Our family stayed here for 6 nights and cannot be happier with our decision. It's a little bit of a drive from Honolulu airport (aprox 40 min) but SOOOO worth it. It's like you're in an entirely different world all in it's own. We arrived on a late flight and when we entered the home, they had the pack-n-play already set up for us and ready to go for our little one to head to bed. The view is AMAZING!!! If I hadn't been with people that wanted to experience the whole island, I don't think I would have left the back porch. Everything you need is right in the immediate area. Gas station is 3 blocks away, a fantastic place to eat (Papa Ole's) and a Grocery store within walking Distance. I don't have a single complaint - Except that I had to leave. Thank you Darcelle & Mike!

We stayed for 2 weeks (Feb15-Feb 29). We would stay here again--for sure. The house is right on the water. So cool. It has two FULL bathrooms and two bedrooms and a very nice living/kitchen area. Great water pressure for the showers! We noticed right away how clean the place was. I mean spotless. The house is at the tip of the road which makes a loop from the Kam Hwy (83). It's a local neighborhood but nothing like suburbia--each house is unique and the people were friendly. When you walk into the house though, any feeling of neighborhood disappears and there is a feeling of privacy and it's very comfortable and you have OCEAN. We only used the AC when we slept and did not need any AC at all during the day/evening. Coffee every morning, fresh fruit and eggs for breakfast, cooked most of our meals (fresh fruit stands everywhere). The washer and drier were new and worked great. Body boards and snorkeling gear to use and a new charcoal grill. The place had everything we needed. When you stay at a hotel, you have to leave your room for any activities or to feel like you are getting out--We noticed what a big difference it is to be staying in this house and feeling like we didn't need to leave--we were ON the ocean on the deck with our cocktails or coffee. The very north tip of the island is about a 12-15 minute drive. TIP: When looking for a place in VRBO we looked hard for a place near Waimea Bay and Sunset Beach. We did spend a lot of time at/near these places but we are SO happy we were in Hauula--not far from the north shore action but not IN it. Waikiki is 45 minutes to a little over an hour depending on traffic. The driving is interesting and pretty. We hiked Hauulla Loop Trail, Diamond Head, Manoa Falls. All very different. Manoa was a favorite-roots, rocks, rainforest, waterfall, rainbows in the rainforest. Best "hike of all" take Kam Hwy (83) all the way to where the road ends. 6 mile flat walk/hike along the shore on a remote point of oahu. Ask Darcelle. Seals, Albatross birds (sanctuary), whale tails, cliff to jump off into the ocean-very fun, very few people out there. The neighboring town of Laie has a beach we loved! (Hukilau Beach) If you walk to the point you see an island and you can actually walk to the island in 3 feet of water with waves coming from all angles. There is a quiet white beach on one side of the tiny island and huge waves (in the winter) on the opposite side. All this so close to the house. Thank you Darcelle. You were great

Splash is right. The property description is misleading. It's not oceanfront, it's IN the ocean - and I mean that as the biggest compliment possible. I could not have asked for a better place to stay. Relaxing and oceanfront is what I was looking for and this very much exceeded my expectations. When I booked the house I figured I would get out and do more exploring, but once I stepped foot onto the rear deck, I did not want to move. There was no need to. The mountains to the right were gorgeous and constantly changing in appearance thanks to the angle of the sun and clouds. I took new pictures of them several times a day and no picture turned out the same. Amazing. As for proximity to everything, you can walk to a very well stocked grocery store in two minutes. There are also two restaurants in that complex and a dominos. All of my meals but two were cooked in the well equipped kitchen with great ingredients from Tamura's. Across the street is another little market and korean bbq place. Driving up and down the main road brings you by many outdoor markets and shrimp trucks. And about a three minute walk up the beach brings you to the most picturesque piece of sandy beach I've ever come across. Trees line the edge of the sand and it's a wonderful place to enjoy shade from the sun. Hospitality here is also unrivaled. I was to arrive quite late my first night and asked Darcelle if there was a place to buy a bottle of wine on the way home from the airport. Since everything was going to be closed she asked what I wanted and had a great bottle waiting for me, just beside two glasses and a wine tool. She was amazing throughout the visit checking to see if I ever needed anything. She even brought over food she had cooked one night (and it was delicious). I did take a twirl all around the island and the whole island is beautiful, but if you want to relax, regain perspective, and clear your mind, you won't want to leave her patio. I say thanks to Darcelle for such a well equipped house and the best view in Oahu. I will definitely be back next year.

Thanks to Darcell for help making our stay much better. If you like privacy and quiet it would be hard to beat this place. One of our favorite things to do was watch the sea turtles from the back porch.Always an awesome sea breeze blowing to keep things cool. The only down side is that it is a bit of a drive to Honolulu/Waikik but Haleiwa isn't too far at all. For a peaceful quiet place to stay I highly recommend it. I also want to say Darcell is a wonderful person. She was so very helpful and nice it made our vacation so much better. Gary and Lisa
Owner response:Aloha Gary and Lisa.....thanks for staying with us. It was great to meet all of you. We are glad you enjoyed the turtles and the fresh trade winds blowing off the ocean. We look forward to seeing you again.

Thank-you Mike and Darcelle for sharing your beautiful bungalow with our family of five. We loved our stay! Everything we could need was there. Plenty of towels, beach towels and beach toys. It was so nice having the use of the washer and dryer. Having two bathrooms was very nice. The bungalow is very clean and comfortable. A good sleep each night. The trade winds kept us cool. We loved hearing the sound of the ocean. It was so nice sitting out on the lanai and soaking up the sun and relaxing! Just talking about it makes me wish we were there right now!! It was nice to be able to phone home ( free of charge) and let our families know that we arrived safely.Thank-you for providing that. The kindness that you show Darcelle, is truly appreciated. You made us feel very welcomed. Each of the kids, more than once, commented about how nice you are. Thank-you! It was nice knowing that you were only a couple of houses away. I would definitely stay here again! I will also recommend staying here. We really enjoyed eating at Papa Oles, it was delicious! Within walking distance. Also a grocery store. We enjoyed our visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center (close by), as well. Thanks again. Roy, Dawn, Danielle, Cody and Madison

My family of four stayed at the beach house for the second time, and it was great! Our boys could not wait to return to the "Hawaii house." The owner is very nice and accommodating with all your families needs. It is a great location for families because there are plenty of restaurants and a grocery store not far from the beach house. If sight seeing is what you are looking for, there are plenty of beautiful sights near the house, or a short drive away. We saw turtles on the shore! I will recommend this location to all my family and friends and I cannot wait to come again! I am hoping to make this a family tradition, memories that we can share for life with each other. Thank you, The Orchitt Family

We enjoyed two weeks at the two bedroom cottage with our son and his family in April. (4 adults and 1 baby) It was very quiet and relaxing and we had lots of privacy. We had plenty of room. We enjoyed the sound of the ocean and being able to see all the activity out on the water. We observed whales and turtles galore as well as a multitude of fishermen. It is a clean and tidy place with everything necessary for an easy stay. It is located in a non-touristy area and there is a grocery store and several restaurants within walking distance. The sandy beach just north of the house is, in our opinion, one of the best beaches on the island and within walking distance if you like to walk. It is doable to walk on the rocks to the sandy beach when the tide is out but can be slippery. However, we did it lots of time with no mishaps. If you are on the fence about this one, don't be, it is a lovely spot!
Owner response:Aloha Judy & Paul. Mahalo for staying at our peaceful bungalow. It was wonderful to meet you and your family. I hope it provided you the privacy and respite you were looking for. I look forward to seeing Paul's artwork of the ocean and Koolau vista. Mahalo for staying with us and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

What a great place to stay! Even though it was only a quick week, it was definitely worth it. The house was great, and the views spectacular, but most of all the hospitality and service were outstanding!! Thank you so much, Darcelle, for giving us all the suggestions on places to go and eat. Every experience was great. I just wish we would have had more time to relax and enjoy the house, and the views. Thanks again for your great hospitality. Mahalo, Randy

We stayed at this Beachfront secret for our Christmas Hawaiian Vacation, and it was quite the retreat. The house is cute and charming. Upon our arrival, we were immediately drawn to the backyard of the house where we were in awe of the view of the ocean that literally was steps away from us. We sat on the lawn chairs for about half an hour, soaking in the sun and enjoying the sounds of the crashing waves. We then realized we had yet to see the rest of the house! The 2 bedrooms are cozy and the 2 bathrooms are fully stacked with towels and needed toiletries. All you need is your toothbrush and toothpaste! The master bedrooms' lanai is right against the ocean. We sIept with our patio door open every night just to hear the waves. We already miss listening to the sounds of the waves at night! The living room has a queen sized futon and 2 twin sized futons. More than enough space if you plan on taking kids or if you have more people (we had 2 adults and 2 kids). The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. Pots, pans, dishes and silverware. Just supply the food! And what better way to wash the dishes but with a view of the ocean?! For activities, there are Boogie Boards and Beach mats that are available, so you don't have to purchase your own. Also, there is a storeroom with a washer and dryer so that you can do laundry as needed. All the luxuries of home were at our fingertips. Darcelle was VERY accommodating and welcoming. We felt right at home and like one of the locals (which I actually was mistaken for several times!) Any problems or questions we had, she was quick to answer or resolve. Definitely a 5 star rating! We will definitely be returning to Hawaii in the future, and look forward to staying with our newfound "cousin" and her awesome beachfront home.

We wanted a place away from Waikiki, and this was perfect. I picked this place because of the reviews and couldn't agree more. It's a short, beautiful drive from Honolulu and the north shore, with everything we needed close by. Mike and Darcelle were wonderful hosts and made us feel like old friends. The house is clean and airy and right on the water a short walk to the beach in either direction. We were able to make some food for ourselves, with tons of fresh fruit from roadside stands, and there are great local restaurants within walking distance or a short drive. My only regret is that we actually got on the plane and came home. I'm ruined for life and intend to come back early and often. Thank you Mike and Darcelle! I do hope we see you again soon. Much love, Lynn & Dave and Dave & Karen

My husband and I stayed in the bungalow for a little less than a week - it was just a lovely place to stay. It was quiet (except for the roaring ocean - how cool to have the ocean splashing right up to your door!), but on a main road and close to the North Shore and the very cool eastern shore towns. Darcelle is incredibly kind and welcoming! Thank you for creating such an inviting and calming environment!
Owner response:Aloha Hannah, It was wonderful to meet you. I hope your overall visit to our islands was enjoyable. I definitely agree with you...overall our place is very peaceful but the sounds of the ocean waves is constant. I am glad you enjoyed our little bungalow by the sea. Please come visit us again. WOW! To begin with Darcele, you are the best! You made Patrick and I feel so welcome. I felt like I have known you all my life. The boathouse was like a home away from home, and was perfect for us. It It was cozy, but not too small, spotless and comfortable. I loved that it was out and away from the Waikiki crowds. You made sure everything we might possibly need was right at our fingertips, including the snorkel gear, boogie boards, beach towels, and even beach shoes, (which came in very handy). I LOVED hearing the waves all night long, it was so relaxing. It was like the waves carried all of my worries out to sea....and that is where they stayed ;-) In the ocean, directly in front of boathouse, we saw turtles daily, one day we came home to see a reef shark about 10 feet in front of us! The Sunrises were breathtaking. We snorkeled at Sharks Cove several times, it was so amazing, we even bought the tee shirts lol! We explored the entire north shore, 4-wheeled, ate at one of the many roadside shrimp shacks, bought fruit from one of the many roadside fruit stands (yummy). Papa Oles right up the road has fantastic local food. The week went by so fast, I can't believe it. My body may be back in the desert, but my heart is still in Oahu. I hope I can come back soon. Mahalo Darcele, Tami p.s. If you are ever in AZ and need a place to stay, give me a call. My house comes with lots of extras too. A blaring TV, a crazy dog, and at times....a few grandchildren! p.s.s. If Mike ever wants any help painting, let me know. I would love to come and help out.
Owner response:Aloha Tami & Patrick, It was fantastic meeting you. I am thrilled your travel plans worked out to where you were able to enjoy our boathouse. I am glad you able to see all of the northshore and enjoy the local food and culture. We look forward to seeing you again. Darcelle

We loved our stay at the bungalow!! Unlike many rentals in Hawaii, this one is truly set apart. So close to the ocean, you could feel the salt spray come in the windows at times. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets and listening to the sounds of the ocean made for a perfect Hawaii vacation. It was just what we needed. From the very first phone call, Darcelle was warm and welcoming... So helpful and caring and so much Aloha spirit!! Thank You Darcelle!! The bungalow was a perfect way to jump start our honeymoon and the sunrises every morning were incredible! My parents, brother and my family of 5 had a great fun time. This quiet house was perfect for my brother and parent while the wife and three girls and I stayed out in the boat house. Enough room for all of us and a great central point for all the fun away from the busy life of the tourists. The ocean breaks right on the back yard wall and you get a great sprits. The Kokololio park just down the road was perfect for body boarding and beach playing for the kids. Huge park with BBQ and grass, trees and flowers. The owners were great to work with and very nice, helped with any questions and directions to the best places to go for site seeing. Thanks for the great stay and we will be back.

My family recently enjoyed a week at the Beachfront Bungalow. Darcelle was very warm and welcoming from the first interaction we had with her. She took care of all my families needs while we were there. My husband and two small children enjoyed the location because it was very family friendly. There are local stores and restaurants nearby to accommodate your family, and the beaches are beautiful and not very crowded. It was a great retreat from all of the busy tourists spots. I will recommend this bungalow to all my family and friends!

We had the pleasure of staying in the beach house from January 11 to the 18th, 2009. Darcelle & Mike make it feel like you have moved into your own wonderful escape. The four of us were only disappointed when we had to leave because the stay was too short. The place was clean, bright, and very comfortable. Going to sleep at night to the sound of the ocean was great. The morning coffee on the deck to watch the sunrise started each day perfectly. We even had a monk seal visit to rest for a day. Thanks Darcelle & Mike. We will try to return.

We stayed at the place from Dec 13 thru Dec 21st. We enjoyed every day of it. We especially liked the sunrise every morning. It started our day on the right track, Our family specially like the country feeling yet accessibility it had to all good places. We liked the sound of the waves and the freshness of the air there. It was great to have an owner who was very concerned about our comfort. It became even more noticiable after we moved to the new place in Waikiki where we stayed 3 nights. We missed our quite place in Haula. We had a great Vacation.

We stayed 3 nights here on our first trip to Hawaii. It is a nice clean, well maintained house with wonderful views and sounds of the ocean. Darcelle is very helpful and accomodating. This is an oceanFRONT property not beachfront. Keep that in mind. If you are looking for a place to "get away from it all" this is it. Local grocery store is small but adequate. Not many resturants. If you're wanting to shop stay downtown Honolulu. Beaches are very close so is Culture Center and Turtle Bay Resort but that's it. Great value for the $.

Aloha! We had a wonderful vacation on our 6 night stay at Darcelle and Mike's vacation home. It was just as expected! Perfect for our family gathering and away from the hustle bustle of Waikiki. We had everything we needed while staying there. The kitchen was so convenient, and the sound of the ocean and view was the best. We were able to get to all of our favorite North Shore locations within a short drive and made several trips to Waikiki also. The home slept our entire family comfortably and for those in our family that chose to stay at Turtle Bay Resort, well... they were jealous of our location! Oh by the way, look out off the patio to the ocean and you will see sea turtles swimming by! Thank you Darcelle and Mike! We hope to come back again soon. Regards, The Girvan Family

If you're reading this and still looking for a place to stay, you don't need to look any further. My family just returned from a two week stay in Paradise. We loved the Bungalow and its location. I truly miss the sound of the ocean and the cool night breezes. The property is central to the North Shore Beaches as well as an easy communte to Waikiki if you wish to venture out. We also enjoyed some of the local eating establishments. Make sure you try Papa Oles which is less than 1/2 mile from the Cottage. You won't be dissapointed. Darcelle and Mike were excellent hosts and very helpful. When one of our kids came Down with a mild ear infection, Darcelle was instrumental in helping us find a doctor close by. The property was clean and we particularly like that it had boogey boards, snorking equipment, and coolers. I would highly recommend this property and would stay again on any future visits to Oahu. Our first trip to Hawaii, what a magical land. This house was perfect! The breeze from the ocean cooled the house. The sound of the waves lulled us to sleep every night. The sea wall just outside the back door provides the perfect seat for watching the waves and the turtles. I sat there for hours! Our host, Darcelle, provided everything we needed. Right down to the welcoming bottle of pineapple wine. The local market just up the street had a wide selection of affordable groceries. We visited our favorite fruit stand every day. And bought corn at another stand. Everything was grown locally and was beyond delicious. The courtyard is gated for privacy. We were in our own private paradise at this house. It's roomy, clean and modern. Lots of natural light. I never even made it to Waikiki Beach. I didn't need to. I had my very own private beach. Rent this house so you, too can experience Darcelle's hospitality and the magic of North Shore. Ginny East Helena, Montana

If you’re looking for a place that’s away from busy traffic and tourism in downtown Waikiki and Honolulu, this is the place for you! We stayed in the 2 bedroom house from March 14th – 21st and it was amazing. We had everything we needed when we cooked, BBQ, picnic at the beach, basically just like home. Cooking at the beach house saved lots of $$$$ as well. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the sunrise, cute turtles play in the water right outside and so much more! This was truly a one of a kind trip to Oahu. Hands down I would stay here rather than a fancy hotel or resort. You won’t pay for expensive downtown parking. Did I mention you can walk right outside and go to the BEACH!!. This trip is all I’ve been talking about since I arrived back on the mainland :). This was my second trip to Oahu and my husband’s 5th or 6th time, this was the best ever! We were able to appreciate Hawaii for what it is, the beautiful country side (keep da country country… a local saying), beaches, local love and a since of relaxation. I could go on forever, just reserve it; you won’t regret it at all!! All I can say is… I’m saving for our next trip to Hawaii and this will be our first choice. That is, if it’s available :)Aloha from California,Paul & Sarah

I highly recommend the cottage to anyone who wants to commune with the ocean and still have the comforts of home. I just returned from a five-night stay in March and had a wonderful time. It is everything the owners say it is. The cottage is on a side street with no traffic noise. The only sounds are those of the waves and the tradewinds. It is beautifully appointed and cozy. The bed is extremely comfortable and the cottage is larger than I expected. Darcelle and Mike live just down the street and make sure everything is just the way it should be. Having lived in Hawaii for years and wanting to return to decompress, this was the perfect place - 30 minutes from Haleiwa, 30 minutes from Kaneohe and about an hour from the city proper. There is a grocery store in walking distance and a larger one about five minutes drive away although the restaurants are limited. But who could care about restaurants when you have kitchen facilities and two beautiful white sand beaches a short walk away. Somedays, there was literally no one on long stretches of beach. The best image I can give you is that I went to Haleiwa one day and to the city another to see friends. It was jarring leaving the peacefulness of the cottage and I could not wait to get back to it. Thanks to Mike and Darcelle for making the cottage available. Donn - Phoenix, AZ

We're missing it already. Our time in the bungalow during January and February was spectacular. Everything was perfect, couldn't ask for more. We were entertained daily by the fisherman, bobbing sea turtles, amazing whale watching and to top it off were graced by a Monk Seal, we called Molly, for an entire day. We enjoyed walking to the grocery and visiting with the local residents. Papa Ole's has great food and plenty of aloha. We were blessed to find this piece of paradise along with our new friends Darcelle, Mike, Summer and Inga. Thank you so much for showing us the aloha spirit at it's best. Gil & Trudy

We stayed in the beach house with some friends during the middle of January and it was awesome. Darcelle and Mike helped us with directions, places to visit, shopping, eating, and beautiful vistas. From our deck we watched the sunrises, neighboring locals catch fish and octopus, and felt the sea spray at high tide from the waves crashing against the sea wall. The moon and stars over the pacific provided a serene vista to enjoy before retiring with the sounds of the ocean to lull you to sleep. The location was in easy walking distance of 2 great places to eat and a very reasonably priced grocery & adult beverage store. We would enthusiasticly recommend the beach house and sincerely thank Darcelle and Mike for making our vacation in Hawaii even better than our dreams.

Dear Darcelle: What a memorable stay we had at your beautifully remodeled and decorated beach house. You are such a welcoming hostess and we all had an amazing time sitting on the deck and being sprayed by the waves from the sea wall. You can't get any closer to the ocean than this! I also loved being lulled to sleep at night by the sound of the waves and the full moon reflecting off the ocean outside the bedroom window. You have a remarkable location and it was so cool to see the eclipse over the gorgeous Hawaiin Pacific. We loved everything about our stay and can't wait to come back. Thanks again for everything and hopefully we'll be seeing you soon.

This is a house that is so relaxing. I felt like I was staying in my own place. I loved the sunrise and location. Darcell and Mike were so helpful. I would go back and take friends or family. If you want a place to relax, and be close to the north shore, this is the place. My husband used the fast internet to check on work and it worked great. I felt very safe and everyone in the area was friendly. Thanks again, Steve and Janie Kennett Garland, TX

Our family of 5 stayed here for our Oahu vacation. The home was recently remodeled and immaculate! Darcelle gave us some great shopping/dining tips and we thoroughly enjoyed staying on the northshore and having a more local experience! Easy drive to Hale'iwa and conveniently located near the great beaches..Sunset, Waimea Hau'ula, Kailua.

Sitting on a chair in deck hearing the sound of the ocean, watching twinkling stars in the sky just before going to bed, and waking up with beautiful sunrise..
