Our large Architect designed mountain home Majestic Falls is the perfect place to spend a weekend, a week or a month in the peace of the mountains... Spring and Summer are great times for visiting the mountains. The weather is mild with cool mornings, warm afternoons and cool evenings. The trees are full leaved again and Lake Lure as well as near and far mountains can be seen in the distance from almost every room in the house. Our house is great for family vacations. The three bedroom, all on the main floor configuration, with downstairs family room with the third bath makes for a perfect separation for adults and children if desired.
Enjoy all four decks if the weather is mild and the rising or setting sun gives one much visual pleasure. Enjoy your morning coffee outside and on sunny afternoons you will also enjoy sitting on the deck sipping wine and listenening to the quiet and watching nature in its perfect form. From the all locations inside and outside of the house you see views of Lake Lure and near and far mountains.
This beautiful split-level home is located in 'Gateway Mountain', a 2900 acre nature preserve and gated mountain residential community. Gateway Mountain is on a part of the Hickory Nut mountain range. The house was custom designed for this property site by a registered architect (NC and FL), who is also the Owner.
Majestic Falls is nestled among and surrounded by a hardwood forest and the views are southerly of near and far mountains and of Lake Lure. Quiet surroundings allow guests to experience the pristine woods and natural setting with deer, rabbits, wild turkeys, and even a bobcat has been spotted on occassion. A beautiful water-fall gurgles near the house site and is a steep climb below the house for the avid hikers. Less than a half mile's walking distance is a covered picnic area highlighted by another beautiful waterfall. This waterfall is easily accessible leading to a delightful pool to dip one's toes in summertime or on warmer fall days. In winter it is also beautiful if there has been snow.
The house features a king size bed in the master bedroom suite and two private decks adjacent to the master suite. Two other bedrooms with queen and double beds share a seperate full bathroom and the large family room on the lower level has its own deck and also a third bathroom with shower.
Special features include a slate entry hall, wood flooring, featured skylight and wood ceilings, windows everywhere, marble tiled bathrooms, granite countertops and custom kitchen cabinets. All appliances are Kitchen-Aid. The house is well appointed, completely furnished and equipped and includes a washer and a dryer. There are many unique paintings and artwork on the walls and watercolors painted by the owner himself who has been painting for several years.
Conveniently located near Asheville and Black Mountain, in Old Fort, NC. Gateway Mountain is an easy drive just 7 miles off Interstate 40, which situates you midway between the large city of Asheville with the famous Biltmore House and Mast General Store, 25 miles away; and, 15 miles from the resort town of Black Mountain with its quaint antique and gift shops and small eateries. Traveling south, a 30 minute scenic drive takes you to Lake Lure where there are several horse stables where half day and full day guided rides are available. In the summer and fall seasons you'll find family fun on Lake Lure with a swimming beach, new water park, scenic boat tours, twilight dinner cruises, paddle boat and pontoon boat rentals. A 45 minute drive to the historic downtown of Hendersonville and nearby Flat Rock Playhouse; also near Chimney Rock Park, Mount Pisgah, and Mount Mitchell State Parks. On the Gateway Mountain property, visit the mentioned waterfall and picnic area, two lakes and stocked fishpond and hiking trails.
Majestic Falls provides a serene environment for a quiet getaway from the cacophony of city-life, and all the mentioned sites and activities within a short driving distance. Relax and enjoy your holiday 'away from it all' but near enough to access many fun activities as well. Truly the best of both worlds.
The house is for sale and if you are interested, I offer a discounted nightly rate for serious buyers to get an experience of the house. A great way to have a vacation home in the mountains ready to walk into and enjoy or for use as investment/ vacation home combined. It is offered unfurnished if desired or furnished for investment rental purposes. Majestic Falls has a good rental history and our VRBO commets express enjoyment from our many guests. Please ask me if you want more information about price and the real estate agent.

This home was the perfect place to share a visit with our daughter who lives in Asheville. It was very comfortable and was furnished with everything we would need. There was great hiking--right out the door. On the day that it rained, we curled up with books in front of the windows and enjoyed the magnificent view from inside! Thanks for sharing your home with us.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much Denise. We love having families and also friend groups to visit our Majestic Falls house. We agree that its a perfect place for enjoying each other's company and nature as well... and adventure trips to see the sights near-by.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The house is beautiful with great views!! You have thought of everything in the house to have a great time. Including Dvd's games, cards, etc. There are so many things to do in the area. We were sorry we didn't have enough time to do all we wanted to. We look forward to coming back another time.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Highly recommend arriving before dark on your first day. Road leading up to house is windy and very difficult to travel in the dark. The house was very beautiful and the view was spectacular! We enjoyed our short stay and hope to make it back soon!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We had a wonderful week staying in this beautiful house. It is a very private setting. The only time we saw or heard anyone was when we went for a hike (nice trails and waterfalls steps away from the house). I worried that the house may not be suited well for our 2 year old daughter. But, it worked out great. The decks are wonderful. We had breakfast and dinner outside most days. I hope we can come back again some time.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Fantastic Contemporary Cabin!
Fantastic Contemporary Cabin!

Our family throughly enjoyed our time in Majestic Falls. The cabin is well equipped in the kitchen and bathrooms. The eclectic decor is homey and comfortable. Jana was wonderful to work with and answered questions that we had while we stayed there (i.e. where is this? how does this work?). The cabin was clean and the hummingbird feeder was full (and we enjoyed the birds everyday!). The community itself had some nice features like a waterfall within walking distance and a lake towards the top of the mountain community. Besides Asheville, there were other fabulous places to visit nearby.... Chimney Rock, Black Mountain, Montreat, Lake Lure and Old Fort to name a few. To be noted, we had absolutely no cell or data service with AT&T until we went down the mountain and into town. My MIL had service at the cabin with Verizon. If you are visiting in the winter, I would not want to be driving a car in the snow to the cabin..... but you can say about any mountain community! I would definitely recommend Majestic Falls to friends who are looking to visit the area and who want to get away from it all (including your cell phone!). Thanks to Jana and Bob for offering such a nice place for a reasonable price! P.S. I loved the touch of the Biltmore wine available in the wine rack... with no mark up!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Not only a awesome view of the mountains but a beautiful home. We felt right at home as soon as we arrived. We spent our time relaxing and enjoying our surroundings. Even though the house was in the mountains, we were not to far from whatever we needed. We would love to come back again. Thanks for opening your home to us. It was a blessing to us.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

This is a beautiful home in a beautiful area - we loved every minute we were there - the only thing missing was screens for the windows so that you could breathe in that wonderful mountain air - hope to be back soon!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Sorry about the screens. If you'd have called me I would have told you were they were located. In winter we take them off the windows so that the full view is not hindered by the screens. They are in the toolroom adjacent to the downstairs family room..... glad you enjoyed your week!

We had a very nice fall weekend. The house is very comfortable and well equipped. The views are excellent, with lots of fall color. We toured the local sights during the day to come "home" and relax in the evenings. With the heat off (by choice) we used the wood stove to remove the morning chill and create a cozy breakfast atmosphere. I personally slept with a window open to listen to the fall breezes in the trees. This was a girls weekend, and each of us talked of returning with the family as a whole to enjoy this home and the surroundings together. Five star accommodations!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: Bob and Jana Goodwin have a vacation home on Gateway Mountain as well as Majestic Falls, their rental house. Jana spends part of her time enjoying the wonderful North Carolina weather and seasons at Gateway. Bob is still a working architect and maintains his practice in Palatka FL but finds a bit of time to enjoy his mountain get away whenever he is able. We have two dogs and are pet friendly people even though we respect guests who may have allergies so Majestic Falls doesn't welcome pets sorry to say.
Why the Owner Chose Asheville:
We completed the construction of our Gateway mountain home in 2001 and built one cabin next door to our house, completed in 2004, rented it for 18 months and then sold it to a nice couple who are now our visiting neighbors. Bob enjoyed the design and building process so much that he bought another lot at Gateway and the construction of Majestic Falls began in April of 2006. The construction was completed in May 2007 and furnished by Jana and we began to rent the house in July of 2007, a few months after the CO was issued. Our first couple to rent the house were on their honeymoon so we loved the thought of these first guests giving and receiving good luck of a 'first' happy time at Majestic Falls.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
You will enjoy sitting outside on one of 4 decks and reading, enjoy watching nature and hummingbirds in summertime. Wake up to see the moutains out of your bedroom windows and you may even see deer grazing nearby.
