This charming cottage on Southport Island is close enough to Boothbay Harbor to get to all the activities easily but far enough away to be a peaceful retreat. The place has the feel of a well-loved summer cottage and is filled with comfortable furnishings, books and coastal artwork obviously chosen over many years. For those who find modern luxury condos sterile, this is just the place. The owners have the kitchen fully stocked with anything you might need including a pot big enough for lobsters. The kitchen also has most of the basics on hand like coffee filters, some spices, teas, paper towels, plastic bags, etc. They only ask that you replenish anything you use up. We had plenty of room for our family of four and enjoyed quiet evenings playing cards, reading and watching movies. We suggest a trip to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and the Porter Preserve, both of which are nearby. We rented kayaks from Gray Homestead Camping which was the perfect way to see the island from the water. The fish market is walking distance as is the swing bridge. The owner communicated with us promptly and the contract set out expectations clearly. I can't say enough nice things about the cottage or the Boothbay area in general.

Your cottage spoke volumes to us: a love of coastal village life, the carefree endless summers of childhood and joyful family gatherings. Thank you for letting us linger for a little while. We found the relaxation we sought, and that is the magic of coastal Maine.

Pleasant visit! Recommend Cape Newagen Town Landing at sunset. And of course the lobster bought from the boat. Public computers and WiFi at the libraryas well as the coffee shop. Lovely week.
