We had some plumbing issues that were resolved very promptly by maintenance staff. The support staff overall was absolutely wonderful. Outside the very-promptly resolved plumbing issues, the cabin was quite relaxing and well-stocked, definitely home away from home. Nice and quiet, with a stream right next to the cabin. We really enjoyed canoeing on the lake, being so close to Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, and having such super-easy access to Dolly Sods (within Timberline development). The WIFI worked fine. Nicely decorated, well-lit interior. Pet-friendly means dog-friendly, we inquired on bringing our cat and were told no cats. Did end up bringing a dog. Would recommend, but pet-friendly should be changed to dog-friendly.

Loved this house!
Loved this house!
We had a group of 8, including a young teenager, and two 70-something year olds, and this house was just perfect. With 5 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms, there was plenty of space for everybody. The kitchen is not huge, but it is more than well-stocked, with several full sets of dishes, and a nice assortment of pots and pans. The house has lots of storage space in general, with a dresser and full-size closets in each bedroom. Unfortunately, we didn't have great weather for our visit, so we weren't able to take full advantage of the lake and hiking trails, etc. But we certainly enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, especially the large, covered porch, which is actually so deep as to be able to sit out there during a pretty strong rain storm and not get wet. The owner was very responsive to questions, both about the house itself, as well as the general area. The location is a bit remote, which we enjoyed, but there are 2 convenience stores within 10-15 minutes, and a full grocery store about 25 minutes away, as well as some good local restaurants. We would all go back to this house in a heartbeat, and I really hope that we get the opportunity!!

Great house, with wonderfully secluded location. We had a full crew and there was plenty of room for all. The use of the canoes was a great perk. We had a bear visit the driveway one evening and the kids loved looking for frogs in the pond on the lot. We got a kick out of the abundance of coffee machines at our disposal. Clearly a lot of like minded coffee drinkers rent this place.

About the owner: We are a family of five who take great pleasure in escaping the rat race and returning to our serene mountain getaway. The house is always better than we remembered and we are always sorry to leave but refreshed and reinvigorated.
Why the Owner Chose Canaan Valley:
Canaan Valley is such a unique place for someone who is looking for a truly beautiful and relaxing mountain experience. There is only one stop light in the county and that is 35 miles away! There are no chain restaurants or hotels, just local shops and restaurants that reflect the individual character of this incredibly beautiful region.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The three acre setting has trails that lead from the house to special areas such as a firepit, a spring fed pond, and a lean-to hand made from logs which is a favorite hangout for kids. Spruce Island Lake is a short 10 minute walk away where we keep a canoe for our visitors use. The lake is surrounded by a walking trail with several benches along the way that showcase exceptional mountain vistas. We can take our two Samoyeds and not see another person for the entire hour it takes us to get around the lake. The privacy and serenity of the area is what draws us to it.
