Sunny Mill River Colonial: Tennis Court & Pond on 32 Acres!
1/5

This house was so awful we had to leave after one night

Guest: Anonymous
Date of Stay: 08/18/11 Review Submitted: 09/17/11

This house was atrocious. It smelled of pee and mildew and not to mention it was dirty. All of the guests chose to leave after one night. I wouldn't be surprised if their were bed bugs here. We were all worried about that. Unfortunately we were up there for work and we couldn't just return home so we had to scramble and find other accommodations and ended up on couches for the most part. It was also quite strange in how the house was designed. It was as if two houses were joined together. Doorways were either too high or we had to duck from one room to the next because they were too small. And nothing has ever been updated. The kitchens were gross and dirty and old. No one would have dreamed of cooking in them. When I explained to rental manager that we were leaving because the house was disgusting she checked with the owners about some sort of refund for the remainder of the stay. The owners refused because we were their first complaint. Well I found that to be very bad business. If you have a complaint you should do something about it. Not use an excuse that maybe some other party found it okay so you need to accept that as well. It doesn't work that way if you want to rent again. I say stay clear of the Mill River House for sure!!!

Owner response:It impossible to please everyone even though that is what we would like to do. This is an older home and I believe it tells that story in the pictures and in the write up as well. This particular renter came for a 3 night stay in the middle of August after a successful rental season in which we had not had any complaints. The house has been rented for years, both both summer and winter, and most find the lumpy-bumpy quality of the house and the lovely grounds quite charming. The house had been cleaned just prior to arrival and I was not notified that there was an issue until the morning of the third day. I do my best to respond to a specific issue as quickly as possible but I was not given a chance to respond. With years of experience behind me I understand that property was not a good match but I do not agree with the reviewer's comments. There are many old books in the house that, when the house is more humid, can create a musty smell so we are editing many of these out. Please note there are not bedbugs in the house, nor are they common to find them in the Berkshires. We certainly hope this stays that way! The reviewer would be advised to stay with comments about what she knows to be true.
