Great home if you want to clean house

We rented this house, mainly for the size of the kitchen & dining room, as we were hosting a rehearsal dinner. When we showed up the house was not clean - there was dirt and sand in the entry way, all the interior furniture had layers of dust built up, the outside patio furniture was dirty and not useable in the condition it was, in the kitchen, along the cabinets there was a ¼” of dirt, animal hair, and grime build up, as well as the counters were sticky. The floors were not vacuumed and the house had a musty smell to it. The outdoor BBQ was so dirty, that he would need to be scrub down to use it. We then contacted the property manager & she came over to see the property, made some notes, the next morning, their maintenace person showed up, and spent appx. 1/2 there. Needless to say, the first 2 days of our vacation was cleaning the house. I informed the manager, that since we had to clean the house prior to enjoying our time, that a portion of the cleaning deposit should be returned - Needless to say that didn't happen. I then emailed the owner regarding this and to date, he hasn't responded. We use VRBO all the time, and this is the first time, we've ever walked into a home this bad. I wouldn't recommend this property to anyone unless you really like cleaning. Also, that week we were there it rained and the 2 enclosed sunrooms leaked.

Owner response:The cleaning issues were addressed and the situation was resolved. Asking for a refund after the cleaning has been done is like reporting hair in your food at a restaurant and proceeding to ask for a full refund after you’ve eaten the entire meal. You can please some of the people all of the time or all of the people some of the time; but some people you just can’t please at all. Now that I’ve eaten everything, can I have my money back? P.S. Here is a review written by one of your family members found in the Guestbook: We all had a great time...All of us. The accommodations were fantastic! Beautiful home with a beautiful view. This was our first time to southern California. We did get to see the ocean, once the rain stopped. Thank you so much! P.P.S. Here is another review from a different family member found in the guestbook: Well worth the drive from Sacramento. Great accommodations, great company, great fun! Lots of room for activities. Loved the 1/4 bathroom, brilliant! Really nice hot tub and a cozy garage. Lots of knick knacks could be distracting to some. Watch out for stray golf balls!

Villa Antonio was a terrific retreat for our group of 20 people, consisting of several families with kids. We especially enjoyed the roomy dining room, living room and kitchen. The location is great too. The house is very nicely decorated while still being kid-friendly. Also, the house was well maintained. We found the owner to be very responsible. We would definitely recommend this property to friends.

I don’t ever get into writing reviews on stuff but what are those folks complaining about? Our Hill & Dale Hikers club had a great time at the villa and there were 14 of us. You know how they say you can never get a group of people to agree about anything? Well our gang had nothing but good things to say about your house. After long hours on trails and dunes, we couldn’t wait to get back out on the deck, do BBQs and then soak in your oversized hot tub! I don’t know anywhere else that you could do all that under one roof. For sure we’ll be back!

WOW we had the best time at the Villa clean and neat and very stocked and has it all large families will love this place right on the ocean front views are spectacular children love this place and plenty of playing spaces everywhere and more toys and games then they can use also adults have adults and major tv's and dvd's everywhere: back yard is a state park and the 5 minute drive to the strand beach is easy

Mini Vacation

My family wasn't able to get together during the holidays this year so we took the opportunity this month to have a long weekend together on the central coast. the central coast of California is one of our favorite places to visit but we always have trouble finding a place big enough. Now that we have been adding more members to our family, we needed an even bigger place. Villa Antonio turned out to be great. Between my three sisters and brother we had 9 kids in the house. They loved playing with all the games and toys. and the place was big enough that the adults could do their own thing while the kids played. The weather was a bit rainy on one of the days but the owner gave us great suggestions for sightseeing and dining - we went to the pismo beach monarch butterfly grove. I would recommend this place to big families because there is tons of space. the next time we can all get together my family will be coming back here!

GREAT Big Family Weekend!

Your villa looked mighty good to us. We had a terrific time with our big cousins’ reunion at the beginning of this month that I don’t think we could have enjoyed as much anywhere else. The many bedrooms gave us all privacy we needed while the common areas (kitchen, eating alcove, 2 fireplace rooms) allowed us all the together time we wanted. LOVE the views and natural light in the great room. And all the amenities and supplies made us feel at home. This is probably the only place in this area that could fit all of us. The rental process was easy, the owner has a full staff to support, and all of my questions were answered upfront. Afterwards our security deposit was promptly refunded in full. The whole shebang couldn’t have been better. Thanks. We will definitely consider this place the for our next reunion!

Pretty old, dirty and smells like a thrift store.

The up side is it is big, but not worth being a rental home. I would hate for anyone else to pay to go stay here where it doesn't even have the potential to be cleaned. Its dated, dusty and in an odd neighborhood. Not worth it.

Owner response:Not worth being a rental? Amazing comment after you just paid $3,500 to stay there. We have 47 rave reviews and happy renters who love our Villa. The "odd" neighborhood you're referring to is actually the most expensive neighborhood to live in around the area. Interesting to think someone would say our neighbors and houses are odd. Golly gee Robin, if a 4,000 square foot house in the most expensive area isn't good enough for you, what is?

Overall, this property is great for a large family or group. Lots of room and lots of space for everyone. We had a family gathering of 10 adults and 7 children and the living, dining, kitchen area were great plus the view was amazing. It has wonderful windows. It is difficult to find a listing that would accommodate a large group. It was fully stocked with almost everything you might need including linens and pack n plays and gates for babies. It was described as sleeping 20-25 which would be possible, but that would mean people on couches and would be a bit cramped. The house looks just like the photos on the property listing and it was well maintained and pretty clean. The back area with the hot tub was a bit run down. I would recommend this property rental especially for a family or larger group. The living area upstairs was wonderful for eating, talking, games, and just hanging out. We made some new Christmas memories at the Villa.

This is a great house for a family vacation or reunion! The location is ideal - gorgeous views of Morro Bay and Morro rock, and just a short drive from Montana de Oro State Park. The house itself is incredibly spacious and welcoming. The kitchen had everything we could need, and was the perfect place for us to congregate and spend time together while cooking big meals. We would definitely return to the villa!

We had a great time at the Villa Antoinio for the week of Thanksgiving. The kitchen was well equipt, The beds were really comfortable, the house was wonderful and stocked with lots of fun things to do. The house is right across from the golf course offering a beautiful view of the green and Morro bay. Several of us get together every Thanksgiving and this place was by far our Favorite! Your Villa is our favorite place to stay in the Morro Bay area. We love hanging out in the big front room. The home is so kid-friendly and we appreciate that as well. There’s just a nice personal touch here that you don’t find at other places, like plenty of games for the little ones and bikes and golf gear for the big kids, meaning us! Your employees are very helpful and polite in answering all the questions we’ve had. For sure we will come back again when we plan our next visit to this area.

Thanks for the great stay at the Morro Bay Villa. It was great to have a house that could fit our whole group, and it made things like meal time much more enjoyable than any hotel could have. Huge family group came to Los Osos for a wedding and we rented two houses in town - one for the grandparents and one for the younger generation and their kids. The younger crowd of almsot 24 of us rented this house and couldn't believe the number of supplies - dishes, cups, towels towels and more towels, sheets, beds - and the vast space. We couldn't have picked a better place for our crowd. at night all the grandparents came over for dinner and we never once felt crowded. If we ever come back to this part of town, this is the first place we will rent.

We plan on returning next year. We love the house and love the location. There's plenty of room for everyone to fit in the living room and dining room at the same time. The new spa tub is great. My group loves this place.

Not as advertised!!!

We took a family vacation at this location based on it advertised as an 8 bedroom house (which was how it was advertised when we put our deposit down). Three generations of our family, from 2 years old to over 70 were there, for a total of 18 of us, many from out of state. House was NOT as advertised. It actually had 4 bedrooms and beds placed in other "areas", some not fit for sleeping. The carpeting was filthy and covered with (no kidding) 42 throw rugs to cover the stains. Not only was this gross but it caused a safety hazard as well as there were several instances of tripping, one of which the 2 year old crashed into a chair and hit her head. The hottub had clearly not been cleaned from the previous guests. It was already hot when we arrived (so it wasn't emptied as stated) and we could see sand at the bottom. THe water got so funky after 2 nights of use we couldn't use it anymore. We told management about this and they supposedly added chemicals but it stayed gross... so no more hottub. We expressed our concerns about all the problems and the false advertising to the manager of the property when we arrived but nothing was done. None of us actually stayed the entire week we paid for because it was just too uncomfortable. We further expressed our displeassure to the owner after the trip and his response was we should have let him know we were unhappy immediately (which we did) and not stayed there. There were 18 of us... where would we have gone!?! We also found it interesting there were several pages torn out of the guest book... hmmm... We also had trouble with the electrical in the house as a fuse would blow when the microwave was used. The owner blamed us for this. I would NEVER recommend this house to anyone. We would never have looked at renting this home if it was advertised correctly. On the plus side, the kitchen was well equipped and there was plenty of seating for us all in the dining area. Morro Bay and the surrounding areas were beautiful and I definitely want to go back, just not to this house. We did ask for a partial refund due to the problems and the owner was not receptive at all. I will not be surprised if this comment gets deleted... just like those pages in the guest book.

Owner response:We take great pride in the services and hospitality we offer through our only vacation rental as they are clearly illustrated on our website. In addition to photos and videos of the property, there are dozens of positive reviews posted by previous guests who were more than thrilled with their stay. If Villa Antonio was not suitable to this tenant’s needs, then this is something that should have been thoroughly addressed at the beginning of the trip. To stay for the entire trip and then request a refund is simply not acceptable. Efforts were made by the management to resolve the tenant’s concerns. However the tenant failed to keep a walk through appointment with the management. Without proper communication from the tenants, resolving issues becomes difficult. We do our best to provide a great place to vacation. The positive reviews from previous guests speak volumes.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

I see that there are 26 reviews of this property, all with perfect 5-star ratings. We had a different experience. The Good: Beautiful views of the bay and golf course from the spacious upstairs living area. Pleasant neighborhood! The Bad: The site advertises sleeping for 21-25 in 8 “bedrooms” but calling some of the places where beds were crammed “Luxury Sleeping Rooms” is a stretch. There were only 14 of us (5 couples and our kids), but with only 3 private and 1 semi-private bedrooms in this house, one couple actually ended up having to rent a room at a hotel for the week to have privacy. Extremely disappointing! Although there are literally beds EVERYWHERE, several are crammed into screened decks that are nothing more than walkway access to other decks. Even the kids didn't want to use these “deck rooms”. This house has only 2 showers and one of them is in the master bathroom, with a steep step up then down into the funky tub/shower. We nearly slipped getting in/out and do not recommend it. Everyone else in the house had to share the lone downstairs shower. The house is walking distance to be beach, provided you don’t mind scaling huge/steep sand dunes. After 1 try we drove. The dining room rug was a tripping hazard. The hot tub was set to 92 degrees with strict instructions not to change it. I have a hot tub and 92 is warm at best, definitely not inviting in the cool Morro Bay weather. Didn't see the “Buckingham Palace-style Floral Landscaping & Rose Garden”, perhaps you will. The kitchen is decent but way too small for a house that purports to sleep 21-25 people. We were crowded preparing meals for 14 of us. There are a million pots and pans but many are either unnecessary or way past their prime. I brought my own non-stick pan for cooking eggs and was very happy I did. Oh, and we had to wash everything well before putting it into the dishwasher to get it clean. The Ugly: Strange nicknacks and hanging Kimono’s everywhere. The video and photos do not do it justice. Would have been very tough with toddlers. My brother received numerous strange bites shortly after arrival. Fortunately none of the rest of us did so maybe the biters were confined to his room or not related to the Villa at all, but his experience was very unpleasant There were some positives but I wish we had checked it out in person before renting. Next time I'll be wiser.

THE ONLY WORD TO DESCRIBE OUR EXPERIENCE IS DISASTER!!! I NOTICED THE OTHER COMMENT ON HERE WHERE THEY HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE AS OURS. WE ARRIVED AT THE HOME TO FIND NOT 8 BEDROOMS BUT 4 BEDROOMS. THE OWNER ORIGINALLY ADVERTISED THE HOME AS HAVING EIGHT BEDROOMS. THREE OF THE BEDROOMS WERE VERY SMALL. TWO OF THE OTHER SO CALLED BEDROOMS ARE DECK ROOMS THAT ARE COMPARABLE TO SLEEPING IN A TENT ON THE BEACH. THE OTHER TWO DIDN'T EVEN EXIST. THEY HAD A LIVING ROOM DOWNSTAIRS THAT I GUESS THEY WERE CALLING A BEDROOM AND A OFFICE THAT IS 5' WIDE AND 12' LONG THAT THEY WERE ALSO TRYING TO CALL A BEDROOM. IT ADVERTISES THAT IT FITS 20-25 BUT WE HAD TO SLEEP ON TOP OF EACH OTHER. I WOULD BE COMFORTABLE TO SAY IT FITS ABOUT 10 PEOPLE. NOW LETS GET INTO THE REST OF THE HOUSE. THE HOME WAS FILLED WITH FURNITURE AND DECORATIONS FROM DIFFERENT THRIFT STORES OR YARD SALES. WE HAD TWO DOGS WITH US THAT WERE KEPT OUTSIDE. THE OWNER KEPT THE DEPOSIT ON THE DOGS AFTER ACCUSING OUR DOGS OF BRINGING FLEAS INTO THE HOUSE. THE DOGS DIDN'T COME INSIDE, BUT I BELIEVE THE FLEAS WERE ALREADY IN THE HOME FROM THE LACK OF CLEANING. I ALMOST FORGOT THE BEST PART. THE BEACH IS ABOUT AN HOUR HIKE OVER THE STEEPEST SAND DUNES I HAVE EVER CLIMBED. THE KIDS HAD TO TURN BACK BECAUSE OF THE HIKE BEING TOO STRENUOUS. NEEDLESS TO SAY THAT WHEN WE CHECKED OUT THE NIGHTMARE WAS NOT OVER. THE OWNER OF THE HOME NITPICKED EVERY LITTLE THING IN THE HOUSE DOWN TO A DISH BEING OUT OF PLACE. HE MENTIONED SOMETHING BEING OUT OF PLACE IN THE PANTRY. WE ALSO WERE DOCKED FOR LEAVING A POT DOWNSTAIRS. NEEDLESS TO SAY OUR DEPOSIT WAS NOT RETURNED BECAUSE OF CRAZY ACCUSATIONS. THE DOG DEPOSIT WAS HIGHER THAN THE PEOPLE DEPOSIT AND THAT WAS NOT RETURNED EITHER. I AM ONLY POSTING THIS TO SAVE YOU FROM THE STRESS THIS VACATION CAUSED US NOT ONLY DURING OUR STAY BUT AFTER AS WELL. THE ONLY THING THAT WOULD OF MADE US HAPPY WAS TO BE ABLE TO FIT ALL 20 OF US IN THE HOME, BE SOMEWHAT CLOSE TO THE BEACH, AND GET OUR DEPOSIT BACK IN THE END. NOT ONE OF THESE WERE FULFILLED. LIKE I SAID THIS WAS ONE OF THE WORSE VACATIONS EVER!!!

Owner response:Tent sized bedrooms? See our video and 50 more pictures on www.morrobayvilla.com. We don't see any small, tent sized bedrooms. We cater to large families that easily sleep 24 and up to 30 comfortably. See the other great positive testimonials. As far as the DOGS are concerned--yes, UNAUTHORIZED dogs inside our private villa is unacceptable behavior and have no permission to be inside. You folks were VERY ABUSIVE saying your dogs were not inside when there were dog food and water dishes in the living room, dining room and bathrooms. Yes we kept your WHOLE deposit for obvious abuse, and if you had any clear rights to get it back than you would have taken actions to get the money back. Since you DID NOT do this, it clearly demonstrates that you were 100% at fault. Rental deposits and dog deposits are not returned for obvious abuse. Sand dunes ARE NOT the beach. The beaches are clearly shown to be an 8 minute drive to the main beach and 5 minutes to the state beach, Montana de Oro.No one goes to the sand dunes, which is a very dangerous hike and not recommended. What, were you not thinking?

We had such a lovely time at Villa Antonio. There were so many fun and exciting places to explore just in our backyard. What a great beach town. The views from the home were just absolutely beautiful. We spent a lot of time cooking big meals and having fun. Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Villa Antonio.

Great house for our family reunion. Fair skies everyday gave us the benefit of the beautiful scenery. Loved having a place where we could all sit down and enjoy a meal together.

Our family had a wonderful time in your home - We loved having such a spacious place with plenty of beds & baths. The view is great and the location very nice. Highly recommend the horseback riding with J&J Ranch! The owner & her horses were great! Would love to stay here again. Thank you.

We stayed the last weekend of Sept. 2008. This was a perfect setting for my groups knitting retreat. The pictures on the internet are so accurate. The place is decorated with such beauty and feels so homey. Plenty of room for us all to sit in the comfortable livingroom and knit at the same time. We all fit into the diningroom for meals which was good because it wound up being too cold of a weekend to use the outside BBQ area. Many of the group have already planned to return again in 2009 and we are thinking about adding an extra day to the retreat. Thanks Antonio.

02/12/08 What a beautiful house. We were thrilled when we got here. The beds are heavenly and loved snuggling for the night. What a warm, charming, bright comfortable house – We couldn’t have felt more at home. Loved the light in the shower, candles on the mantle. Didn’t want to leave. Our Morro Bay/Los Osos l visit was quintessential perfect – a sublime experience and staying in your home was the best choice of all. What a wonderful get-a-way in a beautiful part of the world.The house is a real treat- well appointed well equipped and very convenient. The house is filled with charm and has tons of style. Thanks for making our trip so comfortable and enjoyable. We’d love to come back.

We had a wonderful relaxing stay. We walked to the beach, to town for dinner and to the Mission for Mass. What a pleasure to stay at VILLA ANTIONIO . When we return to the CENTRAL CALIF USA, this home will be our first choice.Perfectly charming. It’s French/.Italian European atmosphere is uniquely blended with modern touches, especially the marvelous light coming into the house from all the windows.Thanks for doing so much to make this a charming and welcoming place

7/21/08 When we first booked the villa Antonio, we were uncertain of the area as we never have been to the central coast California before. But the villa has everything, great views spectacular luxury and exquisite taste for European design. We were well rested and enjoy every day in total comfort from Jacuzzi, gourmet dining experiences with local fresh fish and farmer markets. It was truly like being on the mediterranian. Day trips are a must to Hearst Castle, Montana De Oro is one of the most amazing ocean walks anywhere, horse back riding on the beach to sailing/kayaking on the Morro Bay, sight seeing/shops/restaurants/exceptional boutique gift shops and San Luis Obispo is truly one of the most luxury cities in the United States. We especially enjoyed the farmers market on thursday night, its like a country fair music/food faire/ and local entertainment. We cannot wait to return to the villa of our dreams...

08/02/08 Our whole family had the best Holiday ever. This Villa was more then we expected not like any other rental we have stayed its truly a Luxury Home. Had great dinine experiences in this Gourmet Kitchen and many great nights in the Jacuzzi enjoying wines from the local area just like Sideways. Cant wait to return its the best vacation ever. 8/27/08 We really had the time of our lives. It was our first time to Morro Bay – Central California-; it was our honeymoon and wanted to do something very special. The Villa turned out to be quite amazing and more than we had expected. It was a wonderful week and plan to return soon.
