Nestled in a private community, hidden in the forest with views of the mountains and the lake, Pocomoonshine, once discovered, becomes a cherished sanctuary many times for many generations. Hark back to a former time--a simpler time--far away, yet close to everything.
Our year-round camp entices everyone with its rustic charm, multilingual library, large country kitchen, screened porch, and garden with Adirondack chairs. Our camp was restored and refurbished to offer modern comforts, yet we cautiously kept its antiquarian charm. There is a wood stove to take the chill out of the cool nights and a hot tub to warm up your spirit. Plentiful windows frame a landscape where you feel in concert with and cradled by Mother Nature. Enjoy your morning coffee, fish, or watch the sunset from our private dock. You will never want to leave and will always await your return.
Augur Lake is sequestered between two miracles of nature, Poke-O-Moonshine Mountain with 1,100 million year-old walls resembling a gothic cathedral, and Ausable Chasm with its intense energy from the whitewater coursing rapidly through the deep gorge.
We are in the heart of the "Bread Basket" of the Adirondacks, where valley farms offer organic eggs, dairy, and produce biodynamically grown. There are apple orchards too!
High Peaks form the backdrop for these vistas, inviting hikes and explorations of many swimming holes, waterfalls, natural springs, caves, lakes, rivers, and High Falls Gorge.
On Lake Champlain, only a few miles away, there is a private beach and boat launch for our community, as well as a ferry to Burlington, Vermont.
Both bedrooms feature queen-size beds fitted with brand new orthopedic mattresses. All bedding and linens were chosen for their high quality and esthetic appeal. Creating a pleasing and comfortable nest was one of our primary concerns.
The master bedroom whispers of enchantment decorated with an interesting synergy of Nature, Native American style, and original world art. Special accents include bamboo shades, red velvet curtains draping the closet, plenty of pillows, and candles, resulting in an alluring atmosphere that stimulates all the senses.
The cheerful resplendence of the second bedroom heralds the child within each of us. The red wall creates a perfect background for the log bed covered with a patchwork quilt and cacophony of pillows. One cannot wait to hug the Rag Doll or play with the wood carved horse. The hand-woven carpet placed on the rustic hardwood floor offers a perfect spot for such play.
The queen-size futon is located in the Living Room/Library. Here one (or two or three) sleep in this great open room with high ceilings, twin paddle fans overhead, a wood stove blazing, and a dreamcatcher to protect your sleep.
The atmosphere created at Pocomoonshine parallels so many of the adventures cited in the hundreds of books waiting for you on the bookshelves. Antique lamps provide lighting, and animal masks adorn the wall. Share scary stories or listen to gentle lullabies of Chopin played on the LP record player.
Where will you choose to go in your dreams tonight?
There is a full tub with a shower in the bathroom. In case you have forgetten them, extra toothbrushes, razors, and special toiletries are provided for your convenience.
The heart of the house is the good ole’ country kitchen. It is warm and inviting for gathering together or sitting in solitude on the window seat and taking in the beauty of nature, while indulging in the aroma of the herb garden just beyond. The butcher block with cooking pots hanging above calls to the chef to create that memorable meal. He/she will find no tools lacking for that task.
The antique cherry dinner table is a perfect place for a romantic dinner for two or for the entire family to gather to have an evening of reflective conversations and competitive board games.
Fresh breezes blow in from the adjacent enclosed screened porch-- a perfect place to greet the morning or soak in the rays of the setting sun. The colorful radiance of this room hugs you with joy and happiness. The Mexican tile table, wrought iron cushioned couch and chairs, and swinging chair create an atmosphere that may inspire the artist within you. Songs about children were once written on this porch. |
