Traveling south, a 30 minute scenic drive takes you to Lake Lure where there are several horse stables where half day and full day guided rides are available. In the summer and fall seasons you'll find family fun on Lake Lure with a swimming beach, new water park, scenic boat tours, twilight dinner cruises, paddle boat and pontoon boat rentals. Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2007

Bob and Jana Goodwin have a vacation home on Gateway Mountain as well as Majestic Falls, their rental house. Jana spends part of her time enjoying the wonderful North Carolina weather and seasons at Gateway. Bob is still a working architect and maintains his practice in Palatka FL but finds a bit of time to enjoy his mountain get away whenever he is able.

Why the Owner Chose Asheville

We completed the construction of our vacation home at Gateway in 2001 and built one cabin next door to our house, completed in 2004, rented it for 18 months and then sold it to a nice couple who are now our visiting neighbors. Bob enjoyed the design and building process so much that he bought another lot at Gateway and the construction of Majestic Falls began in April of 2006. It was conpleted and furnished by Jana and we began to rent the house in July of 2007, a few months after the CO was issued. Our first couple to rent the house were there on their honeymoon so we loved the thought of this first rental couple giving and receiving good luck of a "first" happy time at Majestic Falls.

    • What a beautiful home! The view from the living room is unbelievable. I enjoyed sitting in the living room with a great bottle of Biltmore wine and a good book. I wish we could have opened the windows at night to enjoy the gorgeous mountain air but there are no screens and the bugs trying to get in to the light would have been too much to open the back door. But other than that we absolutely loved your home! I could go on forever but I will just make a few points. The granite, the ornate lighting throughout, the tile, the huge jetted tub, the comfortable beds.....oh, we loved your home. It is so far up the mountain and so far away from any other houses; it was completely peaceful. We enjoyed the small trek to the waterfalls. We also captured some great photos as well as a mini-movie! Thank you for the use of your home and how easy it was to rent it. We have already highly recommended your home to friends! Thanks again, Sonja and Victor Cantu

    • serenity and a glimpse of God's amazing creation. that is what i was looking for in our vacation getaway and we found it in spades at this great home! our family of four enjoyed a few peaceful days in this wonderfully clean home with spectacular vista views. enjoying a morning cup of hot coffee in a cooler climate with such amazing views on the deck was just blissful. and we so enjoyed walking to the nearby waterfall and visiting the community lake. we got to take a trolley tour in asheville, which was a short distance. one morning, we also went white water rafting as a family. certainly something for everyone and the deer we saw at the house on the last night was icing on the cake for our daughters. so, thank you, jana, for providing exactly what we needed - a chance to slow down and enjoy the peace and quiet in your home. we were truly blessed...

    • We were so tired of our long, long winter in Indiana and needed a Spring get-away. The contemporary mountain home was the perfect place! The home is very nice . . everything we needed. It was a peaceful, serene location on the mountain. Jana has done a wonderful job with the interior design and provided all we needed for the four nights we were there. The master suite was delightful. We wished we had our family with us to enjoy the other bedrooms and the great walk-out lower level. We visited the Biltmore, Black Mountain, Hendersonville, and Asheville. Wonderful restaurants are available with in a short drive or top-of-the-line appliances if you want to eat in. Thanks, Jana, for a great vacation.

    • For anyone looking to relax and enjoy natural surroundings, then look no more. My family and I stayed at this gorgeous mountain retreat during Christmas. The views from anywhere in the house are spectacular. What an awesome deign for a mountain home. We enjoyed the Biltmore Estate and lovely Asheville. We made outings to even Gatlinburg, TN which was easily accesible through I-40. The house is very well equipped with all of the amenities you would find at home. The open floor plan and downstairs basement gave everyone different areas of the house to enjoy. The peace and tranquility of this home's location makes you want to stay here year round and to top it off, the owners are delighful people! We will defintely go back to enjoy this home in the trees.

    • We spent New Year's Eve at Majestic Falls and fell in love with this home and it's spectacular views! The bedrooms are newly furnished with lots of charm and decorum. We especially enjoyed the upper deck over looking Lake Lure in the distance with the sunset over the mountain range. A bottle of wine, which the owners can provide you at a reasonable rate, yummy appetizers on the deck at sunset is pure Heaven! I loved it so much that I will be returning in the Spring! I would highly recommend Majestic Falls to anyone.

    • My family had a wonderful Thanksgiving vacation at this mountain vacation home. The home was beautifully decorated and the views were breathtaking. The kitchen was well stocked. Waking each morning was such a pleasant experience to be surrounded by such beauty with all the colorful trees and the mountains in view from any location in the house. The waterfall was a short walk from the home and worth the visit. We spent one day in Asheville and the Biltmore which was about 30 minutes from Old Fort. Another day, we went to Black Mountain, a quaint little town, about 15 minutes from the house. Both trips worth the visit. I would highly recommend a stay. We hope to have an opportunity to visit again in the spring or summer.

    • I took a friend to Majestic Falls to celebrate her 55th birthday. The home was absolutely beautiful and nicely decorated. The view of layered mountains and Lake Lure in the distance were wonderful. We were delightfully surprised by the daily visit of hummingbirds even there was no feeder around. We went into Asheville and Black Mountain for meals and shopping and felt somewhat guilty for not taking advantage of such a well stocked kitchen. I've never had the pleasure of meeting Jana, but through corresponding with her I feel as though she is a good friend who wanted to make sure our stay was special (and it was).

    • We had a great three-night stay in July. The house is beautifully designed and decorated, completely private, and totally upscale. It's in a security-gated rustic development not too far off I-40, pretty much at the first range of mountains (from the map, you might think it's on flat ground, but it's nicely up in the hills going west on I-40.) We liked the king-sized bed, the whirlpool tub, the upscale and well-equipped kitchen, the lodge-like living room, and the several decks (two private ones off the master bedroom alone.) You can see Lake Lure off in the distance from the deck. Jana is a wonderful host and included some nice surprises that I won't spoil for someone else by listing, but suffice it to say we felt like we were staying in a B&B instead of a rental property. We enjoyed driving around the area, particularly Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. Asheville wasn't far and Black Mountain was fairly close for larger grocery stores and restaurants. It was a great experience.
