local shops are reasonable but have limited choice. Nearby villages provide lovely fresh fish and fruit and veg can be bought for very little from roadside vendors. Restaurants tend not to have a menu but offer a reasonably priced meal of chicken or fish which is usually excellent and local - no chips or burgers! There is lots of information at the villa guiding you to the best beaches, restaurants and places to visit - a week is not quite enough to cover it all so if you can - take two. We much enjoyed a walk in the rainforest with knowledgable local guide - Darlington; diving with manta rays at speyside and the glass bottom boat trip to little tobago bird sanctuary. Best of all was Englishmans Bay just a few minutes drive, tropical deserted paradise with the best snorkling ever! Enjoy.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.
