Our family thoroughly enjoyed staying at Southern Comfort. The house is clean, beautifully decorated and well stocked. We utilized the kitchen, although there are several restaurants in driving distance. The house has new furniture throughout, several TVs, fans, and new appliances and surfaces in the kitchen. The beach is VERY close and not over-crowded. We enjoyed watching the sunrise over the Gulf from the spacious deck. The owner was gracious and accommodating. We would definitely recommend this house for a family vacation.

I almost hate to tell y'all about this place, in case it gets so popular that I can't rent it next summer, but this place is amazing. My sister and I are pretty much the most persnickety people on the earth, and we were thrilled with everything about the whole rental experience and this house. The owners were wonderful from start to finish and beyond. This place has all of the amenities (like cooking and eating utensils, a washer and dryer, an outside hot and cold shower, a grill with propane at the ready, blender, toaster, coffeemaker, brand new dishwasher, new full-sized fridge/freezer that's way nicer than mine at home, etc.). Sigh. Heavenly.

Perfect Galveston Getaway!

My family and sister's family rented this gorgeous beach house for 4 nights and had an amazing time. The house itself is lovely and very thoughtfully, tastefully decorated. We were only a few short steps to the beach and had a beautiful, unobstructed view of the ocean from the deck (which is huge and has comfy lounge chairs and a picnic table). The house has a lot of amenities (dozens and dozens of kids' DVDs, TVs in each room, blenders, kitchen utensils, gas grill, etc.)........but by far the most-utilized feature was the outdoor shower. My 7-year-old never took a shower inside! The master bedroom bed is so comfortable I want one just like it in my house. The owners are incredibly friendly and make themselves completely available to us by phone, text and email. Wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Galveston.

We stayed here for a long weekend trip with our two kids. There are plenty of toys & movies to entertain young kids and adults, if the beach isn't enough! The house has very easy access to the beach, a wonderful deck with beach view, and plenty of room for everyone!

Comfort with a View

Very well-appointed beach house that's very convenient to the beach. It's hard to estimate the value of a close stay to the beach until you don't have to pack your entourage back and forth on consecutive days. We set up our canopy and chairs and left them out on the beach for 5 days without any concerns as it's a low traffic area and we had the beach largely to ourselves. The convenience of the kitchen, laundry and wonderful deck for lounging makes a trip to the beach a wonderful experience. The owners are very responsive and very gracious and they come highly recommended from this repeat tenant.

Charming Beach Home

This house was the PERFECT location. Far enough outside of town to avoid the crowds, but close enough to drive in for anything that is needed. We were literally a stone's throw from the water, and when we weren't on the water, we were enjoying the view from the large patio. Everyone was in agreeance that Southern Comfort was a perfect place to spend a nice beach vacation. I would recommend to anyone!

To the Wigle's, We had a fantastic time, everything was excellent at this property! It was everything and more than we could have dreamed. It was so fantastic, I know when we come back not to bring my entire kitchen with me!! The girls loved having their own bedroom/ bath, and the fact that we were so close to the beach, and of course the outdoor shower with hot water! Loved all of your little artifacts and the book on Hurricane Ike, and of course the TV's in every room.. Hope to talk with you later about our next trip. Thanks for checking on us to make sure we made the trip ok. Everything was spotless when we got there and I hope I was able to leave it that way. Bubba and Anne

My family absolutely loved staying at Southern Comfort. The house was beautiful and very well maintained. We found everything we needed and more at the house. The short walk to the beach was perfect for our children. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and being able to see the ocean. Our children loved being able to play out on the deck. The Wigle's also had toys and movies for children which definitley came in handy. Loved having a washing machine and dryer to use while there. It was a short drive to get back to the seawall which was perfect when we wanted to go out to dinner or go have fun in town. Jean was definitely a pleasure to work with and I would definitley recommend this property to anyone that I know.

Our experience staying at Southern Comfort was wonderful! The house is clean and provided everything that we needed. The view of the ocean is perfect and you are just a 30 second walk from the beach! I stayed here with three other girls for a ladies weekend, but I would defnitely rent again with my family. The house is set is well to accomodate children! Overall, we had a very relaxing, worry free time! The rental of this property was also very smooth! Thanks Southern Comfort, we had a great time!

My family of four had a wonderful time at this beach home. It was perfect for a small group and kid friendly. The home was comfortable and very clean. The kitchen was well stocked. The owner was very friendly and helpful with any questions. My husband and I enjoyed drinking our morning coffee on the porch with an incredible view of the water and then going on long walks on the beach and only seeing the fisherman. No crowds on the beach either. On a summer weekend the closest family on the beach was probably 75 feet away from us. Highly recommend trying a non-seawall restaurant called Shrimp and Stuff. Very casual, but good food. Would recommend bringing bugspray for the short walk from the house to the beach. No bugs in the house or on the beach though, just the short walk to the beach. We walked on the beach with the kids in the evening and felt completely safe. Would definitely rent this house again for a trip to Galveston.

We just stayed at Southern Comfort for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. The house is nice, very clean, and has everything you need. It is very close to the beach and the views are awesome. It was so relaxing sitting on the deck at night looking at the stars and listening to the waves. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return next year.

Great home for family vacation!

We rented this beach house so that we could have a place for our older children (7 & 5) to enjoy the beach and for our youngest child (6 months) to take naps and come in out of the heat. My in-laws also joined us for part of the trip so that we could spend some time with the older children at Schlitterbahn. The drive to the seawall and other parts of Galveston was easy and not too far. We made several trips during our stay for activities and dinner and no one seemed to mind. At the house, there was ample room for everyone and all of our things. I especially appreciated the size of the kitchen and dining area as we ate breakfast, lunch and two of the dinners at the house. The distance to the beach from the house was also great and the beach was not crowded. When the little one got fussy we were back at the house in no time. I would definitely recommend to others and we will be back the next time we plan a trip to Galveston.

Great vacation beach house

We had 4 wonderful days at Southern Comfort. It was everything and more that everyone had commented about and photos were exactly as portrayed. We went to Houston to visit my husbands 87 yr young mom for mother day. the family had owned a beach house years ago in Galveston and she loves the beach. The house is spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated and equipped with everything you could possible need. Its proximity to the ocean was perfect to strolls along the beach and the deck was wonderful for relazing and watching the seagulls glide over the roof tops. My husband was happy to find the store just a short walk away. Perfect location close to Galveston to see the sites and visit the old city. We had spoken Jean and Matt ( owenrs) so often we felt like friends before our arrival- and they called to be sure we had no trouble finding the place. We would definintely recommend Southern Comfort to anyone wanting a great beach housenear the water for a weekend or a month!

I made a last minute reservation to rent Southern Comfort and was so pleased with the accommodations. I wanted a beach cottage and I found a jewel. The house was very clean, comfortable and inviting. I would not hesitate to recommend this rental to families with children. This was my first VRBO rental, but it won't be my last. Thank you for a wonderful week.

The house was awesome, the location was great, just can't praise the place enough! We loved being away from all the traffic and crowds! My family & my brothers family were REALLY impressed at how well the house was prepared for kids of all ages. My neice and nephews found a new love on their first trip to the beach. They also enjoyed playing with the toys and games available in the house. We definitely plan to come back many times!

this place is really family friendly, away from the crowds, private & you could almost throw a rock in the gulf. for those that like to fish, there is a bait shop(live bait & artificial)across the street. galveston is a skip away for moody gardens, schlitterbahn & wonderful choices of food. highly recommended. you need to go & pass a good time!! oh yeah & the outdoor shower is such a treat after the beach!

We stayed 3 weeks in this house and had a WONDERFUL time. The house is really close to the beach, with a view from every window. The beach was quiet and very kid friendly, we swam everyday! We stayed at Southern Comfort for 7 days in March, 2009 - family of five, with kids aged 11, 8, and 3. Galveston was still recovering from Hurricane Ike but we decided to go ahead with our stay after a chat with the owners. We are thoroughly glad that we did so. The people were friendly, the beach house was great, the beach itself was not crowded, the restaurants in the area were excellent. We visited Moody Gardens, the Schlitterbahn Waterpark (a definite destination for kids), Johnson Space Centre, etc. Joe's Crab Shack is a great informal seafood place and a goldmine for unique t-shirt souvenirs. The owners of Southern Comfort were extremely helpful and the place itself was wonderful - great taste in music and movies as well. One can still tell that the Hurricane blew through last fall but the clean-up is well underway. The whole family was glad that we went ahead with our stay at Southern Comfort. We hope to be back.

The house is great. Well stocked and roomy. The view is great, and getting to the beach is just a short walk. The beach is nice, as it is not crowded like the public beaches. The outside shower has warm water which is nice on a cool day. I would definitely like to return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay at Southern Comfort and look forward to returning! The house is an easy walk to the beach and has gorgeous views throughout. Kitchen stocked with dishes, utensils, and good cookware - we cooked dinner everynight and had everything we needed. The owners are as pleasant as the house.

We really enjoyed our weekend getaway at Southern Comfort. The house is nicely furnished and maintained and has the latest in TVs, DVDs and CD players for those times when it's too hot or rainy outside. The beach is very close, and seems cleaner and less crowded than the larger developments. We even enjoyed the porch swing in the cool shade under the house. There was always something to do.

Southern Comfort is a great home base, located on the west end. We all enjoyed the beach, which was not at all crowded. The home is comfortable and well cared for. It lacks for nothing, right down to the hammock in the shade.

We stayed at "Southern Comfort" in early August, 2007. The house and location are wonderful! The beach is close and not crowded at all. The house has been recently painted and is clean and neat. The owners are friendly and helpful. We have been renting this same house for the last 9 years and always look forward to getting back there. We highly recommend "Southern Comfort"!

We stayed at this place last week, and it was great. The place was clean, really close to the beach, and the beach was nice too! The deck outside is really great, we spent all our evening outside with the breeze of the sea. Also, several movies for parents and kids are available!
