Kiahuna Plantation condo description
Unit 25 has certain attributes that make it especially desirable. It has recently been remodeled in such a way as to open up the unit to the white water views while keeping the unique Kiahuna style redwood trim throughout. It is on the second floor which not only affords a expansive lawn/ocean views but provides privacy, as well. It is an end unit with louvered windows allowing natural ventilation from the trade winds. An ancient rainbow tree shades the front deck which provides comfortable use throughout the day and keeps the unit cool. And we are one of the only units with a 'guest closet' which contains new bicycles, snorkeling equipment, boce ball and other entertainments for our guests.
The charm of Kiahuna Plantation is reminiscent of 'Old Hawaii' with beautiful grounds that are full of trees, flowers, an orchid 'farm' and green grass with pathways for strolling to the beach or around the property.
The recently upgraded kitchen and dining room/living room are lovely for meals, but nearby restaurants available for those who wish to eat out. Across the street from the Kiahuna is 'Keoki's Paradise'...good fish and meats and 'Roy's' fantastic cuisine. There are many more restaurants within a 10 minute drive that will satisfy all palates. For the ultimate in convenience 'The Plantation' restaurant is within walking distance of the condo and serves great food.
The water is aqua, warm and has (usually) gentle surf. There are surfing classes held for those who want to give it a try. Other activities include nearby scuba rentals, horseback riding, kayaking on two gorgeous rivers, and Zodiac rides to the normally inaccessible North Coast.
For those who have not visited Kauai, it's the ideal place for a week in Hawaii without the congestion and hustle of some of the other islands. The pace is slower, the beauty is unsurpassed, and there is always something to do within a short walk or drive of Kiahuna Plantation. Our family has owned this unit for over 30 years, and we look forward to visiting it and the island every year.
Bring your walking shoes (or at least your Tevas with a rugged sole) so you can hike around the 4,000' summit, or along the incomparable Na Pali Coast. If it looks familiar, it's because movies as famous as South Pacific and as new as Jurassic Park have been filmed along this gorgeous coastline.
Barking Sands Beach (far eastern side of the island)
Kokee State Park (above Waimea Canyon)
Kipu Falls (N of Lihue)
Zodiac Trip on Na Pali Coast (departs from Pt. Allen)
Helicopter ride around island (bargain for best price)
Farmer's Market in Koloa Town (Mondays?)
Cafe Coco (Kapaa Town, very cute)
The Queen's Baths (Princeville; ask where to park)
National Tropical Botanical Gardens (near Ha'ena)
The unit directly downstairs, #24 is also available for direct rental for clients who need more space for friends or family. Please see VBRO listing number 170571.

Thanks so much for sharing your condo with us. We had a great time at Kiahuna and relaxing on Poipu Beach. Your property is clean and well-maintained. We enjoyed cooking meals, relaxing on the lanai and easy (so easy!) access to the beach. The lanai is perfect for relaxing (if only there were two lounge chairs so we wouldn't have to arm wrestle for the one!). Our family enjoys walking everywhere and Kiahuna is the perfect location for a family vacation to Kauai - we can walk across the street to the little mall for breakfast or Starbucks or groceries, walk 15 min to Ku'kukuila outdoor mall, walk to the Sheraton or Marriott for cocktails etc. We even rented a cabana at the Sheraton Pool for the day for a reasonable price :) The umbrella in the equipment closet came in very handy, and our 1.5 year old enjoyed the "beach toy borrowing bucket" over by the towel shack. We'd recommend a date night at Merriman's or Casa di Amici. We did make a supply run to Costco for a number of kitchen staples - so the next few visitors will hopefully enjoy the spices, saran wrap, Ziploc bags, olive oil and coffee grinder :) It's a small price to pay for the benefit of getting to cook your own meals in the privacy of your own condo - with a gorgeous view of the ocean outside your window. Tips for families with small children: - All windows and interior doors are louvered with screens. This provides great breezes and ventilation throughout the unit, however it means that sound can carry long distances. We didn't have any major issues with outside sound, but found it tricky at night to not disturb our neighbors when our child was crying/fussy and wouldn't sleep. - There is one bedroom with a king bed and a hide-a-bed in the living room. We rented a crib through Ready Rentals and it was really easy - they delivered the crib to our unit and picked it up the day we left. We were able to barely fit it next to the bed by the wall - a tight fit, but it worked fine. If you have a pack-n-play, there is a perfect spot for one next to the bed by the dresser. - Highly recommend Patricia with Babysitters of Kauai and were lucky to find Mary who was amazing with our son. - Staff at Castle Resorts front desk told us the pool will be re-opening in the next few months. It was closed during our stay, but great news for families with kids! - The bathroom is a shower/toilet combo, no tub. Not an issue, just FYI. Thank you!

You are paying for the view!!!
You are paying for the view!!!
I made our reservations over a year in advance. I was so looking forward to our special stay here…. Pros: - Beautiful view. - Separate stairway to condo. - Well stocked activities closet (chairs, boogie boards, umbrellas, bike, etc. - if not covered in sand). Cons: - Voices are amplified in this area. Normal conversations outside sounded like they were right in front of us. The people downstairs had a little boy named, Wyatt, who would wake up early, cry and run outside the condo. His father would call for him. At one point the condo across the way politely yelled, “Can you keep it down, we are on vacation.” - The cleaning crew’s rally area is right outside the condo in the parking lot. They start gathering around 7:30 am and their voices carry. Even during the day, it is very difficult to take a nap with their talking and their carts beeping. - Castle Resort runs this unit. The front desk is unfriendly and at one time extremely rude. The front desk tells you when the midweek cleaning will take place, but don’t count on it happening when they say. We have stayed in other condo units run by Outrigger with no problems. - Snorkeling equipment was covered with sand. - Kitchen not stocked with condiments or supplies. There was only salt, pepper and salt free Tony Chachere’s seasoning. No other condiments or supplies (aluminum foil, saran wrap, baggies, etc.). - Parking can be a problem. - Lanai furniture and cushions were a tad moldy. You are paying for the convenience of walking distance to the beach and the nice lawn area. Would I recommend this condo unit to a friend? No, I would not recommend any condo unit run by Castle.

Manager response: Reply We are very sorry for problems that you experienced at our home at Kiahuna. We work hard to ensure that our place meets every guest's expectations. Therefore, although this is the first review we have received that was not five star, we are taking your comments seriously. We have contacted, Castle Resorts, the management company at Kiahuna, regarding your comments and will work with them to improve the issues that you raised. We also expect Castle to get back in touch with you directly. It is unfortunate the skin diving equipment was sandy. We are the only unit at Kiahuna that has a closet with bicycles, skin diving equipment, beach umbrellas, golf clubs, tennis rackets, etc. that are available to our guests; but we cannot control how other guests leave the equipment. We appreciate your input and will continue to try to provide the best vacation experience possible to future guests.
Amazing Unit and Location!
Amazing Unit and Location!
My wife and I stayed here for 6 days in mid-september and had an amazing time. The unit itself was nicely decorated and well laid out. It also contained every amenity we could ever ask for, including bikes, boogie boards, beach mats and just about anything else you could ever think to use at or near the beach! The ocean was visible from the balcony, making for a beautiful view all day long. There was always a nice breeze that flowed throughout the condo, due to the many windows, shutters and fans. The bed was also extremely comfortable; we slept like babies each night. Another great feature, due to the location of the unit and the Kiahuna plantation, was that we could walk to the nearby Sheraton hotel or Poipu Village and have access to about 10 different restaurants and bars, while always having a secluded and peaceful oasis to go back to. It was a beautiful, relaxing and comfortable Kauai vacation and we plan on coming back in the future!

Kauai condo with excellent location
Kauai condo with excellent location
We've stayed at this unit two years in a row, for three main reasons: 1) it is ideally located on one of Kauai's best beaches; 2) it is on the second floor, which affords a degree of privacy (the unit has its own private staircase); and 3) it has a wonderful view of the waves crashing on the reef. This unit is ideal for couples and families, with an ample bedroom plus a fold-out bed in the main room. We like the fact that it's not right on the beach, but back a bit from the water, so it's quieter. The water is in view, and only a very short walk to the beach (perhaps a little over 100 yards). It's also convenient to parking, which is important when you're carrying in groceries. We both would be very happy to recommend this condominium to our friends and family. It's ideal.

Heaven on Earth
Heaven on Earth
Some of the happiest moments of my life happened here: breakfast on the lanai, reading/snoozing on the beach, swimming for hours in the perfect water, mai tais at sunset, meeting fellow guests around the communal grill, and lying under the palm trees at the end of the day. #25 might just be the best-situated unit of the whole place: the only thing between you and the beach is a rolling lawn and the palm trees. Inside, a system of fans and slatted windows ensures that the whole place is always cool, without the artificial chill of air conditioning. We cooked in the roomy kitchen most nights (it was recently renovated, a wall removed to allow an unobstructed view) and availed ourselves of the well-stocked visitors' closet for bikes, boogie boards, beach accoutrements, etc. We easily could've spent our entire honeymoon at the Plantation, but we managed to have some adventures, too. Highly recommend hiking the Pihea trail Waimea Canyon State Park — fairly easy hike, mind-blowing views. Follow that up with a zodiac tour of the Na Pali coast and you'll get to see Pihea Peak again, from sea level. (You'll also see dolphins, sea turtles, monk seals, and the cove where the climax of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was shot.) The world's best tacos can be found at Island Tacos in Waimea. Closer to home, there's the Beach House for a fancy night out, and the bespoke sushi place in the Kukui'ula mall (the Dolphin, I think). Finally, if you value coffee as much as I do, you'll appreciate the individually brewed cups at Lappert's. I hear they sell ice cream, too. One more thing: farmer's markets make all the difference. Look up "sunshine farmer's markets," and make sure to hit the one in Lihue on Fridays. You will feel like Adam and Eve eating this produce, and it's ridiculously cheap.

Well, for those of you who have stayed at Kiahuna before, this is a recently updated unit in a great location. Being an upper unit, you have a bit of privacy on the lanai and a wonderful view of the big lawn stretching to the swaying palms and the beach. We have always been grateful that there has never been a pool placed oceanfront. The large lawn is host to quiet mornings and impromptu games of bocce ball or frisbee. It is a quieter unit, tucked near the Castle Resort office. Kudos to the great remodel of this unit, retaining the island spirit but in an updated manner. One advantage of the upper units are the taller ceilings. Being on the end, this unit also has the breezes through the end windows. Great activity closet-thank you! We would rent this unit again.

Golden Anniversay Couple!
Golden Anniversay Couple!
We always enjoy the Kiahuna Plantation and this was where we always planned to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. This was our third time to stay there over the last twenty-five years and Unit 25 was the best unit in which we have stayed. This was the first time that we scheduled our stay directly with the unit owner and it was a great experience. It was nice to know right from the start exactly which unit we would be occupying. The unit is a superior unit and the owner was very accessible and provided a lot of information about eating places, special hikes and bicycle rides and other activities. We have stayed in several condos over the years and this was the first unit that the owner provided access to an activity closet that contained many useful beach items that we have had to purchase in the past, plus two bicycles! The Castle Management people were also very helpful, but one does not get the personal attention and the direct contact that the owner of Unit 25 provided. It was great having both a great owner and a great property management company. The location is also excellent. First of all we enjoyed the second floor, as we felt that we had more privacy; plus an excellent view. We concluded that this unit was actually better than an ocean front for us, as we observed that the units that are classified as ocean front did not appear to have as much privacy since the people at the beach and on the lawn naturally are closer to those units. We simply cannot say enough good things about the comfort, the way the unit is furnished and most of all the personal attention and concern we received from the owner of Unit 25.

This Place was a wonderful slice of paradise. I loved the sunrises and sun sets from the balcony. The location was just what we wanted. We could walk to the beach, restaurant, and easily access other point of interest. The amenities were great. The place felt spacious and just the place I want to lounge around. I would rent this place again and again.

Hard to beat!
Hard to beat!
Had a wonderful stay once again at this wonderful condo. Cannot beat that location on Kiahuna plantation! Loved the shade tree which allowed me to sit outside during all hours and take in the wonderful view without getting too hot or sunburned. Enjoyed riding the bicycles. A real plus for us. Will definitely try to get over there again.

About: Our family has been at Kiahuna longer than just about anyone else. My dad was the President of the Board of Directors of Phase I, Kiahuna back in the 80's and I have been on the board for three years. We consider the unit as a second home and try to afford our guests with the opportunities to do some of the things we like best like bike riding and snorkeling (new bikes and snorkel equipment available to guests at no extra charge), bocce ball on the lawn, Frisbee, etc. You will also find a French Easel in the closet upon which I have painted most of the paintings in the unit. My wife, Marijke and I, live on a small vineyard/winery on the Carmel River in Carmel Valley, California.
Why Kiahuna Plantation:
Our family has been visiting Hawaii since the 1960s. My parents looked for a place that reminded them of 'old Hawaii'; a place that was lush, slow-paced, and which offered instant access to the warm tropical waters. Kiahuna Plantation is that place. Low density, low buildings with traditional styling. It's decidedly un-touristy, while being being very convenient for tourists and owners. Our particular unit has a virtually uninterrupted view of the lawn and ocean and palm trees. We like the privacy of the second floor, and we enjoy the natural ventilation that occurs due to our 'end unit' location. One thing that we love about Kiahuna is that the property is immaculately maintained. The grass is groomed, the plants appear to be from a botanical garden, and yet it's low-key.
