This is a vacation spot you will want to return to. Our cabin is in a beautiful setting, perched above the wild and scenic South Fork Smith River surrounded by beautiful forest. The peacefulness of this river environment will linger with you for months.
Relax in sun or shade on our large deck complete with nice furniture, or lounge on the edge of the river with an exquisite view of our beautiful swimming hole from the stone patio area. An amazing stone stairway winds down to a magnificent sandy beach, where you can sunbathe, wade or swim in the pristine waters of the Smith. The clear green water of this famous river will soothe your soul.
Enjoy regular sightings of Dippers, Kingfishers, Mergansers, Osprey, Great Blue Herons, an occasional Bald Eagle or River Otter. Mask and snorkel open a world of small salmon and trout fingerlings, large Cutthroat Trout, and an occasional large Spring Chinook Salmon.
Our cabin is a very comfortable A-frame which was completely remodeled in 2004. It features a very nice open kitchen fully supplied with everything you will need to prepare a feast. The floors are wood/laminate, with three large rugs.
A large bathroom has a shower/tub combination and large sink. A nice river rock hearth holds a wood stove to warm you, with firewood provided. A nice carpeted loft upstairs has a comfortable queen size bed and half bath, accessed by a spiral staircase.
Under one angled wall of the main floor is a nice sleeping bunk area with covered foam pads and storage underneath, suitable for sleeping bags for two or three. A set of three pads can be made into a queen sized bed on the floor. During spring and summer some people enjoy sleeping on the deck or pitching a tent outside for larger groups.
The campfire area just off the deck is a wonderful place to enjoy an evening of storytelling. Don't forget the marshmallows!

My husband and I stayed at this cabin for a semi honeymoon and it could not have been sweeter. Consequently, I had booked our trip at another location that ended up falling through at the last minute. Devastated and days to go we found the Jade River Lodge and called Joe. It truly ended up being a blessing and it could not have worked out any better! The cabin and scenery were beyond words. We could have sat on the chairs overlooking the river, or on their private beach for the rest of our lives and be happy. This is truly a magical place that we were so sorry to leave! Joe and Sally are the owners of the cabin and their home is next door. They had us over to their beautiful home, let us try all their homemade goodies from their gorgeous garden and even lent my husband a radio so he could listen to his beloved Forty Niners game! We were also greeted each day when we would open the door to the patio to Bella, their sweet golden retriever that loved to play fetch! Needless to say their hospitality was unsurpassed and the home and surroundings were incredible. We cannot wait to go back!!! Thank you Joe and Sally!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our family of four loved our stay at the Jade River Lodge and count it among our absolute favorite vacation rentals of all time! This spot on the Smith River is without peer. A deep, clear gentle pool for swimming, floating, and snorkeling with the fish awaited us every morning down a well-manicured stone pathway. We easily filled our days with activities like trips to ocean beaches, hikes in the redwood forest, antiquing, shopping at farmers markets, and exploring this spot on the river. Best of all, it was sunny and warm every day of our two week visit this Summer even when the coastal fog made nearby Hiouchi cold and gray. The Cabin is well laid out for vacationing. The kitchen is simple but great. We cooked all our meals in the house or out on the deck BBQ. We had as many as 8 people there for dinner one night with plenty of space, plenty of dishes, and everyone loving the peaceful location. We slept great in the upstairs lofted master suite, while our kids enjoyed the bunks downstairs. We weren't sure what it would mean to be "off the grid", and frowned when we read about gas powered generators in the description, but found the cabin to have all the necessary conveniences. A big plus for me was the quiet propane-powered refrigerator/freezer that kept our food well-chilled without any noisy electric compressor rumbling on and off all night long to ruin the ambience. At first we were worried about staying in a vacation rental where the owners lived nearby. Sally and Joe were warm and welcoming, laid-back and accepting, a wealth of information with any questions we had, and instant friends to our kids and ourselves. They were happy to have us over by their house to use the compost, pick berries, or ask questions, but we always felt like our cabin was private. Neither of them ever came over to our space. Bella, their golden retriever, is a sweet, quiet, playful dog who befriended us all (and we tend not to like dogs) and brought a lot of laughter and joy to our vacation there. Can't wait to come back!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This property was welcoming and the perfect spot to leave your cares behind. While standing topside, I was immediately mesmerized by the beautiful aqua water as it passed by. The sandy beach below allowed us a more intimate view. The cabin was perfectly situated within access to numerous trials within the Recreation Area, State and National Redwood Parks. I would recommend this place to any couple or family who wants to get away. The hosts are extremely pet friendly which made our stay even more enojyable. Even my Yorkie made a new friend, Bella (their Golden Retriever). She likes tennis balls, so pack one or two. We hope to return soon.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The place sells itself but when you add the hospitality and kindness of the owners it makes it that much more enjoyable. Cabin was really clean and cozy. Felt like you were miles away from everyone. Close to Howland Hill Rd which kept us busy for days and then the water hole was something out of your best imagination. Joe was talkative and friendly and shared his garden with us (my little girl loves the black berries) . Will defenitly be back and bring more of the family next timeDid you find this review helpful? We just returned from a week at Jade River Lodge. The hosts Joe and Sally were wonderful. The cabin was great, and well maintained. The swimming hole was a hit for all of us from age 5 upward. Our kids were so sad to leave. Since we got home, I keep going back and looking at the pictures of us with our friends and our children swimming in that majestic, clear, blue-green water....wishing we were still there! Joe and Sally are living our fantasy life in the home nearby. Absolutely wonderful!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing.
