Why the Owner Chose Canaan Valley

Canaan Valley is such a unique place for someone who is looking for a truly beautiful and relaxing mountain experience. There is only one stop light in the county and that is 35 miles away! There are no chain restaurants or hotels, just local shops and restaurants that reflect the individual character of this incredibly beautiful region.

The Unique Benefits at this House

The three acre setting has trails that lead from the house to special areas such as a firepit, a spring fed pond, and a lean-to hand made from logs which is a favorite hangout for kids. Spruce Island Lake is a short 10 minute walk away where we keep a canoe for our visitors use. The lake is surrounded by a walking trail with several benches along the way that showcase exceptional mountain vistas.
We can take our two Samoyeds and not see another person for the entire hour it takes us to get around the lake. The privacy and serenity of the area is what draws us to it.

Owner's Map of Canaan Valley

We are a family of five who take great pleasure in escaping the rat race and returning to our serene mountain getaway. The house is always better than we remembered and we are always sorry to leave but refreshed and reinvigorated.

Loved this house!

Guest: A very satisfied renter (Laurel Springs, NJ)
Date of Stay: 06/18/11 Review Submitted: 06/28/11

We had a group of 8, including a young teenager, and two 70-something year olds, and this house was just perfect. With 5 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms, there was plenty of space for everybody. The kitchen is not huge, but it is more than well-stocked, with several full sets of dishes, and a nice assortment of pots and pans. The house has lots of storage space in general, with a dresser and full-size closets in each bedroom. Unfortunately, we didn't have great weather for our visit, so we weren't able to take full advantage of the lake and hiking trails, etc. But we certainly enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, especially the large, covered porch, which is actually so deep as to be able to sit out there during a pretty strong rain storm and not get wet. The owner was very responsive to questions, both about the house itself, as well as the general area. The location is a bit remote, which we enjoyed, but there are 2 convenience stores within 10-15 minutes, and a full grocery store about 25 minutes away, as well as some good local restaurants. We would all go back to this house in a heartbeat, and I really hope that we get the opportunity!!

Great house, with wonderfully secluded location. We had a full crew and there was plenty of room for all. The use of the canoes was a great perk. We had a bear visit the driveway one evening and the kids loved looking for frogs in the pond on the lot. We got a kick out of the abundance of coffee machines at our disposal. Clearly a lot of like minded coffee drinkers rent this place.

A wonderful, secluded & spacious home filled with tasteful charm that will invite you to relax! Sitting out on the porch your senses will experience the mountain air & the wildlife that make their home in the valley. With plenty of nearby activities such as horseback riding, canoeing, hiking, listening to live country music, antiquing and visiting the local towns of Davis & Thomas, you will also find that relaxation easily blends in with those activities!!
