Casa de Abuela includes an authentic 1923 craftsman-style home and remodeled cottage north of downtown San Antonio in the up-and-coming Deco District. House architectural features include large wrap-around porch, high ceilings, arched windows, butler's pantry, gas fireplace and original hardwood floors throughout. The house is furnished with comfortable, attractive period pieces and is child and pet-friendly. It includes a master bath with a separate tub and shower and a half bath for extra guests.
The guest cottage (originally servants' quarters) has been remodeled to include a sleeping loft and full bath but retains its unique eccentricities. The cottage has a studio area that includes a day bed (with trundle), eating area, and cable TV. The bath features the original 1923 pedestal sink and an over-sized glass shower nestled in what was the wash room of the servants' quarters.
The property grounds are large (.28 acre) and beautifully landscaped with a fenced backyard. The setting is perfectly suited for small weddings, family reunions or holiday celebrations. There are multiple seating areas in both the front and back yards with ample grassy areas for eating, playing games and mingling.
The property is located in the Monticello Historic District with houses built between 1920 - 1940. It is within walking distance of Woodlawn Lake, a neighborhood park featuring walking/jogging trail, tennis, playground, swimming pool (in the summer) and lake.
Casa de Abuela is centrally located with easy access to all San Antonio's attractions. Downtown is 10 minutes away where you'll find attractions like the Alamo, River Walk, Children's Museum, San Fernando Cathedral (active since 1731, it's the oldest active sanctuary in the US), and El Mercado featuring famous Mi Tierra restaurant. The San Antonio Museum of Art, South Town art area, San Antonio Missions Historical National Park and world-famous Brackenridge Park are only 15 minutes away.
Brackenridge Park has attractions for children of all ages: San Antonio Zoo, a miniature train, play grounds, trails and streams filled with ducks, geese and swans. The miniature train makes several stops in the park and at the Witte Museum which features the HEB Tree House for children. From the park you are minutes away from HEB Central Market (a one-of-a-kind grocery store with foods from all over the world) and the McNay Museum, featuring permanent and touring collections. When you're ready for a longer jaunt, Fiesta Texas and Shops at LaCantera are a mere 20 minutes away. |
