CARPINTERIA...maybe it's not really the land that time forgot, but it doesn't take much time here to feel like you've eased back into a vacation from your childhood. Days at the beach are long and lazy, and balmy nights are livened up by walks up and down the main drag, stopping for ice cream, to window shop, or to just watch others stroll by. There's a wide variety of local restaurants, but not a major chain in sight (other than fast food, of course), and if you feel like staying out late, there's usually live music playing nearby somewhere.
We have a comfortable, well stocked house with cute beachy decor. It is the perfect place for a great relaxing vacation. New- this year --- a flat screen TV! We hope you enjoy the outdoors but if your favorite sporting event or something else is on-- the viewing is much improved. Dorrance Depot R&R has the flavor of the past with the accommodations that you want for your family today. Located within two blocks of just about everything, it's a short walk to the beach and wildlife sanctuary in one direction, and Linden Avenue's shops and restaurants in the other. Although it's rumored to have been the old railroad station, today's Dorrance Depot R&R is all about Rest and Relaxation. Unit A, a spacious single story beach cottage, has three bedrooms and two full baths, with a large and open living, dining, and kitchen area. The front porch and small grassy yard, enclosed by a picket fence, connect the inside to the outside, and add to the entertainment possibilities. There's plenty of secure storage space for your portable vacation gear (chairs, bikes, boogie boards, etc.), and the house is fully equipped with kitchen, bath, and linen supplies.
Be our guest!...You'll be counting down the days until you can come back again.

Gorgeous House Walk to the Beach
Year Purchased: 2005
Why the Owner Chose Carpinteria
The sleepy nature of Carpinteria is due in large part to the fact that it was originally established as an agricultural outpost, not a resort. The current makeup of the town features numerous beautiful flower farms strung along the base of the eastern foothills, a state beach and campground on the southern end of town, and a large wildlife preserve to the north. These elements have acted as a natural barrier to development, leaving Carpinteria as one of the most unchanged and pristine beach communities on the Southern California coast.
The Unique Benefits at this House
In Carpinteria, the automobile is a non-essential item, and if your pedometer isn't logging more miles than your odometer, you need to rethink how you're spending your vacation time. Our house is located in a unique three block square that is an equally short walk to the beach, the wildlife preserve, the state park, and all restaurants, shops, and amenities. Don't feel like walking anywhere? That's OK, porch-sitting is a well respected and frequently practiced activity.
On the other hand, if you just need to get up and go, Santa Barbara is a short 10 mile drive straight up the coast, either using highway 101, or wandering along scenic back roads. Ventura is 15 miles south, and can also be reached either by the express highway 101, or taking the roundabout way along the coast, or through Ojai.
Owner's Map of Carpinteria
Kathy and I first started coming to Carpinteria in the early '90s, visiting the state campground during the summer months with our friends and a slew of our kids. Even then, we were struck by the seamless and immediate transition into vacation mode that this timeless place inspired. A few years after that, we bought a smaller place near the beach that would allow us to take advantage of the coastal environment on a year-round basis. At the same time, our friends Pat and Terri Collins were making Carpinteria a regular vacation spot with their large group from Bakersfield. We bought our current property in partnership with Pat and Terri, and have now earned our stripes as "part-time locals", counting many first-name relationships with local business and restauarnt owners as a badge of beach honor!

What a great house, with everything you will need to feel at home. They always say location, location, location and two short blocks to the water, or two short blocks to downtown. Had a great week with my family. Rate this property! Would recommend to a friend.

We had a GREAT time here with our two adult children and significant others! Location was super for heading to the beach, to Linden Street for coffee or treats, and to Santa Barbara for shopping or nightlife. Very comfy accommodations and the owner, Kathy, was super to deal with. This was our second time staying here and we will definitely stay again!

Dear Kathy; Your apartment was excellent, very well decorated, clean and cozy. My 2 daughters, husband and I had a great time. We enjoyed beautiful walks on the lovely beach and the many restaurants and shops 2 blocks down the street. The closeness to SB was also very good allowing us to partake in our son's graduation and still be away from the commotion. You were always available on the phone with great suggestions and tips. I highly reccomend this apartment to anyone wishing for a beautiful and restoring vacation.

We rented Unit A for a week in late May. The location was perfect - a short walk to the beach to downtown for shopping / dining with a variety to choose from in such a quaint beach town. We enjoyed the barbecue and full kitchen for several meals at home. The house was spacious, relaxing and clean for an older home. The bedrooms were very private with the splt wing floor plan. The indoor washer / dryer was convenient with kids and not having to take dirty clothes home. We will be back and have recommended the properties to our family and friends!

This is a comfortable and well kept beach cottage. We spent a lovely Christmas week with our family of adult children and 1 baby granddaughter. Carpinteria is charming and we loved having sunshine and 60+ degree weather in December. The beach is beautiful and just a short walk from the home. The owners were great to work with. We loved our week of "home" here and look forward to returning!

This cottage is lovely, reasonable, and so close to the beach and downtown. It's very comfortable and the owners were a pleasure to deal with! We had several adults and kids and it accommodated everyone--a great place to stay with friends for a quiet weekend away.

Carpinteria is lovely, and the cottage just right for our needs (3 sisters and our Mom). We were surprised by 108 degree heat in Solvang this week---should have stayed here that day. Sunsets at the beach were gorgeous, the locals very friendly and helpful, and we had great meals out (Zookers, Oaxaca) and in. Santa Barbara was fun, too. We appreciated the stocked kitchen.

I highly recommend this beach cottage. We stayed in Unit A with 3 BR and 2 BA. It was perfect for our group of 3 sisters and our mom (plus one husband and child for one night) - spacious, well-stocked, clean. It's a short walk to the beach where we enjoyed lovely sunsets. The people in Carpinteria were all friendly and helpful. It's a short walk to shops, ice cream, good restaurants, and a short drive to Santa Barbara, one hour to Danish village Solvang. We enjoyed the duck boat in Santa Barbara (land and harbor tour) and lovely shopping area with .25 trolley rides. We were there the first weekend in October for the Avocado Festival - yum and lots of good free music. Would go back in a heartbeat.

We are sending our oldest daughter to college in the fall, and needed some quality family time. This town is so quaint and this house was the perfect relaxing getaway for us. We will remember this trip fondly. Loved your home!
