This garden apartment is spacious and comfortable, a stylish and relaxing place to be with the tube and buzz of fashionable Upper Street at one end of the road, and the lush green open space of the park at your front door.
Situated on Highbury Fields in a turn of the century Victorian building this is a private home full of character with a mix of artefacts from the original dresser in the large kitchen-dining room to the modernist lamps and Aboriginal prints, with greenery and garden all around.
A large hall opens onto a calm sitting room with oak floor and comfortable sofa and chairs overlooking an enclosed rose garden. The flat is sunny and south facing. The master bedroom is quiet and pleasingly vibrant with stunning designer print wallpaper. The second bedroom has a bay window and French doors opening onto a small outside area. This room I use as a study, but it has a sofa which converts into a comfortable sprung double bed. The bathroom has both a well-flowing shower and bath. A utility room acts as washing and drying room, and the large kitchen-dining room is a great place for unwinding, spreading out and socialising.
The building is in a Conservation area with historic, literary and film connections. Remember the thunderstorm scene in Four Weddings and A Funeral? Just up the road. Georgian houses line the other side of the park, the Estorick collection of Italian futurist art is a short walk away.
The park has tennis courts which can easily be hired, a public swimming pool. Lots of people jog. For foodies, the area is deli-heaven. Specialist food shops abound, and the local shopping parade has one of the best cheese shops in London, run by the only qualified Grand Fromage (France’s top cheese qualification) in Britain.
You can enjoy central London as much as you like from here, but at the end of the road Upper Street, Islington, itself also has its own rich mix of boutiques and special interest shops to wander around - plus the Almeida theatre, historic Camden Passage and some terrific eateries among the dozens of restaurants and award-winning gastropubs available to explore. Sadlers Wells, London’s home of contemporary dance, is also nearby.
LOCATION - go to Google Maps. Type in Upper Street, London, N1. It will show you Highbury Fields & tube station. Click on left arrow on map: it will show the area in relation to Regent's Park & Camden, etc.
I am happy to welcome 1-4 people. I will adjust rates accordingly. |
