Atascadero house description
Welcome to The Dragonfly Ranch
Imagine waking to a vision of tranquil beauty... Stepping out onto a vast 3,000 square foot deck as your eyes take in the luxuriant view of horses grazing, wild flowers blooming, endless sky and an ocean view with not another house to be seen. Just you and the natural world nestled in the rolling hills of the central coast..
The Dragonfly Ranch was originally a portion of a historical 6,000 acre Spanish ranch named Asuncion (or to rise up), the Asuncion took it's name because of it's high elevation (1800 feet). The view is very similar to the Hearst Castle's as it is the same elevation, just more rolling mountains. The amazing thing is that half of the 6,000 acres is not even fenced so you can hike for hours without ever touching pavement or just walk the private 3.5 mile winding road.
This property is so unique that it is truly something one has to experience to believe just how magical it is.

A magical place!
A magical place!
My in-laws flew from the East Coast for a week of California fun. We met them at SFO and drove down together. When we arrived here we were all in awe. My sister-in-law was almost in tears at the beauty of the location and how special this house is. I don't think the pictures do it justice. The house is very secluded, which was great for a family reunion. There is plenty of hiking & exploring that you can do right from the house. We spent every afternoon and night on the deck, sipping wine and looking at the stars. It was a great homebase for all the exploring we wanted to do - wine tasting, hearst castle, beach time. When we were home the kids didn't turn on the TV once(!) - there was just too much to explore; horses to feed, a small playhouse for the kids - I can't think of a better location for kids. We travel and VRBO quite a bit - this house was exceptionally stocked with everything you might need (Towels, Toilet Paper, etc). This was just such a special place and we're thinking of coming back every summer! Thank you Kristine for a great vacation!

Perfect Ranch Retreat
Perfect Ranch Retreat
Hi - I booked this place for trip with a group of friends (6 people) for a golf / wine tasting weekend. It is a beautiful ranch - about 2 1/2 hours north of Santa Barbara and 15 minutes from wine tasting in Paso Robles. From 101 it is about 30 minutes - up a hill in a secluded area that is very private and quiet. It has some amazing views - looking over valleys and the ocean in the distance. It has a large deck with nice outside furniture to relax and enjoy the view. There are some horses on the property which are great to watch and interact as well as a friendly resident cat. The place has a nice big jacuzzi - BBQ for cooking - and a full kitchen for whatever you would ever need for cooking and dining. Bathrooms fully stocked with soap and everything as well. The pictures are very accurate - the place has great decor and atmosphere - TV's with Cable- Stereo - BlueRay DVD- Stereo with outside speakers. Everything is done up 1st class and Kristine spared no expense in all aspects of this place. We did bring a iphone speaker set so we can play our tunes or you can bring a plug and play out of the Stereo there. It was a wonderful stay and very comfortable for 6 people. There is a art studio out back - really a self built little studio with a bed and couch and a great retreat for those that would like a bit more privacy from the main house. I would highly recommend it for friends, or families. We did most of our meals there with breakfast and in the evenings we did BBQ, and enjoyed the jacuzzi at night under a star lit sky unseen in LA. I would recommend you go to Vons - which is back down right past the 101 fwy to Traffic Way and right on El Camino Real and Vons is 3 blocks on the left in the Center with a Rite Aid. Kristine, the owner was very helpful with any questions and making sure we were all set when we arrived. I would highly recommend wine tasting in the area - and also our big night out for dinner a friend that lives in Paso recommended IL Corte Italian Restaurant (Downtown Paso Robles) - and it was AMAZING!

Stunning Views at the Dragonfly Ranch!
Stunning Views at the Dragonfly Ranch!
We had such an amazing and relaxing time at your place and the views and scenery were absolutely breathtaking. We took our three boys and our daughter in-law for this getaway weekend and everyone had such a good time. We just sat on the deck for hours one day and could not believe the view. The hiking, horses and cows were just an added bonus. We all look forward to our next trip to the Dragonfly!!! Thank you so much for sharing your ranch.

Amazing in every way
Amazing in every way
Our stay at The Dragonfly Ranch was amazing in every way. We live in southern California where our views are freeways and our neighbor's house. Life is rushed and as a family with young kids we are always running between one activity to the next. Pulling through the gates of Asuncion Ranch left us speechless as all we saw were oak trees, rolling hills and wildlife. Upon coming to Dragonfly Ranch we saw vistas that went for miles, horses that greeted us, the friendliest cat came running, and we entered the house which looked like a 5 star ranch hotel. We chose Dragonfly Ranch as a perfect 1/2 way meeting spot for getting together with friends from SF, to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday and to let our young kids play and run. My husband agreed that we chose the best possible location to celebrate his birthday. He would sit on the cozy patio chairs for hours enjoying his Corona and admiring the views while the kids explored and played. I lost count of how many times he commented on the view, how great the ranch was, or how we are definitely coming back. I have never seen him sleep so well (the beds are so plush!) or so relaxed as he was at the ranch. It helped him disconnect from a stressful work life back home (it helped there was minimal cell service!). My girls (ages 5 & 7) loved everything about the ranch – the horses, pony, cat, hikes, playhouse, swing, tree house, and the overall ability to run around all day and explore new things. We went into Morro Bay for dinner on Saturday and we couldn’t get back to the ranch fast enough to enjoy the sunset, scenery, and view of the ocean. We are VRBO owners and greatly appreciate Kristine's hospitality and her opening up her home to us for the weekend, as the ranch feels far more comfortable than any previous rental we have stayed in. We are already planning for when we can go back to the ranch and explore more of the absolute beauty of the area. The Dragnofly Ranch is truly amazing in every way and created 50th birthday memories for our family that we will cherish!

what a wonderful place
what a wonderful place
Hi Kristine, what a beautiful place you have. We hiked up the hills, feed the horses, enjoyed the hot tub, and ate some wonderful meals(fish from Morro Bay and bread from Hush Harbor bakery). How fun to hear cattle mooing in the morning and watch hawks soar toward the ocean. I loved your decor and the very comfortable beds. Your cat is great and really a friendly greeter. We felt like friends who had been invited for a visit. We will gladly rent again. Thank you

I don't know where to begin. The property is absolutely beautiful. The land and the views are breathtaking. The ranch itself was perfect and built to enjoy the surroundings. There is a deck that you can easily spend hours on looking out into the hills and the ocean - and the animal neighbors (horses, wild turkeys). Inside the ranch is a great kitchen (which is very well stocked) and living area. The bedrooms (which aren't pictured) are lovely and extremely comfortable - I slept extremely well. Each room has doors that lead to the surrounding deck. The furniture and the decor are amazing - lots of great antique pieces throughout the ranch. We had a great time at the ranch. While we ventured out into town on a friday evening, we would've been perfectly happy staying at the ranch the whole time (which is what we did all day saturday). Some of us stayed at the ranch and drank mimosas on the deck while talking and taking in the view. A couple of us went hiking. While there aren't any clearly marked trails, it was very fun to just venture into the greenery. Dragonfly Ranch was exactly what we were looking for. Relaxing, comfortable, tranquil and private. We really felt like we "got away" for the weekend. This is a magical place. Kristine was fantastic during the entire process, from describing the property and what there is to do, to making sure we has everything we needed. She is a wealth of information and very generous in sharing in. Everything about this experience was fabulous!

This is a wonderful property if you are looking for independent and peaceful vacation options. The owner(s) are accommodating and gracious and the property itself is well-stocked which is important because it is somewhat remote from conveniences. We rented it for a family event and it was a wonderful gathering place for all, even though not all stayed there. The view straight out to the Pacific (some 6 miles away) is majestic and, when the moon is not a factor, the view of the stars is breathtaking. All appliances and conveniences are up to date. We would recommend a trip to Von's or Albertson's to stock up beforehand. Get coffee, juice, bacon and eggs, and prepare for a real ranch experience! Although I'm not an interior decorator of any ilk, I would say that the interior fittings are simply amazing and everyone said that whenever they took a second look, they noticed something different about their view. The resident cat's personality is almost worth the trip itself. The 3 horses are wonderful entertainment and very comfortable with guests. The drive from 101 to the ranch is not something to be taken lightly, because of the many cutbacks and steep drops, but it is well worth the effort! All of our group loved it and would go back again in an instant. Being East coasters, that's probably not practical, but we had absolutely no complaints about the place.

We had the most beautiful relaxing weekend here. It is a gorgeous, warm and romantic house with incredible views. Also, everything was so clean and ready for us, along with a thoughtful note from the owners which was so kind. The bed is so comfortable, and we just read and played games all weekend! Total Privacy and total relaxation in a beautiful setting. We can't wait to book our next weekend.

About the owner: Hello, my name is Kristine and I am holding one of my two daughters in this photo. We live in Manhattan Beach and own two rental properties, a condo in Aspen and Dragonfly Ranch on the Central coast. I love it when guests arrive at the ranch and they call me, sounding mesmerized and almost speechless. It makes me feel good to be able to share such an amazing place.
Why the Owner Chose Atascadero:
We bought this rental property because some day we would like to live there full time. It is our dream property and I think it will be yours too.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The relaxing quality that the ranch has is unlike any other place. It is the perfect Central Coast getaway, a meal for your soul. One can't help but feel the strength of the land when they are there and everyday problems seem to not seem so important. It is a private getaway that will take your mind off anything in "real life". The only problem is, you won't want to go back.
