Authentic Log Cabin on Beautiful Silver Lake Traverse City
Year Purchased: 2000
Why the Owner Chose Traverse City
As a native of Traverse City, I grew up enjoying the lakes around the area. I was thrilled when Kurt and I had the chance to buy this log cabin. We worked hard to update it by adding modern amenities without losing the character and charm and that "up-north" feel. It is just ten minutes to downtown Traverse City, yet you feel like you are away from it all. Traverse City offers such a great quality of life along with many wonderful local shops and restaurants to enjoy.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
Our favorite thing to do during our stay at the cabin is pack up a picnic lunch and take a cruise around the lake on the pontoon boat. With the boat conveniently docked at the private sandy beach, there is little effort to enjoying the beauty of Silver Lake. This pristine, all sports lake, is the closest lake to Traverse City with easy access to everything. Our evenings usually consist of cooking delicious steaks from our family market, Burritt's Fresh Market while watching the fabulous sunsets. We always end the evening with a campfire next to the lake listening to the frogs and loons. Life doesn't get any better than that!
Owner's Map of Traverse City
We love to travel and have done so extensively with our two children. We have logged over 20,000 miles in our RV while taking our children to all fifty states. Even though we now we live in Black Mountain North Carolina, Traverse City is still considered one of the most beautiful places in the country in our book. We always look forward to spending time at the cabin because it is such a cozy and peaceful place.

The memories of our week at the log cabin will stay with me for many years- morning coffee by the lake, beautiful sunsets, fishing, lovely walks around the area, windsurfing and 7 wonderful days away from city life. Seven of us stayed comfortably in the cottage, 3 teenagers, the grandparents and us. The cottage worked very well meeting all of our needs; the kitchen had everything you could ask for, chairs at the beach and on the deck, even the towels and sheets were all nicely folded upon our arrival. We ventured off to Traverse City, Sutton's Bay and the Sand Dunes, all of which were quite close to the cottage. It was truly a vacation to remember.

My family just returned (today) from our trip up north staying at the cabin. As we packed up to leave today all we could talk about was how sad we were to leave and wished we had just one more day. We only stayed three nights and it was a BIG mistake seeing as none of us wanted to leave today. From the moment we arrived we just felt like we were at home. We didn't get out of our pajamas all weekend and just enjoyed every minute we spent at the cabin. When I walked in the door I was amazed - the cabin was so clean and the owners have though of everything you could ever need. Linens, pots/pans for cooking, utensils, board games, even frosted mugs in the freezer! The decor was so cozy and inviting and the space was just right. We are a family of 8 (6 adults, 2 small children) and we had plenty of room for all of us. The location and view was just perfect, right on a cove of the lake that is beautiful but also quiet (so you don't have to worry about noise or loud boats). We brought kayaks and enjoyed the lake, and we were within driving distance to anything and everything that Traverse City has to offer. The owners and the property manager were wonderful and so very nice, they have done a wonderful job making their place feel like home. If you are looking for a place to rent to bring your family, relax and enjoy a wonderful homey cabin then this is the place to rent. We are already planning next year's trip and talking about making it a yearly tradition. I could not have asked for a better vacation spot!!!

This was our first trip into Michigan, and the cabin was a perfect fit for our family...two adults, two college age boys, and one 8 year old. The cabin was just the right size for our family, with room for another person or two, and very nicely decorated and furnished, including a full size washer and dryer. The cabin is very private and uniquely located in a wooded area on the lake. The shade of the trees and the constant breeze off the lake made for enjoyable outdoor relaxing anytime of day. This was the only log cabin we noticed on Silver Lake. The owners were easy to deal with and helpful with information on places to go and things to do in Traverse City which was just ten minutes away...and there is plenty to do in Traverse City!

We spent a week at this cabin in early July, and we had a fantastic time. It's clean, well decorated, and the rental process was very easy. We have two small kids (3 and 2), and the beach was perfect for them. The cabin is also in a great location, only a 10-15 minute drive into Traverse City. Highly recommended!

My wife and three young boys stayed at the cabin. The place is beautifully decorated and has a very cozy and comfortable feel. The bunk beds provided enough room for the boys and the kitchen had everything we needed to make us feel like we were at home. It was so quiet there that we felt like we were camping in the middle of the woods. Our boys spent the mornings playing in the sand and swimming in the water. In the evenings we would take a short boat ride and then make smores at the fire. Also, the place is centrally located to a lot of great spots in Northern Michigan. We went to Sleeping Bear Dunes 4 different times, ate nightly in Traverse City and made side trips to Glen Arbor, Mackinac City, Mackinac Island and even went across the Mackinac Bridge to the UP. We couldn't have been more pleased with our trip to the cabin and plan to return in the future.

We had a wonderful week in this cabin. It was very clean and comfortable and is in a great location. If we wanted peace and quiet we stayed at the cabin. My grandchildren had so much fun swimming, fishing and playing in the sand. The cabin is a 10 minute drive to Traverse City where we enjoyed the Cherry Festival and looking through the shops downtown. We went horseback riding at Ranch Rudolf which is within fifteen miles of the cabin. Sleeping Bear Dunes also provided an afternoon of entertainment. We would definitely love to return.

We had a wonderful time here for a family wedding weekend. The cabin is an authentic log home that is beautifully decorated. You are on a big lake (Silver Lake) but on a little side cove, so it is always peaceful even though you have access to the whole lake. The fire pit was great to use at night, complete with a s'mores' kit. Our teenagers loved sleeping in the 'bunk room' in the front of the house. If you get a chance, make sure to look on the bookshelf and read Amy Burritt's book, 'My American Adventure' - she wrote the story as a girl when her family (who own this home) traveled the 50 states and Amy set a goal of meeting all 50 governors. Very impressive and inspiring! This home would also be cozy and relaxing in the winter.

The decorations are quaint but the furniture is threadbare and dirty, next door neighbors home looks like TC's version of Sanford and Son and if you are allerigic to mold you will need a lot of Benedryl. We did not stay the full week.
Owner response:Everyone who has stayed at our cabin has absolutely loved it and said it is so much better than the pictures show. Yes, one piece of furniture was wearing and we have since purchased new leather furniture to replace it, but it definitely does NOT have any mold. I personally stayed at the cabin the week before this renter and spent the entire week cleaning as I do at my home, and can say that it was very clean and there was no sign of mold ANYWHERE! I am very sensitive to people with allergies and hire a cleaning company every spring to do a thorough spring cleaning of the interior, including the logs. Unfortuneatly my personal view was that this person had to leave during his vacation for other reasons, never notified us of a problem, wanted his money back after the fact, and chose to take out his agression on my website. Other than that, we have had the best rentors in the world!

Very nice well kept property, private & secluded. Unfortunately, it rained 2/12 days out of the 3 we were there. The view of the Lake is beautiful when the suns out. The property owners are very easy to deal with. I would definately reccomend staying there.
Owner response:The cabin is a great place for families to get away and experience the "Up Feel" of Northern Michigan. It is a beautiful peaceful spot to enjoy the wildlife and beautiful Silver Lake.
