Good place for a longer stay in Orvieto

Date of Stay: 03/28/12 Review Submitted: 05/04/12

Orvieto is as wonderful place to use as a base for a stay in Umbria. We rented Casa Flavia for 3 weeks and used it to explore parts of Tuscany, Lazio and Umbria. It was nice to have an apt to return to each day where we could prepare meals and relax. Casa Flavia is located beautifully in Orvieto. It's steps away from the Corso Cavour, the main walking street in town. It's filled with shops and restaurants and people strolling. The apt is an easy walk to the Funicular and that was a plus since we parked our car in the large parking lot by the train station and needed to use the funicular daily. The apt is quite comfortable and very clean with a very large bedroom with plenty of closet and storage space. Large double doors that lead out onto a lovely terrace with chairs and table. The bed is a king size bed a little stiff but okay. The kitchen is small but has a modern stove and large fridge. As a previous reviewer mentioned it would have been helpful to have some additional dishes and pans, but we were able to purchase a couple of extra plates and disposable aluminum pan at the market quite reasonably. The living room is smaller than the pictures show - but quite comfortable. Just be aware that there are no English channels on the TV and there is not CD player or radio in the apt. The apt is up a flight of stairs and there are several other apts in the building. The wifi signal is unreliable and best from the outdoor terrace. Having a washing machine was wonderful and we used it often during our stay. The Thursday and Saturday markets were great places to get fresh produce, cheese and salami and even household goods that you will likely need for the apt if you are there for several days. Plan on bringing and buying your own toiletries and paper products. Overall we really enjoyed our 3 weeks at Casa Flavia and would recommend Orvieto for those wishing to see this part of Umbria

At Home in Casa Flavia

My husband and I stayed at Casa Flavia for 6 nights as a part of our honeymoon in Italy. Roberta met us and brought our luggage up to the apartment. The space is a great size for two people and it very comfortable. We especially enjoyed the efficient little kitchen where we made most of our meals and the beautiful patio where we shared those meals. The apartment is in a great location, minutes away from the Duomo, restaurants and many specialty food shops. Orvieto is a delightful place to visit with wonderful food, places to walk, and an old world charm. Roberta was so helpful and kind and that really made our experience wonderful. I would definitely go back to Casa Flavia.

Bella Orvieto

My husband, daughter and I stayed in Casa Flavia for a week in July 2011. It is the perfect hill town to visit after leaving Roma, just a 90 minute train ride from Termini Station. We rented a car from Hertz which is across the street from the Orvieto train station. While in Orvieto we visited many hill towns in Tuscany, and also enjoyed the town of Orvieto and the surrounding areas immensely. Casa Flavia is very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped to cook a full meal, and the outside terrace is the perfect place to enjoy it. There was a wi-fi connection in the master bedroom and terrace area. Roberta is the perfect hostess. Orvieto is enchanting and beautiful. We all thoroughly enjoyed our vacation there, and would visit again.

Casa Flavia in Orvieto is a delightful apartment located in a strategic position directly in the historical center, very close to the main attractions of this "Umbria's jewel"!!! The apartment is clean and well kept and the owner is very kind, always available for any questions and informations you need and always willing to help you during your staying, suggesting places to visit, restaurants, acitivities and much more!! So, I definitely recommend this property for a vacation and I'm sure you'll enjoy it very much!!!

Very nice! The pictures on the internet do not do this property justice, the rooms are bigger than what they appear and there is a large private terrace which has a very nice atmosphere. The apartment was clean and comfortable. The location is quiet and close to many attractions and markets. Roberta, the owner is very nice and accommodating. I would highly recommend this property to someone visiting Orvieto, I felt like it was a home away from home.

Owner response:Thank You Suzie ! I hope You spent good time in Florence ciao Roberta

My husband and I rented Casa Flavia in April and May 2011 and it was the perfect place for us. I can't imagine a better small town than Orvieto to live in and really get to know Italy. We enjoyed the sites, the great restaurants, and the friendly people in this utterly charming town. Casa Flavia is a lovely apartment and the terrace really makes it an incredible place to stay - we enjoyed many meals and glasses of wine on the terrace. Roberta and her family are gracious hosts and made us feel very welcome. We explored Venice, Florence, Assisi, and Rome from this excellent home away from home. Highly recommended!

My girlfriend and I were coming from Rome to Orvieto and this place was a huge welcome. Roberta met us at the funicolare and drove us to the apartment. After getting settled in and tidy, we set out on the quaint little town of Orvieto. Since we had a kitchen, we used it immensly with the great food from the region sold around town. The only downside was that we were there during rainy week, but we made up for it by getting plenty of food and wine and acting like a local. We definitely recommend this place and hope to make it a destination in the future.

Just back from staying in Casa Flavia. This clean, comfortable, well-equipped apartment very soon felt like home. We enjoyed shopping at the little stores and shops within easy walking distance. We spent many pleasant hours on the lovely terrace. It was a perfect base to visit many nearby towns and sights. An easy train ride to many of the other cities including Rome and Florence. We would highly recommend a stay at this apartment. Roberta and her family were very friendly and helpful. We hope to return again real soon.

My sister and I stayed in Orvieto - Casa Flavia for three nights in July. We were celebrating my sister's 60th Birthday. The apartment is fabulous, great location, very clean with lots of light. What a wonderful treat to have a terrace. The shops and shop owners were very nice and the location of the apartment is wonderful. The Farmer's Market on Wednesday and Saturday was fantastic - fresh local produce, meats, cheese, any type of clothing or jewlry with a local atmosphere. Highly recommend and plan to return.

My husband and I spent four wonderful nights at Casa Flavia. Roberta has done a wonderful job fixing up the apartment. The rooms are comfortable, but the best part is the outdoor patio/deck. There's not a lot of green space in Orvieto, so the patio is a treat. It overlooks neighborhood gardens. We were able to eat on the table out there and watch the sunset and the swallows dart around us. Casa Flavia is right off the main drag, Via Corso, but it's a bit down from the tourist center so that it feels more real. We loved the nearby cafe, Cafe del Corso. They had wi-fi and a locale clientele that watched the World Cup games on the flat screen outside.

Casa Flavia

We stayed at Casa Flavia for 10 days recently and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is a delightful apartment, tastefully furnished and well set up for folk who like to buy local produce and eat at home. The terrace was lovely and Casa Flavia was as described, right in the heart of Orvieto, which really is a gorgeous town on the border of Umbria and Lazio. Only one criticism, there was no CD player and after 10 days we were pining for some music. There was a reasonable selection of books which helped compensate for the lack of music. Highly recommended.

We spent 4 weeks in Casa Flavia and each one better than the last as we became accustomed to the town. This Apartment is charming and well furnished. The beds are comfortable and the patio is large and comfortable with a nice territorial view. We used the kitchen a LOT and enjoyed finding produce and wine in small shops close by and walking the 10 min to the larger grocery store occasionally. There is a great small bakery just steps from your front door and many beautiful churches within easy walking distance. The restaurant that is on the left as you exit the street the apt is on is wonderful!! Try the steak with truffle sauce- you will not be sorry. Leonardo, the waiter speaks english and his mom is the cook, everything we had there was fabulous. They have a lizard named Hugo that lives on the wall on the terrace- say hi for us. The shopping is good, I found shoes to die for, scarves and handbags too. We kept a rental car in the lot next to the funicular for 2 weeks and had a blast exploring the countryside near and far. The hosts Roberta and Mauro are incredibly helpful and friendly. They have created a super home to share their town with the world.

Owner response:Many thanks for Your comment, we are honoured to had You among our guests !

We just returned from our 2 week visit to Casa Flavia in Orvieto. Orvieto is a wonderful town and Casa Flavia is the perfect apartment. I was recovering from knee replacement surgery and found this town completely walkable. The owners, Mauro and Roberta, were sweet and attentive and made this apartment an even more delightful place. Mauro took the time to show us around and get us oriented to the town. He even brought his absolutely adorable children (Flavia and Federico) by to meet us. I look forward to returning to Casa Flavia!

Casa Flavia was delightful. We enjoyed the delicious apricot tart that Roberta had made for our arrival. Roberta was very helpful and friendly. The location is perfect; the apartment very clean and pleasant; the terrace was an incredible place for us to eat our lunch each day. Orvieto is our new favorite town in central Italy and Casa Flavia made our stay even better.

Orvieto and Casa Flavia are a duet made in heaven. We enjoyed both so much. Orveito is situated just perfectly in Umbria to take advantage of the hill towns of Tuscany and Umbria and the wonderful history and fantastic views. Casa Flavia is very well appointed and we felt right at home there. We stayed 3 weeks in September 2008. Mauro and Roberta are so nice and just perfect hosts. We couldn't have asked for better friends! We hope we can go back again very soon.

We stayed in this lovely apartment for one week, summer 2008. We used it as a base to take the train to Florence and Rome. Our hosts were most helpful with restaurants, wifi and groceries. We enjoyed meals and relaxation out on the terrace. Highly recommended.

My husband our daughter and grand-daughter stayed for only 2 nights at Casa Flavia and I say 2 nights because we wished we had more time. We loved the apt. It is clean, spacious, the kitchen is great and the terrace is wonderful. Roberta and her husband are incredible and we had everything and more that we needed. We will return some day to stay longer. Orvieto has become our favorite "hill town" now and part of it is because of Casa Flavia. I highly recommend it for anyone.

I stayed at Casa Flavia, with my young son, for two nights (quick vacation up from Rome). We both adored it! The apartment is very light and spacious, nicely equipped, absolutely comfortable, and perfectly situated in Orvieto. We have absolutely no complaints, and when we return to Orvieto next time, I will hope to stay at Casa Flavia again. The owner of Casa Flavia is similarly wonderful—very kind, very professional, and just lovely. All my dealings with her were pleasant and professional. I cannot recommend Casa Flavia highly enough. You will be lucky to stay there!

Our family of four stayed here in April 2008, and it was a highlight of our travels in Italy. The apartment is spacious and airy with a beautiful terrace surrounded by trees and flowers, and visited by neighboring cats which delighted us! The full kitchen is well-stocked for breakfast and has modern appliances. Our host, Mauro, picked us up at the train station and provided a quick history and orientation of the town. Orvieto was a welcome relief after the traffic and crowds of Rome. It is a beautiful little city with a magnificent cathedral and a park and walls surrounding much of the town. The shops offer wonderful ceramics and other products that seemed very reasonably priced. The apartment is also a reasonable price. All in all, our experience with the apartment, the owner, and the town was very positive and it is a place we would like to revisit.

My week in Orvieto and Casa Flavia was the culmination of a one-month visit to Italy. I could not have chosen a better place to stay. The apartment is immaculate, bright and cheerful. The location is perfect and right upstairs from a wonderful bakery where the smell of fresh bread and sweets add to the ambiance of this perfect vacation apartment. The terrace is picture-perfect ~ quiet, roomy, and surrounded by beautiful trees, flowers and other greenery. Orvieto is a town well-worth staying in for at least a week if not more. There are many shops and restaurants, and the Duomo and main piazza are dazzling. The location in Umbria is ideal for day trips to neighboring villages, but Orvieto itself provides all one might want if your desire is to really experience Italy. Saving the best for last, I will tell you that you could not find better hosts than Mauro and Roberta. Dependable, sweet, caring and fun, this young couple has won my heart. We spent time with them exploring town; they were an integral part of making my last week in Italy one that I will never forget. I would highly recommend Casa Flavia as the perfect place to spend a vacation in Italy.

The apartment was spacious and very clean. It's located in a prime area of Orvieto. Nice and easy walking distance to just about anyplace. We rented it from a young couple who were very cordial and friendly. They made sure our stay there was comfortable and gave us a brief history of Orvieto and where to go to see the best sights. We would recommend this apartment to everyone.
