Located just a ten-minute walk to the Jardin (the town center), the studio apartment called Casita La Mariposita("The Little Butterfly") has a bird's-eye view to the South of tile roofs and green hillside, and to the East, of the Picacho Mountains through the trees.
Comfortable furnishings: This snug second-story aerie (about 300 sq.ft. inside plus a private patio) is perfect for one or two adults, with king-size bed. It has a warm and sunny sunroom facing south with over-sized windows. The sunroom is furnished a sink and refrigator, cabinets, microwave, coffee machine and a table and chairs... You can see trees and flowers in the back yard, as well as the trees and greenery of the hills and Los Picachos. Furnishings are casual, with "equipale" (rustic wood and leather chairs) covered in native fabrics, hand-woven cotton curtains, hand-done paintings, serigraphs and native handicrafts. The bathroom comes complete with clothes closet, sink cabinet with drawers, with huge mirror over the sink, and a toilet and shower.

Services: Our trusted maid, Remedios, comes twice a week to clean up, and tend to the sheets and towels. She will do the guests' personal laundry in the owner's machine for 60 pesos (US $5.00) a load (as long as the guests furnish laundry soap), and ironing for US$5.00 an hour. The gardener comes 3 times a week to care for the potted plants. There is a private cell phone, use of a Vontage phone to provide free long-distance calls to US and Canada (in owners' quarters downstairs) as well as a wireless Internet for your laptop, a basic cable TV, and a boom-box for CDs.
Terrific location: The Botanical Garden (great for an evening stroll beside the lake, an early morning jog on gravel paths, or bird-watching) is just a fifteen-minute walk away (entrance fee). The new mall, with a large supermarket, banks, a department store, specialty shops and restaurants (sushi, Chinese, Mexican, Italian coffee shop, even a McDonalds!) is a 35-minute walk (take a taxi back for the equivalent of US $2.00). Academia Hispana, a Spanish-language school, is just a five-minute walk--at the head of Calle Mesones. The closest restaurant is La Puertecita at the hotel five minutes walk up (away from town) from the Arcos on Santo Domingo. The central Jardin, with restaurants, shops and museums is 10 minutes' walk down (20 minutes' walk back up--excellent built-in aerobic exercise!). A small spa with lap swimming pool and exercise room is available a 5-minute walk towards town. They charge approximately US$50 a month/person, or $5.00 a day/person.
Option: La Mariposita is the "second bedroom" of Casa Las Palomas in VRBO #2615. Also, we own another apartment on the front of the house called Casita Las Golondrinas (VRBO #1122)... The two apartments can be rented together, if they are available, to form a inter-connected 3 bedroom, 3 bath place (with 2 living rooms and dining table for 6-8, and two and a half kitchens) which sleeps up to 6 (or 8 if you count the hideabed). We stayed in Judy.s lovely apartments for a week. We had a fabulous experience. It was like waking up every morning in a tree house. The apartments were beautifully decorated, had great views and were very clean. San Miguel Allende is a special place and very safe. Thank you, Judy Jodi Taylor

We spent March staying in the charming Casita Los Colibris. It offers every feature advertised, and more. For example, we enjoyed waking each morning to the sight of a jacaranda in full blossom outside the bedroom window and marvelling at spectacular sunsets with friends--and margaritas--on the roof patio. The landlady, Judy, is delightful and accommodating. A terrific complement to the wonderful attractions of San Miguel de Allende, itself. We look forward to our next visit and stay in Casita Los Colibris.

I had an absolutely delightful time staying in Los Colibris. Awash in sunlight with expansive rooftop views, I can reommend this casita to anyone. It's well-kept, comfy, and the Internet is fast and dependable. I'd love to return!

What a breathtaking view that greeted me from the living room, bedroom and rooftop patio! I loved every minute of my two weeks in Casita Colibris. It was comforting knowing the owners lived on the property and the residents of the only other casita were very nice as well. The pictures don't do the layout justice, though. The bedroom is much bigger than it looks online, the bathroom is larger than it looks, and the living room practically has a 360 degree windows for excellent ventalation and light galore. Even with the queen size bed in the living room pulled out, there is plenty of room to lounge, with a window seat, coffee table and desk still accessible. I highly recommend a stay here. Even the hills became a great way to force a daily workout.

I stayed in Casita Colibris for three weeks in July 2007 and had a magical time. The location in the hills overlooking the town is ideal for those favoring tranquility over the hustle and bustle of the town. The apartment is bright and airy with 15 windows, including three picture windows in the bedroom overlooking treetops. The view from the terrace is spectacular! The apartment feels very private, yet it shares a courtyard/entrance with the main house and you will be greeted in the courtyard by two friendly dogs, a cat and a parrot. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as I did.

We just loved staying here. We just had to stop by for one last look at the view from the upstairs roof terrace. It's spectacular. And of course, watching the humming birds at the feeder is much more fun than watching TV!

I can truly say that I've enjoyed every minute that I've spent in this lovely second-floor apartment... it is bright and cheerful, with sunlight streaming in from all four directions, as well as a large skylight. There are pleasant views out of every window. And the bathtub! What a delight: looking out into a tree, with birds hopping among the branches almost every time I bathe... Lucky you, if you are able to come and stay here.
