This private and quiet house stands well back from the road on nine acres of gardens and woods, just 2 miles from the beach and water access.
This unique home, originally built in 1680, was restored by a local artist, whose love for old buildings, sense of space and years of gardening make it a welcoming and unusual space.
The upper house has three bedrooms sharing a sunny bathroom on the second floor. On the main floor there is a wonderful old kitchen opening into a large dining room with glass doors onto an herb garden. There is a library with books, puzzles, games, cable TV and internet access, and cozy sofas. There is also a half bath on this floor, and decks to the East and South with furniture for lounging and dining.
The land falls away behind the house to open in front of the lower unit, which has two bedrooms, each with a double bed, full kitchen with a dining and living area, and bathroom with shower. Outside the entry to this apartment there is an outdoor shower shaded by clematis; a great place to rinse off after a day at the beach. From here the lawn stretches out to the oak and pine woods, where several trails wander down to a shady stream with watercress and wildflowers.
Westport is an unspoiled, historic fishing and farming community defined by two rivers full of islands and marshes, and edged by a long white sand beach. The town has a range of wonderful restaurants, two nearby vineyards, farmstands, fish markets, great beaches five minutes away, birding, kayaking, and easy access to New Bedford (12 miles), Providence (30 miles) and Boston (60 miles).

In general, the house is available as one unit from June to Labor Day.
The two units can be rented separately as a last minute option (two weeks).
September to June the house can be rented as two units, contact owner for details.
