This coach house apartment is in a completely restored, oceanfront traditional New Englander (The Southerly) that has the old-fashioned charm of days gone by. Enjoy great views of the Penobscot Bay, the boats in Searsport Harbor, Islesboro across the Bay, and Sears Island nearby. Steps across the croquet lawn (also good for bocce or badminton) take you to the beach or to the town wharf for fishing, boating, or kayaking. Take a five minute walk to Searsport town center for restaurants, a family-owned supermarket, antique shops, bookstore, library, etc., and the historic Penobscot Marine Museum.
The newly restored apartment is bright and airy with a fully-equipped eat-in kitchen, a nicely furnished master bedroom suite with a king-size bed (or two twins), a separate bedroom for a child or third person, telephone (with free long distance within the continental US), cable TV, DVD player, stereo system with CD player, wireless internet, private entrance, and off-street parking.
After you've finished kayaking or searching for sea glass on the beach, prepare a barbecue on the gas grill, or enjoy a drink, watching the sun set, from the Adirondack chairs next to the shore. On the Fourth of July you can watch the fireworks in Mosman Park from our gazebo. It's also a perfect spot for watching the Lobster Boat Races in August.
Searsport was an important shipbuilding center in the 1800's and housed many of the sea captains who sailed the seven seas in the clipper ships built here. Also known as the Antique Capital of Maine, it has numerous galleries and antique shops, including several flea markets that merit a visit. Moosepoint State Park is minutes away, as is historic Fort Knox and the newly constructed Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory Tower, with its fabulous views of mid-coast Maine. Charming Belfast, Lincolnville Beach (with ferry to Islesboro), and Camden are also close. The international airport in Bangor is about forty-five minutes away, and Mount Desert Island with Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor is about an hour East on the coastal highway. |
