My family just completed a stay at this home over the Thanksgiving week. The home was very clean and easily slept our 6 adults and 1 child. There are so many cute nooks and crannies in the house that we were able to get privacy when we needed it, but also get together in the large family room and beautiful deck to share "family time". The property is beautiful and peaceful as it sits on a quiet street and backs up to an open space. The 180 degree views of La Jolla from the deck are amazing. And we were less than a mile from La Jolla village where we enjoyed shopping, dining (Alfonso's for Mexican food), and sea lion watching! A 5 minute drive took us to La Jolla Shores as well where we did a long stroll on the beach. I would definitely recommend this home for a large family that wants a relaxing place to stay with great access to all of La Jolla, and for that matter, San Diego as well.

When we walked in the front door and looked out over downtown LaJolla and the Pacific Ocean we knew we had found something truly special. You are above the crowd, backing up to a 43 acre wildlife preserve and yet you get in your car and you're at Jose's in 2 or 3 minutes- perfect. This house has lots of natural light and huge views from almost every room. The rooms are large and the furniture is very comfortable, we fit right in. The exceptionally large deck has the best view of all and is perfect BBQing and just hanging out. We kept staying- planned for a month and stayed 10 weeks- and staying. I own 2 VRBO homes on the beach in Florida, but this felt like California the way it still should be. We recommend it highly.

As the description says, this home is not for everyone, but I thought it was fantastic. The home is true to its description and photographs. I stayed there for just over a week with my family. Not only was the location great for getting to activities all over San Diego County, but was also a beautiful place to rest and relax, as well. This was my first time staying in a rental property but for a stay of more than a few days I will choose a place like this over a hotel any day. The house was adequately supplied with all the things we needed during our stay. The property manager lives 1 house away and was very helpful and available for anything. The only thing that was in the listing but not actually in the house was a computer. The house does have wi-fi, but not an actual computer (or a printer). Why you would want to stay here: 1 - love architecture/mid-century modern 2 - love La Jolla 3 - love the idea of relaxing on a deck and watching the sunset 4 - love the idea of having your "home base" on vacation in a quiet residential area Why you wouldn't want to stay here: 1 - want a hot tub, or at least a whirlpool bath. There is only one bathtub in the house (+3 showers), and it is just a plain tub 2 - Can't stand the quirks of an older house 3 - Need space to park a lot of cars. As mentioned in a previous review, the garage is half-full of items and only has room for one car. With difficulty you can park another car in the driveway and one more next to house, but you may end up spending a lot of time moving the cars around. No street parking; the house is in the hills and the roads are narrow. Already my family is asking when we can go back to "the tree house".

Our group was very disappointed in the property. It is in a beautiful location and could be a good rental if brought up to cleaner standards. House was not properly cleaned and tableware silverware service was lacking enough pieces for a group. One of the bedrooms has the washer and dryer located in it and the dryer while we were there was illegally vented into the room. Also, parking is limited and the double garage was only able to fit in one car as owner's collection of wood, garbage cans, talble, etc. took up most of the space. The electricity in an area of the downstairs went out one night, and unable to locate the circuit breaker. When agent came to help, the door to breaker box was locked. Sorry, I cannot recommend the property at this time. As of yet, we have not received out deposit back from our last week in December 2010 stay.
Owner response:Dear Reader We are a new home to the Vacation Rental Market. I live across the street and manage the property for the owner. The day the people moved in we had one of the biggest storms of the year and the circuit breaker went out in that one room when they plug a portable heater in. So the downstairs plug did not work till the next day when we found the circuit breaker box,and we got more silverware for them also. It was only one room downstairs and yes there is a bedroom with a seperate bath and a laundry area in it. This was an old remodel . So its a bedroom a full bath and it also has a washer and a dryer in that bedroom. There is also a TV room a Family room with a bar and an office area of the master bedroom. Everything is made out of wood and its a home that has a lot of love in it. I hope you can see that one rotten apple does not spoil everthing.. There were more people than the contract stated staying in the property. I was never told of the house being not cleaned properly or I would have had the maids come in and clean again. I really think that the rain 5 days out of 7 had more to do with this than the home itself. We have had 6 parties stay in the home and like it very much... Its an older home with amazing views and across from a rugged 42 acre park which I walked the gentleman who wrote this response up to and never was any of this mention during our walk to the La Jolla Natural Parks view point bench, where we all look at the view and chatted for a while. If you like classic older homes with amazing views in a really quite area with no drive through traffic you will like this home. Cheers
