My husband and I loved staying in the condo for a great week. It is REALLY on the beach! The sunsets were spectacular, and the weather perfect. The ceiling fans were just fine and no need for air conditioning at all. The kitchen was well equipped and we ate several meals at home. We stocked up at Safeway on the way from the airport, but did buy some fabulous Mahi Mahi at the local Tamura market. This is a small working class town. Don't come here expecting cute boutiques or fancy restaurants, but do come to enjoy a quiet getaway. We did find a couple of fun local "hangouts", Tacos and More (but stick to the tacos, which were very good, and avoid the "more") and the Sunset Cafe (actually on a military facility, but just show id and walk in-park your car outside the gate on Army St) Lovely open air bar and restaurant right on the beach (sadly, not great food). We were amazed at how uncrowded the beach was-it was almost "private". Even on the busiest day, Saturday, there was tons of open space-a world from the crowds at Waikiki. In fact, the driver of the rental car van said Makaha is where he goes to the beach on his day off-very local atmosphere. But, watch the waves if you bring children-very strong. One shopping highlight-Treasure thrift store a few blocks down the street towards town. Wednesday is 50% off day on tons of clothes. I was wishing I hadn't brought so much. I could have easily equipped myself for a week super cheaply from the store. Bonus, Shelley supplied a wonderful "welcome basket" for us-yum!

This is the place to stay on O'ahu for a true Hawaiian vacation. Everything was just as pictured. Modern and tastefully decorated. The views here are amazing. The valley to the front and the beach to the back. Saw turtles everyday and was lucky enough to spot a few spouting whales in the horizon. Everything is provided for you here, just bring your own groceries. The people of this area are so warm and welcoming. We experienced true aloha spirit in Makaha.

This condo is comfortable and clean, nicely appointed. The view is amazing, great place to view sunsets. We have seen whales everyday (bring binoculars). Everything you need is here in the condo and items are good quality. Commute to Honolulu/Waikiki is about 45 mins. but longer during rush hour. We have found the locals to be very friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing place away from the tourist traps you will like this place. The winter surf makes snorkeling a bit difficult here, but it is a good place to use a boogie board (which are provided at condo). The beach is beautiful and uncrowded. I would be glad to recommend this condo to my friends and family.

We stayed at this unit for one week and loved every single minute of it! The location was away from all the touristy spots, which is exactly what we were looking for. The condo was clean and kitted out with everything we needed, though showed a bit of wear and tear. A lick of paint here and there, and better cleaning gear (mop and vacuum were old and hard to use) were the only recommendations we'd make to the owner (and thanks, Shelley, for tending to the garbage disposal issue so quickly: fixed within hours of reporting a problem!) The security guards were super friendly and helpful, other guests and owners / renters were also kind and ready to lend a hand, and we never once felt unsafe. True, you do have to ride through some rough areas to get there, but nothing to worry about. The guards would also make walks through the grounds and we'd often see them with flashlights at night. Please do be advised, though, that all beaches in Hawaii are PUBLIC, so if you take evening walks you'll run into folks sleeping on the beach. We tended to stock up on groceries in near-by Ko Olina or Kapolei (Target, Costco, Safeway and the FANTASTIC "Down to Earth" health food and veggie grocery store which had an amazing hot food and salad buffet). We stopped into some of the more local shops but really wouldn't recommend them. The quality of the vegetables was pretty horrible, and they tended to be quite hectic. But back unit itself: the view from the bedroom and adjoining balcony was incredible and EXACTLY how it looks in the pictures. No, it was better. The sun was always shining, and while other parts of the island were getting rain, we were basking in the sun. We stayed in December which is traditionally the rainy season, but not in Makaha! One word of warning: the waves are deadly during this time of year, so stick close to the shore, and leave the water if you see the waves picking up. We learned a lesson on day 2 when pummeled by a 9 foot wave when on a boogie board. We could really go on and on about the unit and our little piece of paradise but we're running out of space. In conclusion, if we ever return to Oahu (and we hope to SOON), this is the only place we'd stay. Great value for the money. I only wish we'd stayed longer! I cannot express my delight with this condo and the beach that it is located on. WE have been to Hawaii many times and have been to all the island and without a doubt this is the best beach we have ever been on. The condo is simple and wonderful. We were not interested in spending time in Honolulu, but wanted to hike to the North Shore and spend time in other parts of the island. The drive from the airport is sometime long and slow, but the reward to the sunsets and the sealife that includes sea turtles everyday is a true wonder. Shelley is the best person to work with and we appreciated her very much. Jim & Joanne - Bellingham, WA

Just arrived home from spending a most enjoyable week celebrating our 40th anniversary. The condo location is exactly perfect to experience the real Hawaii. The beach and condo are exactly as they appear on the site. The condo is well equipped with 2 TV's, wi-fi, and all the comforts of home. If you want the night life and fancy restraunt's stay in Honolulu. We liked the idea of escaping that sceen when we'd had enough and returning to the codo. There are lots of fast food chains and local eating spots to choose from and much more reasonably priced than in Honolulu. The condo can sleep 4 but is ideal for 2. When ever we return would not hesitate to stay here again.

Pros: Beautiful beach right outside your door, the views from the Lanai, the supplied beach gear, the sunsets, the decor of the unit, price Cons: Not a great neighborhood, not close to any restaurants or attractions, had to drive a long way for most things, cockroaches in the sink and shower (almost daily) Just the facts. Still love Hawaii but Oahu is not the Island for us......

This place was perfect! Absolutely gorgeous! Looking out the front door you have great views of mountains and looking out on the lanai you have the draw dropping view of the ocean. The beach is private and beautiful. You get great sunsets here unlike at Waikiki. It is further away from the city but the views the privacy are worth it! There are restaurants and a Target about ten minutes away so you are not too far away from anything. Other reviews made this sound to far from anything but that is not the case. There was a Starbucks down the street and that was perfect for me. The condo is beautiful and perfect for a couple. Everything was updated and furnished nice. It was clean and well maintained. We are from Florida and we were concerned when there was no AC but you get such a great breeze we slept with the windows open every night and went to sleep with the waves crashing as they hit the beach. I got engaged on the lanai under the stars with the waves crashing and it was romantic and perfect. I plan to come back for our honeymoon. I would not want to go anywhere else. Oahu is the perfect island you got the city the country, the North shore, so much to do. We did visit Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island but we are definitely glad we stayed here at this condo. We will be back!

The owners of this condo have done a wonderful job of renovating and presenting a very affordable and lovely get away on a spectacular stretch of beach. The condo is clean and fully ready for occupancy so as to enjoy the beautiful sunsets and Hawaiian waters. Although outfitted for four people, I would not plan for four adults. This condo works well for two adults with 1 or 2 children. Security is present at nights and the condo is gated but the beach is open to public access so not exclusive. The Makaha area is limited to fast food restaurants but has a few good super markets in the area and a Costco at the entrance to the coastal highway heading out to the condo. But the whole idea of the condo is to cook most of your own meals anyway! Starbucks is a short two miles away. This place would be awesome for a staging area during prime surfing conditions. Friendly people, and a surf shop almost across the street. Our only issue was with the number of remodels and the noise associated with the electrical equipment but I guess this was just our bad timing. Do give the Paridise Cove Luau a try and be sure to include a day trip to the North Shore for some great variety and restaurants. Snorkling right out front is best in the early morning if surf permits. and it is fun to watch the locals fish from the beach. Shelley was easy to work with and very friendly. I could see ourselves returning someday....

This place is absolutely perfect for a honeymoon/vacation getaway! If you want to get away from all of the resorts and crowded beaches, this is the place to be. It comes fully equipped with anything you would need to hit the beach, which is where we spent much of our time. The sunsets are absolutely amazing to watch from the lanai, we even saw humpback whales on numerous occassions during our visit. The condo is exactly what you see in the pictures. The neighbors are very friendly, and we liked the fact that it was a gated community as well. The owner was very easy to work with in setting up the details with us. There are stores conveniently located nearby to buy groceries. If you do want to get closer to the action, its about a 45 minute drive to Honolulu/Pearl Harbor/Waikiki, which was not bad at all! (It takes longer to travel a shorter distance in Chicago traffic.) We really enjoyed the small restaurants of the Northeast side of the island too. All-in-all, Oahu is a beautiful place, but we always enjoyed going back to our "home" location. We will definitely rent this condo again!

This condo was perfect for anyone who wants a simple, quiet visit to Oahu. It has everything you need. There was a goody basket upon arrival with information about fun activities nearby and local treats. The condo was clean and neatly put together. The view out the lanai was breathtaking and my husband and I never saw more than 20 people on the beach outside. It has all the beach supplies you would ever want including boogie boards, snorkeling gear, towels, chairs and lots more. Unfortunately, my husband and I were first time visitors to the island, and didn't realize that the highway that connects the west coast to the north coast is not complete. We found that we were doing a lot of traveling to see all of the "sights" because we had to drive into Honolulu to get anywhere else. However, a lot of fishing excursions and ocean type adventures did launch not too far away. We both loved this condo so much that we decided on any return to Oahu we would stay here as well and just enjoy the beautiful, clean beach and forget about all the touristy sites.

For the last four years I have continued to enjoy my stay here. It is truly a vacation that offers uncrowded beaches, a clean and comfortable unit, and close proximity to many activities the island has to offer. Planning and booking is trouble free and the owner is accessible and committed to great customer service. Highly recommend the snorkel cruise out of Ko'Olina Marina on the Ko'Oli Oli catamaran.

This was our second stay at the condo in Makaha. I would recommend it highly. No problems at all. This trip we saw many whales, dolphins and turtles from our lanai. I can't imagine a more beautiful, relaxing atmosphere. The nightly conch shell blowing at sunset is wonderful. You feel a part of the cabana family as soon as you arrive. We spent 6 nights in this condo. It is a perfect place for everyone who wants to relax and get away from the city chaos. The condo itself is perfectly equipped and you really don't need to buy anything except the food and water. The beach view is fabulous and ocean is beautiful but not very calm. Security and other condo personal is very friendly too. We also went for a short evening walk and we didn't meet any unfriendly people. For those who are looking for perfect clean and calm water, there is a beautiful beach down in Waianae (3 miles) Pokai Bay. For a surfers and surf fans there is a fantastic beach on the nord (8 miles) Yokohama beach at Yokohama Bay. We strongly recommend to rent a car cause this is not exactly a heart of civilisation:) When you have a car you can easily get everywhere 'cause O'ahu isn't really big that much.

Our impression of this condo was outstanding. The beach was beautiful, clean and the waves sounds were nice which lulled us to sleep each nigh. We were able to see sea turtles several mornings. Watching these turtles was something we had hoped would occur. We have stayed on the North/East coast before and it was enjoyable but this side had a lot of shopes and the road was four lane to a few feet before the turn off to the condo. This made access to places were much more convenient. The condo itself was very clean and had everything one would need. We did not have to supply anything but our food. There was snacks, snorklning equipment, boogie boards, beach chairs, and ice chest. All we had to do was enjoy ourselves. Thanks, Lee and Peggy

We stayed at the condo 9/21/09-10/5/09. The condo is very clean & is nicely updated-paint, cabinets, furnishings, tile, artwork are all very nice. The beach, ocean, sunset views from the lanai are wonderful. However - tent cities line the coastline for miles in each direction; several nearby stores had security guards posted inside. The nearest clean, decent restaurants (we did not check out the military cafeteria suggested) are 11 miles away and the nearest affordable clean, decent ones are 14 miles away. No air conditioning - with temps 88-90 every day and 78-80 at night, the condo was always hot. There were other issues with the constant traffic/siren noise and full-time tenants' lifestyles. We're sorry to report these negatives but want to be honet. Had we known of them we would not have rented.

This is our last night at this gorgeous condo. We watched the sunset every night from our lanai and went to sleep listening to the waves crashing on the beach right outside our window. There is not much better than tanning on the beach, steps outside your condo, swimming in ocean to cool off, then walking back upstairs to take a shower to get all clean and relaxed. Being on the leeward side of the island, even when it was overcast and raining on the North Shore and in Honolulu, it was sunny and clear at our condo; we barely had a reason to leave. We had an issue with the neighbors downstairs playing their music too loud but when we emailed Shelley (condo owner) about it, she called us within 5 minutes appalled. She was here 5 minutes after that with security, found out where it was coming from and said she'd speak with security and the condo manager to get it taken care of - 15 minutes the music was down and we barely heard anything the rest of our stay. We didn't even get service like that when we stayed at Turtle Bay. The condo is a bit far from everything else on the island - only one main road to and from the condo - about 1 hr to Waikiki/airport, 1 hr to the North Shore (no you really can't drive around the NW tip; the maps lie), or 1.5 hrs to the Windward side. But the condo was a great base even so - anywhere you stay would be about the same except here you get your own, almost totally empty beach ourside (and down elevator from) your door, and a beautiful condo. Shelley's provided so many nice amenities that made it feel like home and let you focus on relaxing. Mahalo & Aloha!

Shelley's listing descriptions and pictures are completely accurate. She has created a very nice sanctuary on a beautiful beach. It is obvious that she cares. The condo is clean, comfortable and well equipped. Two things make it less than perfect. When it is very hot at night the ceiling fans are inadequate and the lack of air conditioning is regrettable. Also, the road noise, especially from emergency vehicles, is surprisingly loud.

Thank you for sharing your condo unit with us! It was just what we needed - cozy, well kept, beautiful space that had a million dollar view of the private, pristine beach! We really enjoyed having breakfast on the lanai and swimming in the gorgeous waters. The neighbours were so friendly and made us feel right at home. We spent 4 days in Waikiki and were so glad to get away to Makaha for the remainder of our trip. I really couldn't have asked for more and can't wait to go back.

This condo was exactly what we wanted: beautiful and comfortable on the inside, and smack dab on an uncrowded gorgeous beach. I type this (on the wireless internet) while sitting in the living/dining room, looking past the bedroom area to the wide lanai and the coconut trees and ocean beyond. Waves break against the uncrowded sandy beach and fill the condo with the sweet sounds of the surf. We loved sleeping to the sound of the waves and waking up to a view of the ocean without even leaving our bed! We swam/snorkeled with the fish and sea turtles (honu)! We explored the rocky outcropping framing the south end of the sandy beach, and watched the little crabs dash about. We saw a whale breach! We ate in most meals using the well-equiped kitchen, and being reluctant to leave our paradise when our own lanai had seats better than any restaurant view. But most of all, we "relaxed on the beach", either from inside our condo or under the sun on the sand itself. . . both offered gorgeous views and a feeling of being right on the beach. Mahalo, Shelley, for a wonderful vacation!

Clean, updated and ohhh so close to the beach! Shelley thank you for your assistance in getting us there and making the 2 weeks a dream come true. Imagine, waking up in the morning, sipping your coffee and watching the whales and dolphins. The peace of mind we had knowing we stayed in a building that was safe and clean made our visit that much more pleasant. The uncrowded beach, what more can you ask for...oh yeah some Mai Tais on an uncrowded beach! I highly recommend this condo and would definitly return. ALOHA for now! Denis and Darlene

My husband and I booked our vacation rental on line and hoped that the actual facility would be somewhat close to what was advertised and pictured on the website. We were very pleasantly surprised to find that it was modern, clean, well decorated and well appointed and in a quieter area on Oahu. I ran most days along the main stretch of road outside our condo, both up to the beaches north of the condo and south to Nanakuli and felt totally safe. We shopped in the local markets, such as Tamura and The Waienai store and Sack n Save and were very pleased with what the different stores offered. We did not feel it necessary to go out of the area to shop for groceries. We actually drove around the island over the period of time that we were there and found all areas accessible by car and a comfortable day trip away. We were very pleased with the lovely beach at the condo and the other lovely beaches up the street. All in all, we had a wonderful time and came away thinking this was a place we would come to again. Shelley was always just a phone call away but we found that she had left lots of information to help us get settled in during our stay. We highly recommend this condo. What a wonderful vacation/honeymoon! The condo was beautiful, clean, and everything Shelley described! We had everything thing we needed right there, snorkel and fins, beach chairs(same ones featured in the picture), boogie board, etc! What's great about the location is that you are outside of hustle and bustle of Honolulu where you can truly relax. If you want to venture into the city it's only a 30-40 min drive mostly along the beach with great scenery. The cove & beach were absolutely breath taking! Sitting on the lanai in the morning with coffee watching the whales in the distance was a favorite. Also, swimming with the turtles right outside the condo on the beach was amazing. Another activity close to the condo was a 4-5miles hike/walk to the western most point of the island. There were great views along the way and a Monk Seal waiting for us at the point! We highly recommend staying here and hope to be back next year! Thanks Shelley!

We also loved the seclusion of this beach, away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the island. What a treat to hear the waves crashing on the beach at night ..... and to have ones sundowners on the lanai watching those spectacular sunsets. Have recommended this property to friends.

Our first, and hopefully not our last, trip to Hawaii. We didn't know what surprises lay ahead for my wife and I. The only surprises where nice ones ! The description of everything, was exactly as explained by Shelley ! The property was extremely clean, the people respectful and polite, and we felt safe and secure in our Condo, especially at night. Shelley suggested a few places to shop, eat or just visit. We visited each of them. No disappointments. Having been raised on a farm, I especially enjoyed the roosters crowing to greet the morning. They fit into the rural village setting, quiet and uncrowded. My wife enjoyed my home cooked breakfast's prepared in our well stocked kitchen and served out on our private Lanai! As we ate and greeted the new day, we watched the endless display of marine wildlife (turtles, whales, seals, and more !) We would recommend this property for anyone looking to slow down and really enjoy the beauty of the rising sun , over the mountains out the front door ,and the spectacular setting sunsets over the Pacific out the back door.(Lanai) Just a little note you might find amusing. Our last 2 nights on the Island where spent up on the North Shore. We stayed in a much more expensive and "high end" resort. The weather not as nice ,the beaches a little more crowded......we missed our cozy little Condo and wished we were back at Makaha!! Mahalo to all Vince & Carol

This unit is a superb place to unwind and relax. Who could argue with everything but your groceries when you walk through the door ? (however, there was a delightful goodie basket awaiting). Clean, upgraded, well supplied with toys for the beach, a great comfortable condo. We were here for two weeks and can't wait to return. While it is a bit out of the way we must confess this is exactly what we wanted peace & quiet. We drove up to the North Shore one day for a lesiurely drive stopping along the way and really didn't mind the short haul commute to Honolulu- we went in during 'off peak hours'. Loved dropping in to Kapolei (about 20 minutes away) for a Starbucks when we needed one, or groceries at the nice Safeway store there. The sounds of nature were wonderful and we were blessed to see many sea life about from the comfort of our lanai. It truly is a small piece of paradise and difficult to leave when the time came.

We found the Condo to be very comfortable and located on a great beach. The Condo is upgraded and well equipped with everything you need, even in a winter storm ( a 2 day experience) without power. Located 45 minutes from Honolulu and Waikiki, with several great stretches of beach and activities in between. The Condo is situated where even with high winds blowing accross the island, the mountain range east and and south of the beach shield most of the wind making for a great day on the beach regardless. Somewhat remote in its location, you'll have no problem relaxing or enjoying out of the way adventure. I recommend this Condo and the beach to anyone looking to get away from the hectic metro-life. We will be returning to stay again.

My husband and I recently stayed here while on a one-year anniversary get-away. It was perfect! One couldn't ask for a more tranquil place. The condo itself is adorable, very comfy, with everything you could possibly need during your stay. Falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean with your bedroom lanai doors open is the best! The beach is *never* crowded. And the locals are so friendly. The only downside at all to this condo is that it requires a bit of a drive to get anywhere. But it was completely worth it to have this heavenly experience! I would recommend this place to everyone!

We had a wonderful time at this very tastefully decorated condo, supplied with everything you could need. It is ideal for one couple. You could watch and hear the waves crashing just off your lanai. Almost daily we saw turtles just off the beach. This area has a lot of local flavor and is worlds away from the commercialism of Waikiki.

Stayed here in Sept 2007. Wonderful condo, just remodelled and it is just great. Very clean and everthing you need for a vacation. Fabulous lanai where we ate all our meals and watched the sunsets. The beach is perfect. It was great for swimming and snorkeling. We loved seeing the turtles swim by everyday. Fabulous place to stay and we will defiantly come back to your condo. The description of the place and photos on the website was exactly what we got.
