This house was exactly what we were looking for - a clean, comfortable home away from home with owners who were extremely gracious hosts. . The house was well stocked with almost everything we needed and the owners provided lots of suggestions about things to see and do that only locals would know about. The grounds around the house are filled with extensive flower, vegetable, and herb gardens which we were welcome to use. The owners treated us as family and we had a very enjoyable and relaxing time on Vancouver Island.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

The minute we walked into the Hummingbird we felt an instant sense of family and coziness. Our stay was during the Christmas Holidays so we had packed what decorations we could but I knew that it wouldn't be that great. To our surprise, the home was decorated and it made us so happy. The view of the ocean from the living room is mesmerizing and strolling around the property is like a little wonderland. Local artistry occupies the home as well as a touch of the owners hippie chic taste. Our only problem was our inability to play the beautiful mini Grand Piano that stood front and center in the homes dining area.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.

My spouse and I love to visit an area and get out and investigate the natural elements. This wonderful setting was perfect. We traveled to the four 'corners' of the island with relative ease (it is a large island) with day trips that made this centrally located home a great location. Our primary goal was to lengthen the list of birds that we have seen together. The rufus-sided hummingbirds at the feeder outside the kitchen window was a delight as there were up to 8 hummers in the camera viewfinder at one time in early July. The ski slopes are nearby for those interested. Bicycles were everywhere as the island highways are welcoming to bikes. The four lane highways were swept and the terrain could be designed for flat rides or gut wrenching mountain rides. (We didn't do either...but lots of folks did.) We are also scuba divers and there was lots of talk about the diving in the area being world class. We didn't do it this time....but dry suits would be required. There were many dive shops in the area and kayak rentals abound. The home is wonderfully decorated with original artwork and the living-kitchen-dining room is warm and inviting for all social activities. The grounds are also a delight as the owners have labored with love to bring the Earth's blossoms to bear. The strawberries in the back garden were some of the sweetest I have ever tasted. The owners were home for our visit due to an injury that required their plans were cancelled. We are so glad that this generated an opportunity to meet these fine folks and their dogs...and hope the broken leg and related injuries recover rapidly. IF vacationers would be looking for a quiet stay put place, this would be an ideal spot for them. The living room explodes with sunlight in the morning and the front balcony has a covered roof that makes for a relaxing and comfortable reading spot. The back deck has a nice grill and is surrounded by plants that generate a cozy atmosphere.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers.
